Sloane Moving & Storage

It was excellent. They picked up packed up, deliver and unloaded everything as they have told what they have to do.

We made the mistake of allowing Sloane Moving and Storage to move us and to pack about 10% of our belongings that we had not packed. Sloane totally defies the principle of conservation of matter! What had been 10% of our belongings was so padded by Sloane's movers that it became 80% of our boxes! Sloane's slogan "We baby your furniture" actually means that they place one of two small items into a 4 ft by 4 ft loosely taped, flimsy carton, and then shove dozens and dozens and dozens of sheets of wrapping paper in order to fill their huge, unwieldy and badly-smelling carton. Needless to say, because of Sloane's packing, it was very difficult to find our belongings! Since we have to pay for trash removal in our new home, it took nearly 3 months to dole out all of their unnecessary, voluminous wads of wrapping paper into our weekly trash without incurring charges for bulk pick-ups. For some bizarre reason, Sloane packed us by combining dirty items such as toilet plungers or trash cans full of garbage (obviously not meant to be packed) with clean clothing. We had to wash or dry-clean every single article of clothing. In their defense, we thought they were friendly, and we didn't blame them for their truck breaking down on the turnpike with a flat tire. There was very little damage to the furniture and our belongings. What did annoy us was that the morning after our move, we got a call from the man in charge of the move telling us that the owner wanted an additional $350 from us since he made a mistake in his calculations. We found this demand for more money the day after the move completely unprofessional. Sloane made everything more difficult, and we would advise people to avoid using them. At the very least, if you do use them, then make sure you pack all of your belongings yourself, and don't pay them to pack your stuff for you.

My family used Sloane for a local move this past weekend. I can't comment on the price because we were overwhelmed by the process of selling one house and buying another, so we didn't shop around. Our experience, though, on moving day was very positive. The crew of four guys was friendly and hardworking. Most of them had worked for the company for more than 10 years and were very skilled. Items that we had struggled to get into the house were no problem for them on the way out. I was pleased that the guys had good communication skills, which is actually unusual in contractors; they made sure they understood what I wanted and they did it! I really feel that the $1000 I paid them was money well spent.
I should mention that my wife and I packed our own boxes. The last time we used movers (a different company) my employer was paying for it and we had the movers do the packing. That was kind of a bad experience, but now I believe that if you really care about something, you should pack it yourself.

Updated: I initially requested an antique mirror to be wrapped and moved but it was left behind so I had to wrap the mirror and carry it myself. They did offer to schedule a return to the property and wrap up the mirror but I had already taken care of that. It was an inconvenience at the time so that's why I've made an adjustment to the grade; however, they were tilling to accommodate the situation but they did overall do a good job. The amount of the job was also $100 less than what was quoted.

This is our second time using Sloane Moving in the last five years. Our experiences have been perfect both times! Friendly staff, reasonable prices, and care to not damaging anything are just a few of the accolades that they have earned! I hope to never have to move again but if I do there's only one company I would call!

The three men were there on time, packaged furniture and moved furniture and boxes into truck in two hours.

On the first contact, it was very positive. The man was very eager to accommodate and very courteous I felt important. The timing was very bad and the weather was against us. I had to be move within the week. He said that if any of his guys will finish early, he will call me and they would move me. He followed through and a couple of days went by and he called telling me he has a crew ready. They came out and they did it. The price was very fair. They were great. They were fast, strong, had a good attitude, and were really a team. They were like a finely tuned machine. They had a great attitude and made it look so easy. I would recommend them to anyone.

Everythinng went great. First time for us dealing with movers and it went real smooth

Went great as always. I used Sloane to move into my house when I first came to Glenside. That move was great and this one was even easier. Used their packing service before the move for my mother-in-law. Was great, as nothing broke when like I pack.  I use them for any moving needs I can't handle, and recommend them often.  I've never had anybody come back and complain about them. Always a fair price and polite service.

The crew showed up early and took care of getting the heavy furniture delivered to the final destination.  There was one minor scratch on the armoire that I noticed later, but overall I was satisfied with the work.

I got the impression that they were going to do the two hours and hope it would take longer. They said the two hours would start when they left the facility. That is when I asked for my money back.

