Floor-it Flooring did several jobs for me on our rental. So ,I thought I'd use Mike again to do 2 small bathroom floors on our side of the house. After he gave the quote.I decided (for times sake)I would take up the old floor for him. Anyway,Mike comes back, puts the tile pattern linoleum flooring in and even put the door back on for me. (It was only to cover up the fact that he laid the linoleum all little crooked. You can also tell HE KNEW because he put the transition strip down crooked to try to hide it). It was such a small bathroom, and we are planning on selling the property anyway. Besides,I wanted to get the toilet back in and finish that bathroom. So I left his mistake slide. Now several weeks later, I have him back to do the second one and he totally screwed up the job.Unfortunately I paid him CASH. By the way, this time he didn't put the doors on because it even makes it more obvious of how crooked a job he did. My friend said it gives him vertigo when he walks in it. I haven't finished that bathroom for over a month now because he doesn't answer my calls. I called him 4 times already. He never offered to take money off for getting the floors ready and to top it off, he even kept my senior citizen discount. OH YEAH,HE'S A GREAT GUY...THIEF!!! You'll be hearing from my lawyer Mike Althoff.

It went extremely well! Mike was prompt in responding to me on Angie's List and immediately set up an appointment to come and give my wife and I help selecting carpet and explaining everything to us. Mike was extremely flexible with us at the last minute when we had to push the time back an hour. If you need carpet work, hire this company. They are great!

Mike the owner and his helper were here to do the job 20 mins. before the time we agreed upon. I was impressed by that. They were here at 8:00am which is what we agreed on. They moved my china cabinet, tv, and sofa. Removed old carpet and pad. By 10:30 they were all finished. They did an excellent job. Only took a few days for carpet to arrive from factory after he placed order then we sat a date to have it installed. I don't like it when I hire a company to do a job and assume the person I talked to is the one who will do the job but then they send other people who work for them who don't always do such a great job. One of the reasons I choose this company was because Mike sells and installs the carpet himself. I would highly recommend this company to anyone needing carpet. Mike was very easy to talk to and very kind and courteous. It was a pleasure doing business with him.

Mike and his apprentice were on time, very professional, and fast-working. He explained what needed to be done and quickly did an excellent job! I appreciated his professionalism and skill. I didn't rate the price for his work because I have nothing to compare it to. I would definitely hire him again and will recommend him to others!

Last year Floor It Flooring installed tile flooring in 2 of my bathrooms and it worked out well, so I figured I'd have them install carpeting in my house. Unfortunately this job didn't go as well. When the owner Mike had visited my house weeks ago, we discussed pricing and various grades of carpet/padding which included looking at large swatches of carpet to compare texture/color etc.. I chose a low-medium quality carpet since I'll be renting out my house later this year and wanted something decent but not extravagant. During the conversation Mike stated that my house had 6lb padding and I thought since the carpeting wasn't going to be extremely thick, a better padding would help - so I decided to go with the 8lb variety and Mike said it would be a step above what I currently had so I was optimistic. Yesterday morning Mike and his assistant arrived to install the carpeting and I immediately noticed how thin the carpeting was as well as the padding being the same thickness as what I had. Now I was under no illusion that the carpet would be thick and plush - but it's so thin that when you walk on it you feel the concrete below. As I tap the carpet floor with my knuckle it makes a clicking noise - the backing material is that close to the surface. So when I asked Mike about the padding not being any better than what I currently had, he said that he "misspoke" and assumed it was 6lb. I explained that it was my impression that I'd be receiving padding that was thicker than what I had since he told me it would be a step above - I mean, that was the point of choosing the 8lb in the first place. He again said that he thought it was 6lb padding when he first visited to discuss the installation. Now had I been given accurate information from the beginning, I would have chosen 10lb padding - but it was too late. Sensing that he wasn't understanding just how confused and unsatisfied I was, I asked why the carpeting felt much thinner than the swatch I chose weeks ago. Mike simply said "that's the one you chose, so I don't know what else to tell you." Needless to say I was frustrated and bitterly disappointed with the whole situation since he made no effort to address my concerns. It was one of the most uncomfortable experiences I've ever had with a vendor - to feel like you're being taken advantage of and not be able to do anything since it was too late to cancel the job and get your money back.

