I would use him again.

Recommend by previous homeowners for yearly roof maintenance (70+ year old slate roof) and gutter cleaning.  Called in October 2009 to schedule Fall/Winter service.  Told to call back after Thanksgiving.  Had to call repeatedly to get a response and finally did get date scheduled for Jan/Feb to get the work done.  Work was seemingly done well and they were punctual for day scheduled.  Thought everything was fine, but months later leak was back.  We tought leak reoccurance was due to hail damage. 

Called September 2010 to get estimate for repairs caused by hail damage.  Finally got response in November.  Had to pester him to get him to come out and inspection for estimate.  Because of unexpected health complications on his end, never did get all the information we needed in usable time (by January 2011).   Insurance did total out other portions of the roof due to hail damage, but not the area that was leaking and had been repaired previously by Mr. Laird.  That area they considered 'repair error damage'.

Bottom line - getting reliable, affordable work done on slate was such a hassle, we ended up replaceing the roof with asphalt shingles.  A shame too, it Mr. Laird had been more responsive and able to meet our repair needs, we were committed to keeping and maintaining the slate roof and had budgeted $1000/year to do so.

This is the fourth group of slate roofing specialists who have worked on our roof, and FINALLY we have a winner! Bill Laird, his son, and the rest of his crew were fantastic. We found them by asking who took care of the very large, old slate roof on our church. Bill is a meticulous and talented craftsman who knows his trade inside and out, and cares about doing a good job. He uses quality materials and delivers a quality job. I was amazed when he showed us the snow guards he uses and compared them to the obviously inferior things that other roofers had previously installed. He was somewhat pricey, and the work took a long time, but they were on the job every day when weather permitted, and we are much more than satisfied with the results. We will never think of using any other roofer. This one is a gem.

We bought the house in 10/09 and Mr. Laird was highly recommended by the prvious owners. Unfortuantely, it took us 7 phone calls(the last one being from my husband saying "If you don't want our business, can you recommned someone else) and 5+ months to actually get him out to do the work. Extremely good at his job, but we are switching to someone easier to get hold of.

He did a wonderful job for me. He was very nice and very professional. He did absolutely wonderful work. He also does roofing work. His price was better than what I had anticipated. I was very concerned because the gutters were damaged because of the weather. The insurance company had given me a set amount and I was very concerned if the amount would cover the cost. However, it did. I would recommend him because he is prompt. If he tells you that he will be there at a certain time on a certain day, he will be there. He is also very reasonably priced. He does a quality job. I will, without hesitation, use him again in the future.

We were very pleased with the performance of Bill and his crew as they really understand how to work with slate. In addition, they were punctual, did very neat work, and cleaned after themselves. They did everything to make sure we were satisfied with the job. Slating is an unusual profession these days, so it's difficult to compare Laird with another company. Altogether, we cannot imagine that another company would have been a better choice. Keep in mind a slate roof is an expensive investment.

Bill does an excellent job, both maintaining our slate roof and in proving prompt repair when needed.
