We scheduled a chimney cleaning but Ed told us the chimney need to be repaired instead of cleaned. That was fine; it hadn't been used in years. He discussed the repair process, stayed for about 30 minutes and said he would send an estimate for the repair. He billed us $105 for the visit and didn't send the estimate until 2 1/2 months later, after several follow-up phone calls. In the meantime we contacted two other chimney repair companies who did not charge for their estimates. Ed's estimate was twice the cost of the other two estimates. We would not do business with him.

The installation of the fireplace insert went very well. We have been using the insert and have not had a problem with the unit. The biggest problem for us was scheduling to get the job done. Due to inclement weather and having an old, steep roof, we had to re-schedule the installation twice. Also, the first time the job had to be cancelled, I was not notified by the company and ended up wasting a morning at home.

Due to leaking chimney cap, floor surface beneath the firebox rotted and collapsed causing the fire box to fall back into the chimney. Working from the outside, he removed the siding, propped up the box, built a support beneath it and sealed up the opening. Before he left he built a little fire in it to make sure all was in order. I got 4 bids for the job. His references were all glowing. He was honest, efficient, very obviously knew what he was doing. Only negative, after he came to my house to look at the job, it took forever to get his estimate. I had to send 3 emails asking for it and I finally just figured he didn't want to do the job. But he did and I'm very glad.
