"Thank you for your review. Please keep us in mind for any of your future needs! Sincerely, Shay Ram Siding Co. Inc."
If it wasn't for the fact that we rec'd a quote a couple months before we could get anyone to come out and make the repairs it would have been fine. We had to place countless calls to the office to find out when we were going to get on the schedule and no one would call us back. Very frustrating. Once they arrived and performed the service they did a great job.
They need to be more responsive to their customers.
"We are sorry you feel your communication needs were not met. We experience high call volume during storms and try to prioritize our customer’s needs based on the level of emergency they are experiencing communicating with them along the way to the best of our ability. While all customers are important to us, we do try to meet the needs of customers in emergency situations first. We do our very best to address all needs as fast as possible with the resources and time we have available to us."
We had requested a particular crew (had watched them do a neighbor's roof) but chose not to wait until they were available, some two weeks longer.
We were given rather short notice that a crew was available to replace our roof, receiving a call on a Monday to see if they coulod do the job the next day, Tuesday. In their defense we had expressed a desire to have it done as soon as possibl. I was told they would be here at 7:30 AM to start the work.
On Tuesday no one showed at 7:30. By 8:30 AM I called my contact at Ram inquiring as to their whereabouts. He did not know but siad he would check and call back. A few minutes later he called to advise that the crew had worked until 9:00 PM the night before and were running late but that they should arrive shortly. When they arrive (about 9:30 AM) there was one unmarked truck with two workmen. After introductions they set right to work. Some tiome later a third workman arrived and later yet a fourth. Despite the late start all four worked diligently and by 7:00 PM they had the entire main roof stripped, underlayment in place, and starter rows begun. On Wednesday morning the crew arrived at about 7:30, this time 3 of them together followed (later) by the fourth. Before 3:00 PM they had the entire job done, cleaned up and left.
Having done some roofing as a side job myself and can say that this sub-contracted crew contained workers with varied experience. The crew leader and his chief assistant were knowledgeable, experienced, and concientious workers. The balance of the crew was less inspiring in their abilities or their approach to the job.
Overall, having some knowledge of roofing, I was pleased with the crew and with Ram Siding.
I wrote this review a long time ago, but Angies list has been bugging me to write it (maybe I submitted incorrectly?). Anyway, it might seem a bit on the negative side, but it should not--I would use them again no doubt.
First day they were trying to extend their boom truck over a wooden deck/walkway to have quick access to the roof. The boom was over extended and the truck tipped forward, the bucket smashing one of their ladders against our front gutter and then down to damage the railings of the walkway and the shrubs and trees surrounding it. Dave apologized and later had someone repair damage to gutter and walkway.
They had promised not to disrupt the flow of visitors to the building, which they did for days. It was explicitly stated in specifications that they were to clear all debris and there were nails, bits of flashing, staples and cigarette butts on the roof and surrounding the building (again, where public visitors were walking daily) the whole time and we were still picking up a week after the job.
The work started slowly- they only had two or three workers there the first day and all they did was get materials up on the roof and begin to remove some shingles. The second day they began re-roofing. The third day it rained and the rain came pouring into our building. It took two hours for someone to come to fix the problem. They left, saying that some underlayment had blown loose and they tacked it down. The leaks did not stop- they got worse. It took another two hours for someone to come back to tarp the whole area of work. The second worker to show up showed me how they had properly prepared for rain along one dormer but for some reason not another.
The next day we asked them not to come in order to be certain that the roof decking had a chance to properly dry. They said that was unnecessary and and quot;they roofed over wet stuff all the timeand quot;. Our architect and consultant both disagreed.
They returned the following day with a lot more workers and got all the shingles replaced over the next two days, but still had sheet metal work to perform. Over the weekend it rained again and again we had leaks, this time in another location. Again, their own sheet metal worker showed me where the ice and water shield was not properly adhered which caused leaking around a skylight. He apparently fixed the problem.
During our final inspection of work, our consultant found several small items that needed to be addressed. Ram returned and completed the final checklist.
This company subcontracts to a bunch of people they can't or are unwilling to control with proper oversight. The low price is not worth the poor quality or professionalism.
