STONE MASONRY

Outstanding, expert, attentive work but very slow. Almost 1 year after we signed our contract,the work is still not complete. We still have 2 of their ladders.

This review will be short... only two sentences:

I contracted Stone Masonry to do work in my garage.

During that time my property was taken from that garage.

The work seemed fine but over the year, the concrete began to crumble and flake. We don't use any harsh chemicals in the winter. The lower flight of steps is decades old and has no crumbling or flaking. After repeated attempts to contact Stone with no response, we are now hiring another contractor to repair the steps.

I had to sue Stone and was awarded judgement in small claims court.  Stone paid half of the award and now I have to go after him for the balance.  DONN'T USE THIS GUY

Based on the location of the house, the property was prone to water runoff, water accumulating in a low spot of the driveway and puddling in front of the front entrance, with severe roof runoff causing moisture problems in the basement.  They evaluated the entire problem and gave us an estimate on redirecting the runoff around the house, using better gutters and piping attached to the downspouts, a French drain, and repairing a low spot in the middle of the driveway.  They dug out a portion of the driveway in front of the garage and installed beautiful pavers with a drain pipe in the middle, with a seamless transition into the remaining asphalt.  They coated the balance of the asphalt, countoured the soil so the water would flow more freely around the house, put in a French drain, added gutters, gutter guards, piping on the downspouts, and built a decorative masonry wall around a large white pine with new topsoil and mulch. Our water problem was solved!! The owner, Tom Stone, was superb, doing the estimate and some of the more complicated work himself.  His crew was also excellent.  They were all highly professional, responsive to our suggestions, courteous, efficient, great with suggestions on making the project look (and perform) better, and remained until the job was complete.We had a small problem with a gutter a few weeks later and Tom came back and 'tweaked' it without charge.We have used this contractor several times before, always were extremely satisfied, and would recommend him highly.

Everything went very well from start to finish. Weather was a problem for a day or two but cannot be helped. Stone Masonry actually was able to start the job before planned due to another customer delaying the start of their project. The workers showed up in a timely manner every day and often stayed longer than I thought they would to complete parts of the project. They were very meticulous and were very consciencious about cleaning up at the end of the day. They were very friendly and professional and always took time to answer any questions I had.

Because I had poor landscaping the year before, my dryer vent was now at ground level. To avoid rodents entering my house, Stone masonry moved my dryer vent to over the basement window well. While I had them come, I decided to have a plumber come in before Stone and move the outside hose shutoffs to the location that had been occupied by the dryer vent to make it more accessible. Stone repaired and neatened up the stucco and holes made during this revision. They also repaired several cracks and holes in my stucco. I was very happy that Stone Masonry could come in right after my plumber to patch, close, and seal the holes with stucco.

Called Tom Stone to give me an estimate for the work. He came within 2 days and provided a detailed estimate that I could turn over to the insurance company. He then sent me a contract to complete and we scheduled the work. Unfortunately, the work had to be postponed several times due to weather, but work has finally been completed.

They were the cheapest of three quotes that I received. So I was worried that the work would be less than perfect. The worker they assigned took his time, was very methodical and careful and laid the flagstones with precision and beauty. He was very receptive to any concerns or questions I had. He came back twice to make minor improvements that I hadn't noticed on what was to be their final day. There was no annoyance or attitude whatsoever, just a desire for us to be pleased with the work. I recommend them highly.
