Mr. Miller started out doing good work. As time went on more and more I had to question him on work that later fixed. I had just gotten out of the hospital after a three year stay. I was put on bed rest. I would give Mr. Miller my Lowes card to get materials with no problems. The card was full and we still needed materials. Again I told Mr. Miller I would need this money back. He promised I would get every penny back. So I gave him my credit card to finish getting the materials I needed. Shortly after the grant from the government came through. By then all the work on their list was done and paid for by me. We received the first draw of about 2,900.00 dollars. Mr. Miller told me he would use those monies to do the last two things on the list and on the next draw we would get the lifts and final two draws would come back to me. To my surprise Mr. Miller received the second draw of over 9,000.00. But instead of getting the lifts he kept all the money and dropped out of sight. He hasn't contacted me or returned my calls or text. When I received my credit card bill I found he had taken 4,000,00 dollars of of my card for which he hasn't paid back and the intrest is building every month. I have a court date with him this month. I kept all the text messages from all conversations. Can't wait to hear him lie to a judge. My advise to anyone who reads this is to beware. If he will cheat and steal from a disable vet he will get you too.
"(Removed member name), I am very sorry that you feel this way. I honestly can not believe this is happening. The only reason I agreed to allow you to use your Lowes card for the materials is because we both know the office of Veterans affairs takes months to get any answers or monies from them. We both have been filling out paper work with them for almost 3 years in order to even get started. It was never in agreement that I would lay money out for your materials. After 1 year I was reluctant to even proceed with this project after hearing of all the previous contractors who walked off, it was very challenging to fix all of their mistakes and next to impossible to get a time frame from the government. It was challenging to schedule other projects around yours. However, you are a disabled veteran & a neighbor, so against others advice, I proceeded. When you changed your choice of the lift, the current money draw from the government did not even cover the cost to purchase, along with the other materials also purchased from the draw, so I immediately contacted them to see what we could do. I was waiting to hear back from them then you contacted them and said you fired me. I never received any payment for Labor. All of the money that came from the government went to materials for your project, the only money received from them was the first draw of $2,828 and then the 2nd draw of $9,220. The work that was completed was fixing of the floor from the previous contractor, that took about 10 days alone, constructing a 75 sq ft deck that had to be able to withhold frequent wheelchair use, fixed rotten wood, the roof, installed a new tile floor, re-screened the screen porch, a total kitchen remodel, including new appliances, a complete bathroom remodel, plumbing, electrical, making the doorways wider & various other smaller projects I helped you out with with. We went over the costs of these projects when you signed our contract before the government was even involved so I am unsure about your confusion. Our signed contract is in the amount of $29,975. I only received Approx $12,000. Th only item left of the list is the lift so clearly I am due money for my labor. I had no idea that you were unhappy in any way, I was in the process of working out with the government to get more money from the remaining draw of $18,875 in order to cover the costs of this new lift and without any word from you, I get paperwork from the sheriff that you are suing me. I feel that you should be paid back for your materials on the projects that the government was paying for, not the side jobs that you wanted completed that were above and beyond the government approved scope of work. However, the agreement we came to was that you would be paid back at the completion of the job when the government paid the last 2 remaining draws, not by me out of my pocket so I am very confused why you are suing me personally. Why should I pay for your materials that you have? I have not made a dime on your job. I have been working there for close to 3 years and deserve to be compensated for my work. Unfortunately, I can't work for free. I am still willing to continue this project of course, because I am due money for my labor. I feel you are trying to keep all of the money from the government and stiff me out of my payment. This situation is very unfortunate and I wish to come to some sort of agreement. You said it yourself that my work was better then any other of the numerous previous contractors that you had in. I am not trying to rip you off Julius, look at all of these other reviews. I don't rip any one off and I feel these statements are unfair. I wish you would have called me to speak about this instead of just filing suit and posting on here! If you would like to speak so we can finish up this project, give me a call anytime."

Even though he lives almost an hour away, we decided to contact Don Miller. What a shock....not only did he return our phone calls and emails, but stated he would promptly travel almost an hour to check out our roof. Mr. Miller showed up as promised and thoroughly checked both the outside and inside of our roof. He said we did not need a new roof. He believed the leaks were coming from a faulty ridge vent. He gave us a very reasonable quote and told us he would start the work within a week...weather permitting. Don Miller showed up as scheduled and completed the work within the day. He left our property spotless.
It has been almost 3 months since Don Miller replaced the ridge vent and despite some intense thunder storms we have had no further leaks onto our ceilings. We can't tell you how much we appreciate Mr. Miller's wonderful workmanship to go along with his outstanding honesty and integrity. He truly is a gem.
Since he had jobs to finish for other customers, we agreed that work on the garage would be done first (while the weather was still good), and he would begin the inside work after Christmas. The garage work was nicely done.
Don kept us informed of when he would start, and arrived promptly in the morning on Jan. 4, Due to the age of the house, we knew there might be some unexpected problems, and there was one: when he removed the ceiling paneling, we saw that an old beam, cut many years ago to install heat/ac ducts, needed to be replaced in order to hold the weight of the drywall. We were concerned, but Don did a great job on the replacement. In fact, the new beam adds a nice detail to the room.
We had originally planned to put new drywall only on about two-thirds of the room, but when we saw how nice it was beginning to look, we talked to Don about the possibility doing the rest of the room. We agreed on the additional price, and were extremely pleased with our decision.
It was a pleasure to work with Don. He arrived each weekday morning between 8-8:30. If he was going to be delayed, he called, and when he left for lunch or other reasons, he let us know. He's a meticulous craftsman, and did all of the work himself. Everything (including clean-up and the other small jobs) was completed by Jan. 16th.
We appreciate Don's "no job too small" policy, and he will be the first person we call the next time we need work done.
Don's work is over and above and his prices are fair. I wil continue to use his services moving forward.
"Thank you very much. It was a pleasure to work with you. I look forward to your future projects."
