I had 2 requests.
I purchased my home about 3
years ago. It has 2 septic systems,
one for each end of the house. I
did not know the location of the systems, and wanted to locate the tanks
in order to have them serviced and determine the condition of both
systems.
I was converting a 1/2 bath
into a full bath, and needed plumbing roughed in. I needed to flip the location of the
existing toilet and sink and add a shower.
The existing bath is on a slab, and required cutting the concrete
floor to rough in the plumbing, and slope the concrete floor in
preparation for adding a shower drain.
At the same time, I wanted to replace the existing water heater that
supplied this and an adjacent bath with a new hot water unit. The existing 1/2 bath is 4' x 5' and
stealing space from a closet the new bath is only 4' x 8', adding only the
space for a 3' x 4' shower.
I called to schedule
an appointment, and discussed my needs with a plumbing supervisor who wanted to
send a plumber who would be in the area stop by to look things over before
scheduling the service call. In preparation
for the call, I stripped the existing walls down to the studs to make the
access to the existing plumbing easy.
The first plumber
showed up to look at the project as scheduled, and recommended scoping the
drains with a camera to determine where the septic cleanouts were located, and
to inspect the existing drain line in the 1/2 bath to quote the rough in for
the new bath. I provided a set of
dimensioned drawing of the existing bath, a detailed drawing of the new bath
with measurements, all the fixture specification sheets to eliminate any
guesswork as I had already purchased them.
The supervisor called to discuss the project, and I sent a PDF of all
the documentation to him directly per our conversation, and we scheduled an
appointment to have the camera inspection and septic location preformed. The plumber who was to show up did not call
until 1/2 day after he was to have shown up to reschedule.
He showed up for the second appointment on time, and scoped the lines in the 1/2 bath, and located
the septic cleanout for the septic system on that side of the house. In what seemed to me at the time to be about
an hour. At that point, he told me he had another appointment scheduled, and would have to come back to locate the
2nd septic system, and would call me to schedule it.
He didn't call back for several days, so I called him. He apologized. Said that he had broken the scope, that he'd told his boss someone else had broken it, and it needed to be repaired, and would call to reschedule as soon as it was repaired. Weeks later,
I called the office thinking they had forgotten about me. They said the unit was out for repaire, and they would call to reschedule as soon as it was back. I also discussed the quote for the bathroom rough-in with the supervisor responsible
for preparing the quote. He told me I should have it shortly.
I received the quote a few days later. They never called back to finish the 1st job. I did receive a bill dated two months after the first service call for $427.13. The bill detail was for $307.13 was travel and "truck charge" and $100 for "sewer camera."
The Budgetary Quote to rough in the plumbing and slope the concrete floor was $6,712.00. The quote did not include a water heater any or carpentry, but they included setting the fixtures, which couldn't be done without the electric, walls, or tile work.
At no point did I receive a call saying they did not intend to provide a new hot water heater, and they never called back to finish the job of locating the other septic system.
I had used them right after moving into the house, to re-route the lines in the laundry room, install a new water softener, run new water lines for laundry hookups, and install both a laundry tub and replace the old kitchen sink and lines. They'd preformed that work, which also involved cutting the concrete floor well. They were in and out in one day and I was very satisfied.
But after this disappointment, I won't be using or recommending them again.
