I e-mailed Tim this past September and learned that there are now quite a few options for permeable paving (to quote him, "What a difference a year makes!"). He came out to take a look at our driveway again and and made a great suggestion: that when we repave the driveway with the pervious asphalt, we also expand the entrance area to our house to create a walkway beside the driveway. I loved the idea. He provided us with a drawing and an estimate within a week. I wanted to be sure that I knew what materials he was planning on using, so I e-mailed me him with photos of stone walls, gravel, and flagstone (images I found on the web) so that I had a good sense of what he meant by "schist," "gravel," etc. (I'd learned from a past hardscaping project that communicating really well up front is important to me.) Tim was always responsive, good-humored, and accommodating of our requests for more info. or for changes to the plan. He came out again to stake out the dimensions of the new entrance area so that we could get a few for the size, invited us to his site to take a look at the materials he planned to use, and oriented his assistant on site as to what materials to show us. I felt confident moving ahead with the plan.
Within days of our signing the estimate, Tim called to schedule the work - for that week. We were ready and the work started on a Friday. The crew (three friendly and REALLY hard working men) worked through the week, with Tim on site every day (included the day the pavement contractors came, during which he made sure they understood what we'd talked about). We made two requests: that Tim bring up the step (we thought it was too low) and add more stepping stones than he originally planned. Tim agreed to this and made the adjustments, putting in more hours and absorbing some costs.
We are very happy with the result. Working with Tim was easy (he's serious about the work, but is cheerful and has a nice sense of humor) and we thought the crew was skilled, hard working, pleasant to be around, and considerate of our property.
