Just Perfectly

Most of their work is excellent, but there are problems, and they are overpriced, to the extent of price-gouging. They installed a sprinkler system at our home 10 years ago, and for the most part it went well, but they wired the system in to the light fixture in the garage, which of course meant that when we turned the garage light off, the system shut down. They came out and fixed the problem, but tried to charge us extra for it (a lot!), even though it was their own dumb error. We have had an annual service contract with them since then ($495 to turn it on in the spring and shut down in the fall). When the controller failed a few years ago, we received a very hefty bill ($400.00) for replacing it. The last straw came when I attempted to have the rain sensor replaced last August. The sensor failed years ago, and the service man kept saying that it would be replaced under warranty, but he never did; he finally said that the front office kept deleting the repair order. Finally the front office said they would replace it, and it would cost $230. I bought the identical rain sensor online for $61, put it in myself in 5 minutes, and it works perfectly now. I have now contracted with a different company (one that got all A's on Angie's List) to do start-up and shut-down at less than half of Sharkey's price.

Sharkey installed a sprinkler system for the planting beds at out home in 2011 and have serviced it ever since. In August we went on vacation and upon returning found many plant in the from beds had died. I checked and found there was no power to the sprinkler system. Sharkey's tech responded and discovered that the power came from a plug in an outlet in the basement. This apparently was how the system had been originally installed, but we were never informed of that and there were no marking to indicate it. While the tech was there, he tested the rain sensor control and said it wasn't working. A new unit would cost $350, so I decided to wait. I went online and bought the same system for $60. Installing it would involve removing 4 wires and reconnecting them, a 10 minute job. Before installing it, I tested the original unit by holding the test switch down for about 10 seconds. It worked fine. The tech had just pressed it without waiting the full 10 seconds. The sensing part of the control was mounted on a gutter. The holes in the sensor for collecting the rain were in the horizontal position which would not be effective. I remounted it with the holes facing upward.

Their customer service was friendly, their technician showed up on time and and was professional. He completed the job quickly and the pricing was very fair.

Company was extremely responsive and very easy to work with. Called back after initial contact within 24 hours. Dedicated sales rep that worked with us from beginning to end of process. No fuss, no exotic sales pitch. Walked the yard with me to get an idea of what I was looking for, and came up with solution to meet my needs. This included both the irrigation solution as well as the drainage solution.
The quote came right in the middle of the range of all the other providers that I looked at. Top end quote completely over-engineered the estimate and solution, and was almost double the cost of Sharkey. The low end quote drove by the property and stuck an estimate in the mail box.
With all the rain we had this year, the actual install date kept getting pushed, but I continually was kept informed and it worked out fine. Staff showed up on time, as promised, and finished the job per the commitment from our sales rep. We were out of town when the job wrapped up, but the sales rep came back a week later and did a full walk through of the system with me after the install (he also set up the system to run while we were out, which was nice).
First service on the system was included in the price (the winterizing of the system). We were told that we would be contacted in the spring to boot up the system.
All in all a very pleasant, relatively pain free experience. True test will be next summer when we have a normal, drier summer.

They crew came out and performed the installation in two days, as promised. They were very mindful of my property and put everything back in place and seeded the areas they had to disturb. They showed me how to use the system and made sure I understood. I have used them for a few service calls as well as a system shut down at the end of every season. Everyone I have dealt with has always been courteous and professional.

They always provide prompt and professional service. I will continue to use this company's services every year.

Couldn't have gone more smoothly. We schedule, they show up when scheduled and do the work. No fuss, no mess and the job is done. The folks in the office are very friendly and the guys in the field do great work.

They are really good. They are just very professional. Price-wise, I have not compared them with any other company. I will continue to use them in the future.

Nice fellow; seemed to be very competent. Unfortunately, he mis-read the existing watering schedule so that I had to re-program the controller myself.

Minor communication problem in scheduling arrival: expected a call before agent arrived; failed to call so I wasn't home; came and left. Wasted his trip; had to return the next day.

Their service is good but they are pricey. They are expensive. They are always on time. I would use them in the future.

Good guys who know what they are doing. Ask about the service policy, another issue that seperated them from the pack.

They are fantastic. They are very dependable they are there when they say they will be there. They never try to do something that isn't needed. You can always trust them.

DISASTER! DESTROYED 2 CARPETS IN OUR HOME WITH THEIR DIRTY SHOES. LEFT MUD IN THE SINK OF OUR BASEMENT WHICH REQUIRED PROFESSIONAL CLEANING TO FIX. DID NOT DO THE WORK THEY WERE CONTRACTED TO DO, DID NOT RESPOND TO PHONE CALLS TO FIX THE PROBLEMS, AND THE WORKERS WERE SURLY. I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND THESE PEOPLE TO ANYONE.
