Auto Critic of Western PA

I was looking at buying a 1993 Range Rover Classic.  Not knowing a lot about this car, I hired The Auto Critic to check it out for me.
Not only did they meet me where the SUV was, but, he came with a full van of equipment to check out everything on the car!
He spent over an hour with me and the car, checking everything from the condition of the interior, to the electronics, to everything under the hood.  Basically, when you have them look at a car, you are having a well versed mechanic go over the car with a fine toothed comb.
In the end, Ed gave me a write up about the car with things that were in urgent need of maintenance all the way down to minor things like a broken vanity mirror.  Ed and I went over the report he wrote up and we went over the items that I had concerns with and he talked to me about problems HE was concerned with.  He even gave ballpark estimates on what each thing would cost as specific to that particular vehicle.  He gave me an honest appraisal of the vehicle I was looking at purchasing and left the final decision on purchasing it up to me.
It was exactly what I needed to make an informed decision.

We called Ed at 8:30 on a Saturday morning to look at a minivan that was just listed that we were interested in.  He was able to show up 2.5 hours later and inspect the minivan for us, no problem.
He did a great job.  He didn't find anything majorly wrong with the vehicle (thankfully), and was able to give me an impression of how the vehicle had been maintained and how the brake pads/tires/etc were wearing.
The best part was that the vehicle didn't even have to leave the dealer's lot!  Ed showed up, spent an hour looking at the vehicle, and gave me the report.
I intend to call Ed before any vehicle purchases I make in the future -- this was $90 well spent.

Very well. Called him, and he as able/willing to come out to inspect the car on short noctice. He came out with a van with all kinds of equipment to check out teh car. He did what seemed like a thorough inspection and very nicely and patiently explained (and showed) what he found. There were some issues, and dealer knocked some $ off teh price, but I felt like I went into it eyes open. Would definitely use this service again

Auto Critic has inspected 6 vehicles for me in the last 15 years and has saved me hundreds and in a few cases, thousands of dollars by exposing massive repairs which I would have never found without him. He is so thorough and knowledgeable that he has told me about an alternator going bad within 4 days, and, sure enough, it went out in 2 days. That was the most expensive item, but I replaced it the same day and never had any problem with anything else in the next year, putting on over 100,000 miles on the '94 Astro van. He also found $3,000 of repairs needed on a van selling for $2,000. He's great. His charge of $100.00 to do the inspection is well, well worth it.
