I can give bad feedback on Home Depot. That was a problem. Everything on my order came in wrong, everything. If I had proof I would have accused them of a bait and switch because I ordered good quality bathtub and surround and they sent a bunch of junk. When I went back to the store they said they could not get what I wanted for another two weeks. I said that was unacceptable. They did not offer anything else. They were just like, oh, well it was kind of my problem. They did not want to give my money back; they wanted to give me an in-store credit. I ended up having to go to corporate to get my money back. I have heard very similar stories in this area about Home Depot. They are night and day different than another major home improvement retailer, I will tell you. I ended up getting upset with them and telling them I did not want anything from them and I could not wait two weeks without a master bath. I told them I was going to a competitor and they got everything I needed to finish the job. When I did not want the in-store credit and I told them I was not shopping there any more they told me I could sell it on Craig's List. I was very unhappy with Home Depot. I give them an F-minus. There was no customer service. They started laughing at me when I told them I wanted something in writing. So that really irritated me. Quite honestly is was not the store itself, it was their ordering department. When they ordered things online they get the orders wrong and they were not very helpful with the employees there when the employees there call to try to get things rectified. I would say it is a company-wide thing and an not a store-specific thing. I kind of felt bad for the one employee who was trying to help me because she was treated rudely by the people who were on the other end of the phone that she was trying to get help from.
I have been waiting a week and no call from Home depot to schedule my door. I paid in full over a week ago but now they are no longer responsive. I have called the store 3 x this week and they assure me they have contacted the door installation company but they still have not called me. I just want to set a scheduled day so I can make arrangements to be home and also schedule some of the other work (staining etc) I thought that by dealing with a large corporation I would not have any of the issues you sometimes have with a small independent contractor I guess I was wrong. My other contractors on my jobs ( siding. masonary etc. are all independent and have so far been responsive. I will never use Home Depot again.
In all fairness I will update if they get it together and provide customer service.
I finally did get a call to schedule. It took over a week to get a call and about 2 weeks to get on the schedule which I am pleased with. My advised on using HD contractors is that you don't get much personal interaction. WE will see how the installation goes and I will update when the door is installed.
They are very knowledgeable at Home Depot.
The sink I ordered from the Home Depot website came in and the installer advised me that it was the wrong shape to fit the existing opening in the counter top. The plumber insisted he would place the 110# cast iron Kohler sink into the hole by himself and he bumped it around and chipped our counter top in two areas. Once the sink was back out of the over-sized opening, I went back to the HD online specs and the specs were incorrect on the site, so the plumber packed up his gear and left advising me I had to take the sink back to the HD store for a refund and to find a different sink. The sink he put back in the box had caulk all over the under side, but he was helpful enough to help me carry it to the garage area.
The HD store was great on the return (quick and helpful) and we had to select a sink from their existing inventory which was NOT what we wanted as we originally ordered a single bay sink but now had to settle for a double bay. The store called Mitchell Plumbing and re-scheduled the re-install for the next day.
The next day a different plumber showed up who didn't know the history of the project and he didn't understand or know how to work with our Reverse Osmosis water purification so he could only focus on installing the replacement sink. Then another Mitchell Plumber showed up who basically hung around for 2 hours but not contributing to the project. These guys left with the sink installed but left all the old caulk that was used to seal in the old (removed) sink still around the perimeter of the of the newly installed sink. He then had to advise his Scheduler that they needed to send, yet again, the original plumber back to finish up the RO system.
A couple days later the original plumber returned to finish up the RO system. I pointed out the old caulk which he needed yet to remove and he did a fairly good (not perfect) job getting it off as our counter tops are tiled. He corrected the RO install and left within about 45 minutes. The entire sink install took about one week due to the online specs of their sink being incorrect and the process was annoying and I would not use HD again.
2.) Dishwasher installation (done by a Home Depot installation team; not sure who they actually were)
We ordered the dishwasher from Home Depot online and it was well rated and arrived right on time. We purchased their $99 installation program which seemed like a good deal as they take out and haul away the old one and then install the new one.
