All About Appearance

On June 6, 2017 we hired Randy E. Rarick of All About Appearance in East Stroudsburg, PA, to mulch our property. He did odd jobs and lawn cutting for a relative for the approx. 2 years so we felt confident on hiring him. We called him and he immediately drove to our home in NJ to pick up a $1600.00 deposit and went directly to the bank to cash it. He said at that time he would come on June 19, 2017 to start the work. June 18 came and we didn't hear from him about delivery of the mulch so I contacted him and asked if he was coming. He texted me the morning of June 19 and said due to the weather and that he was backed up with work, he would come on June 28. June 23, I texted him to see if he was coming on June 28 and no response. I sent another text on June 25 and no response. We tried to call and there was no answer. We called the morning of June 28 and left a voicemail stating that we no longer wanted him to do the work and we wanted our money back. He immediately wrote back claiming he had an out of town emergency and left his phone home for a week. We tried to call him at that moment and again no answer. I texted him to ask what the reason was for not answering now. We sent more texts and called again June 30. We still didn’t receive the money and he never responded. When I told him we were hiring an attorney he called on June 30 and said he was mailing the money AGAIN after I told him to drop it off at my mother's home. He said he doesn’t know what happened but he sent the money. I asked him what my address was and he couldn’t give it to me. He said he sent the money on Thursday, June 29. In texts he admitted taking the money and stating he was happy he didn't do the work. We have since hired an attorney and he still has not sent us the money.
