It went quite well, we are pleased with the work. Overall, Matt is skilled, conscientious, customer-focused, detail-oriented, listens well, does great work and has a great attitude. I would definitely hire Matt again. Below are details:
We had some missing grout and minor grout repair needed in our hall bath of our 23 year old home - overall, the caulk and grout just looked old, a bit stained and were starting to fail. It's a small hall bath; shower over tub, toilet and vanity. My first contact with Matt was in mid-October via the Sir Grout toll free number (Sir Grout is a franchise). They set up an appt. for Oct 22. Matt arrived on time, reviewed the work, explained his service, answered our initial questions and emailed me an estimate later that same day.
We asked for references and for his insurance and contractor license numbers, as well as a few technical questions on his estimate. Matt usually responded to our emails within 2-3 working days. I think that Matt wants to respond ASAP to questions but because he does everything (the work, the estimates, etc.)...responding to our emailed questions takes a few days. Faster would be an improvement, but overall I'd still want to work with him because of the positives above. (One suggestion that would help....is that even if Matt knows that he cannot respond for a few days, Matt could send a quick email or text saying "got your question, I'll get that info within x days"). By Nov 5 we had spoken to 3 references (all very positive), reviewed his licensing/insurance (all in order) and gotten answers to our questions, and we committed to the work. Matt was booked out beyond Thanksgiving and we settled on Dec 11. Matt arrived on time, and did all the work except the Shower Armor (because his Sir Grout material supplier was out of stock on the Shower Armor). We paid him for the work he did on Dec 11 and agreed Matt would contact me after New Years to do the Shower Armor.
Well, it turned out that I needed to reach out to Matt to remind him of the Shower Armor (would have been better if Matt had contacted me, but not a huge deal). Matt thanked me for reminding him, and we agreed on a date (Jan 18) for him to apply the Shower Armor. He arrived on time, and did the work well and promptly, and we paid him for it.
Matt suggested specific products that would help extend the life of the work that he did (none of which are sold by Sir Grout) - that impressed me, because it means he wants to help customers have a good experience even if he doesn't make a commission on selling "add on" cleaning products from Sir Grout.
