CUSTOMER SERVICE AT IT'S BEST!!!! Howell Craft installed (perfectly) a wood stove for us in 2014. After 2 1/2 years of use, it began to operate less efficiently due to normal use and needing a good cleaning. I contacted them on a Thursday during the coldest spell of the winter, and the freindly lady who answered the phone assured me that I'd hear back with a service date asap. They called the next day, and their tech Dan came out on SUNDAY !!! Who does that in this day and age??? These guys are the best!!! Very knowledgeable, friendly, and honest!! Don't bother checking elsewhere!!! Howell Craft has my business forever!!!

Mr. Howell was prompt in returning my calls and came to the house to give me an estimate.  When we decided to go with Howell Craft, they came to the house at the scheduled time, did the work and cleaned up well.  We had a few small issues a week or so later and Mr. Howell sent the guys out again to take care of it.  We have not had any issues with the unit since and have enjoyed it immensely.

I really wasn't happy with the installation. I should have been told somethings about the fireplace and wasn't. So I wasn't happy with them at all. I wouldn't reuse them. I was referred to him by the contractor. The fireplace is not at all insulated. The addition is a one-story addition above a crawl space. So where you have to take out the ash is exposed to the outdoors. That's a metal door. There is no insulation on the door, there is no insulation inside the tunnel that you have to pull the ashes out from. Every fall or every time I take the ashes out, which is annually, I have to stuff insulation back up in that tunnel between where the outside door and the floor of the fireplace on the inside. It's quite a job and my arms really aren't long enough. It does make the room colder. When I first came back in here, when the weather got colder there was condensation on the outside of the glass doors on the fireplace. I've only had one fireplace installed. So I have nothing to compare the price with. The damper, you can either just work that manually or there can be a thing that protrudes a little bit on the outside of the fireplace on the inside of the room, where all you have to do is twist that thing that sticks out. That works a screw rod that goes back through and lowers or increases the damper. I have to use pliers to get that thing screwed and unscrewed. The problem clearly is that the screw rod doesn't clear the hollowed out part of the concrete that it has to go through. So the reason it's hard to manipulate is that the screw has to grind its way through parts of concrete. So it's an abysmal job.

We've been very pleased with Howell Craft Inc. They were very prompt. They did a really good job. They explained all of my options to me. It was somewhat of a small fire place. I was nervous about whether or not a wood-burning stove would give me the amount of heat I needed. It was a wonderful. The work that they did was great. They cleaned up after themselves. They finished in a very timely fashion. Other people told me that it wouldn't work and it wouldn't draw correctly. They used  a really good quality liner and it's been perfect. This is one of the best things they've ever done.

They were there in February and March of 2013. They are into natural stones, gas fire place inserts and wood burners. They get the granite and the marble slabs and the glass door enclosures for your fire places. They have been there forever. I don't know how you can write this up but the owner of the company is in his eighties and  he personally takes charge of everything. He comes out to the sites and makes sure his employees are there on time. He calls you to make sure you are satisfied. The work is perfection, he is a stickler for perfection. The way he puts it on paper, it better be the way it ends up. The price is high average but you get what you pay for. As a matter of fact he is coming back this week, to finish one of the fire place inserts.

Purchased a house with a fire place that was not operable and a chimney that was crumbling.  I used Howell Craft 6 years ago for a prior home after extensive research and went back to them for this house.  Matching stone on an older home is not an easy task, Herb (the owner) came to my house for my fire place insert estimate, looked at the chimney and said I have stone that will work.  They repaired my chimney by removing all the brick and replacing with stone and installed a Quadra Fire insert in my fireplace.  Great job from start to finish.  As with any project, time and patience is always needed.

Their fireplace showroom was under construction, so we couldn't see the insert we were interested in installed in a fireplace. Herb came out and measured our fireplace on the Sunday preceding Labor Day. There was some ball dropping in their getting back to us with quotes, dates and answers to questions, but less than with other contractors. The insert requires an electrical outlet for the fan and we and our electrician were unsure about where the best place was to install the outlet. The manufacturer's web site and customer support (hearthstonestoves.com) were awful in helping us, Howell Craft was just a little better. We were also disappointed to learn that the fresh air inlet is not actually connected to the insert (more efficient), but rather is similar to a dryer vent installed through the wall close by. The finished insert is nice and keeps the house warm - just in time for winter.

Overall it was very good, It took a long time to get him to our house but once he got here he did an excellent job. It took me about two years to get him to come and work but they did a very good job.

I CAN'T SAY ENOUGH GOOD THINGS ABOUT THIS COMPANY. THEY PRELAID ALL MY STONES FOR A PREVIEW BEFORE INSTALLATION. THEY WERE VERY PROMPT AND CLEAN WITH THEIR WORK. THE EMPLOYEES WHO DID THE INSTALLATION WERE VERY FRIENDLY AND POLITE. THE PRICE I RECEIVED WAS VERY REASONABLE. THEY WERE A GREAT COMPANY TO DEAL WITH. I WILL RECOMMEND THEM VERY HIGHLY TO ANYONE LOOKING FOR THAT KIND OF WORK.