"This review is 100% false. I am [Member Name Removed]and I am the owner of the business. I personally dealt with this customer/member. To start, I gave him an estimate and measured for carpet. He told me that he wanted the whole house done for under $2,700. This price needed to include a 1st floor living room and hallway, Flight of steps, 3 bedrooms, closets, and upstairs hallway. This price also had to include along with carpet: 8lb residential grade carpet padding, tearing out old materials, moving furniture, disposal of old carpet and padding, stair installation, etc. This customer asked me roughly what was the padding he currently had down and I said it is very hard to tell since the padding has been down for a while. I could not know until I actually tore up the carpet to find out. We use a quality grade of 8lb padding with was so much better than he had down currently. I have never switched carpet on anyone. I order actually what the customer picks. This review also stated that the customer confronted me about the carpet and padding. This is 100% not true. This customer got what they picked out and I am happy that we were even able to find him any carpet that fit his narrow budget for all of these that was needed. I could tell that this customer wished he had spent a little more to get better carpet for more anticipated results. At no time was he been taken advantage of because we went out of our way to get him this carpet and padding at the price point. This individual knew actually what he purchased at the time of the sale. -Best wishes -Mike (owner)"

Great job, however I decided I didn't like the color I picked out. Mike and Adam had no problem coming back and removing it and putting it on my basement stairs instead. They redid the stairs with the new color it looks wonderful! They are very quick and professional.

I got carpets installed and I got wrinkles in my carpet. They did a good job. They told me that they didn’t put any tack strips down, they used the old ones and I think that’s why the carpet is getting wrinkled.
Response from Floor It Flooring
"I am Mike Althoff and the owner of Floor-it Flooring. I see that there are 3 b's from this customer regarding this wrinkling issue. We give an industry setting one-year installation warranty on all of our installations. Carpet can wrinkle for many reasons. One reason such as in this case, moving and siding of heavy furniture has a big impact on your carpet stretch. We did use the existing tackstrip but we inspected them and they were great. I believe temperature/humidity along with pushing heavy furniture over the carpet (rather than lifting and placing furniture) is what caused these buckles. We insure our work for one year from carpet wrinkling. If a carpet is going to wrinkle, it normally happens within the first year or four seasons. We install our carpets professionally and if they buckle or wrinkle it is usually due to a factor in the house itself or people pushing furniture from room to room. We can not keep coming out to this individuals house to repair the wrinkles when they are being caused by the customer directly. We do not warranty against customers self abusing their carpets. I always tell each of our customers that if possible to lift their furniture rather than sliding it. I have re-stretch this carpet in her living room once already free of charge even though it was after the warranty period. Best Wishes -Mike"

I decided to wait a few months after the installation to see how the carpet held up. I am very pleased. Mike came to the house and showed me samples which I appreciated. I had a lot of work done on my house and I was happy not to have to go carpet shopping. I based my choice on what company to use because of Angies List reviews. I told Mike I wanted good quality, a neutral color, and something that wouldn't show dirt and had a stain resistance to it. Mike showed what he was using in his own home. The color was perfect because it is sort of a beige taupe which I thought would work well with grays and tans just incase I decided to change colors of walls or decor. My carpet is very high quality and I love it. Everyone likes it. For flow in my house the walls are one color and my carpet is also. But each room's décor is different and this carpet works well with them all.. I also have dark hardwood floors with various area rugs through out. I love my house and I think it is beautiful. Mike and his apprentice who were both very nice did the install in one day. There was a reasonable charge for moving heavy bedroom furniture, but the cost of the carpet which was top of the line was $2963.38. I have no problems with seams or stretching or anything else. Not sure what happened with that other review... and how about the one who thought she could get her house done for 99! (OMG!!)

I had read the other reviews here on Angie's List and decided to give Floor-It a try. I contacted Mike through his website to ask if he actually serviced our area since we are quite far from the Mechanicsburg area. Mike responded in good time and asked me to provide him with the approximate measurements of the room. He then provided me with a rough estimate giving me a ballpark figure on what it would cost for a medium grade carpet with a high quality pad. I really appreciated this since it helped me determine whether his prices were going to be within my budget and if it was worth having him come out and do a complete assessment of the job. Also since I am quite far from his usual work area I did not want to waste his time. Mike came out and brought samples. He was very knowledgeable about the products and we also discussed details such as removal of the old carpet and pad, who would be responsible for moving furniture etc, and all of this was documented on the final quote. He very kindly did not charge me for moving a rather heavy sofa and chair and as it turned out-they even put them back once the carpet was installed. Installation happened about a week later, Mike and Adam arrived early and did a stellar job of removal and installation and in record time! I am really happy with the end result and would not hesitate to hire them again since they obviously are very proud of their craft. I have had really good luck hiring small business owners - all of them I have found on Angie's List- and this time was no exception. Thank you Mike and Adam for such excellent workmanship and customer service your hard work and attention to detail is very much appreciated!