When David called to remind me that i was to meet him 10 minutes ago for the estimate, his tone was patient and understanding.  On my end, I am in a service business and I was embarrassed.  When I met him at my home, he put me at ease.  He was calling to confirm, and was making sure that someone was on the way.  He was professional during a walk through of what was to be moved and what was to be left, eyeing up the turns down the tight center stairway and the tonage of materials to be moved by hand that took years to accumulate.   He gave an estimate that was based on time and manpower, and was very clear that with all that was left to be packed, he did not think I would be fully ready.
He was right.  With my children focused on schoolwork, projects and grades, my wife focused on her first semester of graduate school after 30 years away from math and college graduation, and me trying to run my roofing business after a super storm, there was not enough hours to be ready.  I was determined to have Christmas in my new home and to do what I had to do.
On moving day, two crews with a total of 5 men arrived and introduced themselves.  My daughter was rushing to finish packing her room before a 10 AM work start, and everyone else was in school for the day.  I did not know there were only 5 men until 11:45 AM when everything that was going on day 1 was in the truck and the doors were closed.  The energy that each man showed throughout the morning was amazing.  They were aware I was trying to control costs and get the maximum moved and were moving everything large or boxes that could be stacked. They did so much more.  They moved full dressers and emptied dishes from cabinets that were being moved.  They set up a line and moved everything that was ready from the basement which was probably close to 100 boxes, with a lot of them full of books.  They worked as individuals always aware of what each of the others was moving and someone was always there to grab the other side when needed.  My daughter finally left after texting her mother how cute the guys were and she would rather stay and move all day.  She could not believe there were only 5 of them either.
After a seperation of maybe 25 minutes while they got lunch, the unpacking started on the other end.  My wife's stair master was destined for the basement where it will get back to full use.  The turn was impossible, but Jeff heard the importance of getting it to a usable place, when my wife works out, she is happy.   When my wife is happy, I'm happy.   There was no way it was going down, even with the sidebars removed, and I said , "Let's just put it in the garage for now.   Jeff said, "let me try one more thing" and finally had to literally half disassemble the unit and reconstruct it after moving down the stairs.  I could tell that taking this apart and putting it back together was not fun for him, but he just took it on as something that needed to get done.
At some point, I think each of the 5 men asked me if there was something else I needed moved, asked me to look through the rooms and we shuffled family room to living room, etc..  In the end, they totalled up the hours times the men and a couple of wardrobes, and the bill was less than expected and easy to pay with a little for the men.  I feel comfortable boxing up the rest and just calling them for a 2 men half-day finish.
There were no slackers on this five man crew and I feel I got more than my moneys worth.

while the service was good I will not use this company in the future on princlpal. It was left to the mover at the end when I was writing the check to inform me of the fuel fee, This was never mentioned when I initially called to book the job. I've dealt with two other movers in the past and was never charged a fuel fee nor were there ever any extra charges that I was unaware of after I booked the job.

This is the 2nd time we've used Sloane. They are prompt, attentive, careful, and respectful of our home and our furnishings. I gladly recommend them to anyone considering a household move.

They were outstanding.   They first came and made a bid on the move and their price was exceedingly fair.  When the men came out they were outstanding professionals.  They were exceedingly careful with our belongings and you could tell that they took pride in their work.  They would move huge items that barely fit through the doors and they were always careful with their clearances.  They took things apart when necessary and then put them together exactly right.  Moreover they were always offering to help more and when we got to the new place there were several times when we would move a piece of furniture one place and then decide it should go another- and they were always happy to oblige.   In the end their services cost exactly as they had estimated.   I strongly recommend them as the best movers I have ever worked with.

Thanks to the guys for keeping my furniture safe. Pat and Bill were courteous and accommodating. They made sure I was satisfied before they left. Even when you call them on the telephone, they were very professional.

Our closing date kept changing and I had to wait until we actually closed to hire a mover. It was getting closer and closer to the end of the month so I was getting nervous. I called Sloane and two days later they were able to move me, saving me the stress of having to move on the last day of the month.
The price quoted was exactly in the range of what it ended up to be. The only surprise was the gas surcharge of $50- but since we weren't in the immediate area, I can understand.
The guys were extremely professional and responsive- which was important since my husband was at work all day and I was handling the whole move basically by myself.
The guys loaded up two trucks from our storage unit very quickly, helping us find the issues from the previous moving company that moved us across country.  Paying by the hour you always worry, but I didn't have to with these guys. 
We were moving into a new home so we asked the guys to be extra careful not to ding anything and cover the hardwood floors and again they were very responsive. 
They made it a less stressful day than I've experienced in a while. Thank you!

Easiest move ever. They brought 4 guys who were all great hard working packers and movers. Nothing got broken and it went as smoothly as a big move could. We had a great experience and would use them again.

They were fast, professional and reasonably priced.

They came when they said they woudl and comapleted the job in just under 2 hours.  They were very professional from the inception of our phone calls through the actual completion of the job.

My family has been using Sloane for every move but this was the first time I used them for my personal move.  The two movers were extremely professional and courteous.  They did a phenominal job and didn't damage anything during the move.  They worked fairly quickly (no breaks except for a quick lunch during an 8 hour move) and were quite reasonably priced.  I would definitely recommend Sloane.
