He came February 2 to start and pick up his first $9,000 installment. One guy working for a week. No show for two weeks. During the no show period left a faucet leaking in the newly demolished bathroom. It leaked through to Living room ceiling with ornate plaster detail. Now it looks like a sponge & he lied about it being the plumbers fault. The leak stained and bowed paneled walls in the living room and made my hardwood floor curl. He said he would fix them and never did. The floors and paneling were redone, paid for by me, couldn't get stain or bow out. Not showing up for weeks at a time I kept calling. He came and worked frantically said he needed to get paid early, I gave him another big payment. I didn't see him for another 2 weeks. I called him every day. Weeks went by no show, then one day he came worked frantically and said everything was roughed in ( it wasn't) and I owed him another big payment, I said no, he said if I didn't pay him he would walk. I wrote up a contract stating a time when each item needed to be finished. I paid him the last big payment. He came for a few days then no show. I called him and said if you don't finish everything by this Sunday I am going to hire another contractor to finish. He came the next day, he laughed and said he didn't work on the weekend and neither did his employees. I fired him. I am leaving out a lot of other things he did. One last big thing, he was supposed to weld a major beam, that he had cut through and I had an engineer draw up specs to make it safe and he told me he did it and he had the tile guy cover it with a marble piece. Turns out he didn't weld it and "packed it out" with wood. When I told the engineer this he said that was silly and the beam would fail. I said what does that mean? Will my house fall down? He said yes. I am now in the process of having my marble floor cut away with the heat in it and looking for a welder to make this work. I found out later he never paid any of the subs. 14 weeks and my job is 65% done. I am now waiting for my new contractor to start.