I've used mike in the past to do several jobs for me. I was currently ready to finish the remainder of the house so I knew it was time to call mike back. I called mike and scheduled a time for him to come out and give me an estimate. He came out within 2 days which is a quick turnaround if you ask me. Mike showed me samples because I wanted to go with a better grade carpet in the rest of the house. Mike gave me a 10% discount for being a returning customer which helped out a lot. Once mike gave me the price I told him I wanted to move forward on the job. He told me he would call when the carpet arrived to schedule an install date. Within about a week he called and set up install date for the following week. The morning of mike and Adam showed up 15 minutes early for the job. I had them install 3 bedrooms and a custom staircase. They worked all day long from start to finish. After all work was done they cleaned up and left. What I like about floor it flooring is mike the owner installs the flooring his self With his apprentice Adam. They work very quickly and proficient. The job looked perfect. They are definitely one of the most professional companies around and they take tremendous pride in their work. They will actually be doing my sons house in the coming months. I will definitely use mike on my next flooring project.

"Mr. [Member Name Removed], Thank you for your review and I wanted to thank you for all of your kind words. It has been a pleasure getting to know you and your wife [Removed Member Name] over these last few years. Your son [Removed Member Name] called me yesterday and informed me that he is ready to start on new carpet for his house. I will be applying a 10% discount to his total as well since you referred him to us. He picked the same carpet that you have in your upstairs, so he will be very happy how it transforms his basement into an additional living space. Thanks again for your business -Michael Althoff (owner) Floor-it Flooring (717) 979-4064"

I have been waiting a while to write this review because quite frankly I can't decide if I'm satisfied or dissatisfied with the carpet and the experience. Below are the pros and cons from our carpet install.
  • Pros
  • -Owner is extremely responsive in communication via phone, Angie's List, text, email, etc.
  • -Owner does most of the work himself with the help of apprenticeship

-Price for the carpet and install was great
-Only required one day for complete install
-Very knowledgeable staff
Cons
-We have been unhappy with the seams since the install. We contacted the owner who did quickly send us a tool that you can use to cosmetically hide the seams at no cost to us which was nice; however, some of the seams were ultimately just done poorly or at least what I'm assuming is poor  (For example, one side of the seam will overlap, there will be a gap in the middle and all the way to the other side of the wall--or just a gap along the entire seam--etc.) We contacted the owner--again, very responsive--but I did feel as though he tried to wordsmith me on why the seams were like this (contracting, carpet has to settle for a year, the carpet manufacturer dictates how the seams are laid, etc). To the point that I stopped him and said that I didn't have an issue with all of the seams or the location of the seams, I only had an issue with the ones that were always visible or can be felt underfoot due to an overlap or a gap. I'd say about half of the seams in our house were laid like this. The remainder are invisible to my eye which is lovely. I offered to send a picture and he offered to come out if he felt it necessary. We ultimately didn't send a picture because we couldn't get one clear enough to view via text or email, though I'm sure he probably would've come out to see it in person if we had followed up again (see below as to why we didn't).
-When we were discussing the install I asked if he could replace our gold metal brackets that hold down our carpet against other flooring like our vinyl and hardwood. He said that that was typically done when the other types of flooring are replaced. Obviously we trusted that; however, we have since had our other types of flooring replaced and during the quote process, I mentioned this to all three companies bidding on the work and they said this was inaccurate. That it was ultimately just easier on the carpet installer to not change them out. Again, I'm not a carpet installer or a flooring installer at all, but this was my experience and feedback on it when discussing with other flooring professionals. In light of this information, we didn't feel comfortable requesting him to come back out to look at the seams because I didn't necessarily trust that our best interest would be kept in mind.
-A few of our walls/trim/front door/front doorknob were banged up during the carpeting process. Nothing major in terms of wood or drywall damage, just some painting work. The front doorknob however was permanently dented/scratched into the metal.

Like I said, have struggled with my overall satisfaction with this transaction since August which is the reason for the delay in reviewing. I think if someone wanted a quick turnaround for a decently priced carpet, I'd recommend, but otherwise, if they had the time or money to go elsewhere, I wouldn't recommend.
