We lost electric on Friday. We contacted Mr. Jobe Saturday morning and he returned our call within 20 minutes of leaving a message. He had wanted to come check out the problem Saturday afternoon, but because we had plans with our family for the day, Mr. Jobe volunteered to come out on Sunday morning at 9 a.m. (not a day that he normally works) even though we stated that we could wait until Monday. Mr. Jobe arrived before 9 a.m. and solved the problem within 45 minutes. He even sealed our electrical panel as water was coming into the unit as it had not been properly sealed at the time of installation by another electrician.
Mr. Jobe was very professional and friendly. We feel that he went out of his way to help us. We will definitely use his services again in the future and would highly recommend his services to others.
When we bought our house, we knew that it had aluminum wiring. Our home inspector found it, as did the owner's inspector.
Our inspector explained to us. because aluminum and copper expand and contract from heat at different rates. Over time, this causes aluminum wiring to come loose from copper connections, which can cause problems. There are certain approved connectors that can be used to connect the two, but they were not present at the time of our inspection. The owner (communicating through the realtor) told us that an electrician was already taking care of this but the proper type of connector was on order. An invoice was presented to use at closing by the owner to show that the problem had been remedied.
Fast forward a year and a half later. One morning, getting ready for work early, I heard a crackling noise in one of the bedrooms. I looked in. The light was off, so I could see sparks coming out of the side of an outlet. I called the fire department. On my way downstairs, instinctively, I turned out the light switch that it turns out the outlet was on. The fire department found that the wire on the side of that outlet was loose and explained that when dust gets in and a load is put on the line, the dust starts to burn and causes the sparking. They removed the outlet, checked to make sure nothing in the wall was over 90 degrees, and left.
I had used Glenn Jobe before, for insulating before moving into the house. I called him to have him look at the electric. I was prepared to hear that the house should be rewired, but he stated that would be very expensive and recommended replacing all of the outlets and switches. He said that any problems that occur with the wiring will be at those points.
I went around that weekend and counted the number of outlets and switches. As it turns out, this was not a completely accurate count -- I missed a few.
He and an assistant spent almost a day replacing everything. I think there were about 50 outlets and over 20 switches. That night, we found one light that did not work properly -- this was an entryway light that had three switches to operate it, and two would work only if one was in a certain position -- he came the next day and fixed this (replaced two of the switches he suspected might be defective).
Since then, everything has worked perfectly, and he charged less than half what the prior owner had to pay her electrician.
We would DEFINITELY recommend Glenn for any electrical work you might need. He is prompt, efficient, reasonable and knowledgeable. His phone number is (724) 468-5453.