When the dishwasher arrived it was delivered by 3 guys who promptly wanted to install it. This surprised us as we were not informed it would be installed by the delivery team, but we work from our home so we were able to allow the impromptu installation. I was in my home office working and my wife simply stayed in the room with them during their time in our home. They were pleasant and left within 1 hour.
When I came down a hour after they left I checked the install and found that the dishwasher was incorrectly installed (set in crooked) and the door dragged the side wall when opening. We called Home Depot.com and explained the situation and they re-scheduled an installer. The installer came within 3 days and when he reviewed the installation he found and reported to us that there were 7 infractions the prior installer had committed including an electrical hook-up issue which really concerned us. He did a very good and complete job to correct the issues and properly install. When he left it was as it should be.
I later did a Review that Home Depot sent me and advised them of the complete disconnect that the HD online store (which I like) has with its installers (which I fault). They followed up with a phone call and offered me a $30 in store gift card for my troubles, which I accepted. The bottom line is the Home Depot online web site is very good but their service is horrible and they have no controls over their service suppliers AND the brick & mortar store doesn't understand their online store's policies. It took me hours to straighten out/inform both the online and bricks & mortar about one another.
One word review: Ugh
UPDATE AGAIN 09-12-13 Here we are again still trying to get our siding properly installed. We have had no resolution since my last update. The supplies and a bunch of misc. items still sits in a pile in my front yard. Now the best of the best, as Ive been told has been here and started to repair a month ago and has not been back. They said to order supplies, but those supplies have been in, and it's been lies and delays one after the other. Now this current crew is cutting the pieces short and not nailing properly and not even matching up level nailing strips. The siding is hanging off the house… My buyers remorse grows and grows… I never thought a company as big as Home Depot would put a home owner through the on going nightmare. The fire was just the beginning our nightmare. Construction workers sent by Home Depot keep our lives and days full of stress and nights with little sleep. It should NOT be this way. What happened to American pride in a job well done.. So sad! I have no clue how or when this will ever end.
When they do arrive they are to replace the tall corner boards on our bay tower. I'm so afraid of the skill level of this crew, I hope I'm wrong or they send someone else. They need fixed, I'm just not sure they have the ability to make them right or even better.
Update 09-16-13 We finally had a crew of 3 come yesterday, some chips on the shoulders but some work was done. The father of the crew had talent and I "believe " he made a difference in getting the top course on the front fixed. If that had been our only problem, we might be happy today. I'm hoping the fix is "true" we'll know after a few temp.changes. They were to J-channel the bay tower windows. They did not! We are pleased that "Mark" was convinced by my husband and Mark's dad that applying the wide trim boards tower, he insisted on, was not do-able. I'm pleased that work didn't get done. Mark did not show to us that he had the talent to improve on what's there. The last thing I want is less than what we already have in this job. We still have short cut pieces, bumps, buckles, dents, trim that looks like a sliding board at a amusement park, un-level siding in places, but we are done trying to work through the Home Depot. My health has had it with the stress. We are looking at other solutions.
Update 10-27-13 I was hopeful they managed to at least get the top siding piece firmly installed but even that was not successful on the Sept.16th attempt. They did come pick up the trash after corporate got involved (Finally). After the shock of them putting the new replacement shutters over un-repaired siding issues, we then noticed how they installed the shutters. Uneven shutter pins and not straight along two of the windows. Level and straight is not in there area of talent. We have decided to part ways with Home Depot. They either can't or won't send a talented crew. We've been numerous months trying to get a reasonable siding install. The crews; sometimes almost fix a issue but then also make something else worse or create a whole new issue.. We have asked for some siding supplies as out parting settlement. We will do the repairs ourselves or hire some one else. Please take warning when I say,
"We have HUGE buyers remorse". We would never hire Home Depot home services to do work on our home again. The solution is not great, but it allows us to move on and quit wasting time over and over again. It also reduce our stress we've had over this long process!
I was very happy that the project was completed so quickly. The roof was installed in only 7 days after the contract was signed.
I was very happy with the sub-contracter's work.
There is one comment that should be noted. Home Depot did not fully communicate all of the contractural inclusions to the sub-contractor. The sub-contractor however did supply the items with no problem.Had I not been watching, I would not have received everything per the contract.
