The price that Chris Oloughlin, owner of Synergy Concrete Solutions, gave us was great. It was 1/2 what we had received from another contractor so we went with him. Synergy Concrete Solutions is a local franchise of a parent company called Concrete Technology Incorporated (frequently referred to as CTi). The job started off on the wrong foot when Chris wasn't showing up when he said he would and was showing up late when he did feel like coming. I say that because his excuse when he didn't come or was late always had to do with his son having a baseball game to attend. This excuse continued over the two weeks that we had Chris working at our house. We were willing to overlook the tardiness even though it was at times an inconvenience because my wife would wait around the house for him to come before running errands to discuss some detail of the project. The project took at least a week longer than expected because of the previously mentioned tardiness and no-shows. The work that Chris did complete is riddled with flaws. He, by his own admissions (once the job was started...wish I knew that before the job!) was learning as he went along as he had never done a pool patio like this before. The end product clearly shows that he really doesn't know how to use his tools properly and the products that he applies. There are sloppy cuts in the concrete, uneven paint color mixing in different sections of the patio, sloppy concrete edging, white ghosting under his sealant coat, etc.. When it came to the end of the job, we did make the mistake of paying Chris the balance due with the promise from him that he would return in a week or two to address the flaws (some of which I mentioned in this summary) that we felt were just going to drive us crazy if left unfixed. We were actually able to accept some of the flaws as it became rather overwhelming to demand that he fix everything. He was completely in agreement of the things that needed fixing and wrote them on the receipt that he gave us for final payment. Now, at this point I will take full credit for being the fool and not withholding some of his payment, but he did seem genuine and I'm afraid that I am a little over-trusting. Anyway, that was over a month and a half ago and since then, Chris has disappeared. We have left him repeated voice mails and emails and not once has Chris acknowledged any of them. I even sent him an email a few days before posting this review to see if we could come to a resolution before I laid out the complete story for all of his potential clients to read, but again, no response from Chris. To be clear, Chris did not finish the job that he was paid to complete, at the time of final payment, there was complete acknowledgement on his end that there was work outstanding, and now he refuses to return or acknowledge any of our communications. I strongly recommend that you do not employ Synergy Concrete Solutions or Chris to do any work unless you have an extremely low bar set for the quality, timeline, and completeness of the project. Please don't make the mistake that I made by trusting Chris Oloughlin. The quote that he will give you seems too low to pass up, but trust me, it is too good to be true. I would also never hire another Concrete Technology Incorporated (CTi) franchise company as it seems as if someone can acquire a franchise without really understanding how to apply the product that they sell. The Concrete Technology Incorporated product may be great, but if they license untrained and unprofessional people to represent them, then they are also culpable when things go wrong. I forgot to mention one thing. The caulking that he did around my pool is so poorly done that I now have to hire another contractor to rip out what Chris did and redo the entire thing.
Description of Work: Our pool patio was in very bad condition. Synergy Concrete Solutions which is owned and run by Chris Oloughlin was brought in to give us an estimate for fixing the patio. His quote was the best, so we went with him. He was responsible for acid washing the existing patio, leveling the surface, and applying a decorative/layered coat on the entire surface.
