I was in an emergent situation with a water issue in our basement. My parents are in their early 80’s and not in a place to manage the mess. I had called several businesses looking for cleaning and drying the affected area. Consequently, from the first point of contact, Sandy the Operations Manager, through the conclusion of the project, the Service Master by Griffing Team delivered on our project with a superior work ethic, a sense of respect and kindness. I am always grateful to the team that addressed our issues with consideration and the sense of urgency required. This franchise of ServiceMaster has been in the Griffing family for generations...and it shows. They have their work down to a science, and operate in a highly compassionate, professional, and responsive manner. After a fire in the crawlspace of my vacation home filled the entire house with black soot and a horrible odor, I called ServiceMaster and talked with Paul the night we discovered the fire. He met me the next morning and had his crew there for weeks until the work was done to his standards and my satisfaction. ServiceMaster by Griffing focused on remediating the damage from the soot and recommended highly competent contractors for the additional needed work, including linen restoration, appliance restoration, electric, plumbing, insulation, and general contracting. Paul walked us through the entire insurance process and patiently navigated the challenges of dealing with my insurance company. I could not have asked for a better experience with a contractor for fire restoration.

The entire process went very, very well from start to finish!  I had been somewhat apprehensive, partly because I was still shocked by the fire, considering how close it came to engulfing the whole house.  Firemen and electricians all told my husband and me how very lucky we were because it was an extremely close call!
Dillon, head of the team, was exceedingly patient in explaining all that was to transpire during the course of the day.  He indicated that their restoration process will make everything ready for contractors to repair damage.  Then the process began. First, all damaged material was removed from the garage.  Certain items were photographed for reference purposes.  Then these items were packaged in bags and placed in the Dumpster.  Some larger or unwieldy items were simply placed neatly into the receptacle.  Dillon, as well as the other crew members, Nicole and Chris, were always most tidy, precise, and thorough with all that they did.  I was asked my wishes as to the question of disposal of certain items.  If I wanted to keep something, we discussed the advisability of retaining or discarding it.  I always had the option of talking over an issue.  I never felt pressured or unduly influenced.  One happy event: Chris found an old postcard from my husband to his family; he was stationed in Germany during the Vietnam Era, fifty years ago!  Thank you so much again, Chris.  A piece of almost ancient history!                                                                                                                      
After all was removed from the garage, and the soot cleaned from the walls and ceiling, it was time for the steam cleaning.  This was done quickly and efficiently.  I'd like to add that cleaning of the walls, ceiling, and washing machine was also accomplished in the small room adjacent to the garage.  Douglas Griffing, ServiceMaster's Estimator, noticed that this room had been damaged by smoke but had not (?!) been included in the insurance company's settlement.  Mr. Griffing graciously added it to the agenda.

It went extremely well.  I was on a timetable because I had all my contractors lined up--spacklers, painters, plumbers, carpeting--and I needed to get the mold taken care of first.  They were very prompt in getting their work done so I didn't miss a beat with any of my other contractors.  The house was vacant, so it was pretty easy for them to get in and do what they needed to do in a timely manner.  I got moved in right on schedule.

I had been concerned for quite some time about the smell in my mom's basement.  She had been getting sick a lot with respiratory problems, and I wondered if there was mold in the house.  My suspicions were confirmed by ServiceMaster by Griffing, and we authorized the work to be done, as described above.  Over the course of about two weeks, all the work was done. My brothers and I did a lot of other work in conjunction with this, like moving the washer and dryer out of the basement and into a closet upstairs, with a new dryer vent being installed to the outside.  My brother also did some excavating outside the basement where water was backing up and getting into the basement too, which contributed to the mold problem.  It was difficult to gut the basement and watch so many of our childhood memories get thrown away, but in the end, it was the right decision.  I bought and installed a new dehumidifier in the basement which drained into the former washing machine drain, so it would run as needed without having to be emptied every time the basin filled up.  It's not as critical now that the dryer is not in basement and is properly vented, but it still helps to keep the humidity under control.  It's been almost two years now, and the basement still smells as clean as it did right after ServiceMaster finished their work.
Throughout the whole process, everyone at ServiceMaster was so polite and helpful.  They answered any and all questions we had, made suggestions for changing things to prevent problems in the future (like the dehumidifier installation), and taught us a lot about mold and mold remediation. My mom absolutely loved the young men that were there the first day.

I requested quotes from several companies.  Some never even responded.  Chris Griffing, however, called me promptly and discussed how they would clean the duct, and what the price would be.  On the day of service, the technician, Mike, arrived on time and quickly cleaned the dryer duct, removing a large amount of lint.  However, he discovered that the flex connection to the vent outside was restricting air flow.  Despite the fact that the connection was very difficult to access, he was able to modify it to get it to work better.  I was impressed with his expertise and professionalism, and the fact that he went beyond the call of duty.  Their price was higher than another company I checked with, but I thought that the way ServiceMaster by Griffing intended to clean the duct made more sense.  As it turned out, they were well worth the price.
