Roof Menders Inc

We called Ray Carson of Roof Menders to come out to do an estimate on replacing a flat roof on our two-car detached garage that is leaking. He came out with his foreman to take a look and told us that the roof is completely shot and will need to be replaced. He said he would have an estimate to us within the next couple of days. After one week of not hearing anything, I called to follow up and left a message with his office. He did not return my call. After waiting a few more days, I called my realtor (who had referred him to us) to let her know that we had not heard back from him so she gave him a call. Only after her call did he call me back and apologized for the delay and explained that he had been looking into some township code regulations which is why it was taking him some time and that he would have the estimate to me in a couple days. We never heard from him again. I find Ray's handling of our situation extremely unprofessional and very frustrating. He came highly recommended and we were most likely going to use him without getting any other estimates. Needless to say, our realtor will not be referring him to her clients anymore (this is not the only issue she's encountered with him recently).

Ray Carson and his crew came out to clean my gutters. The two crew guys got up on the roof and started cleaning out the gutters using a leaf-blower. I was home at the time, and watched the one crew guy on the back side of the house. He pronounced the gutter on the rear "clean," and descended the ladder. I asked him whether the downspout may have been clogged. "Yeah," he said, "could be." "Well," I said, "isn't that supposed to be part of this job -- checking the gutters AND the downspouts?" "Oh yeah," he replied. He got back up on the ladder and climbed back up, banging the downspout as he went up. Apparently, he was able to discern that it was not clogged by the sound it made when he tapped it. "It's cleared out." He gets back up on the roof, and proceeds to scoop handfuls of debris out of the junction where the downspout meets the gutter. He then leans over to an overhanging tree, and breaks off a branch and starts to ram it down the downspout to clear it. By this time, Ray had come around, and I tell him what's going on. "Do you have a hanger or something?" he asks. Do I have a hanger?? Does this guy have no tools to do his job?? Then to demonstrate that the gutter and downspout were now clear, the guys on the roof get a bucket of water and pour it along the shingles so it drains into the gutter. The water proceeds to overflow. Nothing is cleared. The guy digs with his hands a bit more, dumping the debris on my patio below. They pour another bucket of water, and this time the water drains properly. What would these guys have done if I hadn't been there watching??? The company is utterly inept, utterly useless. I cannot imagine that anything would have been done if I had not been home that day. I cannot say this enough -- avoid this contractor. For the record -- the gutters were cleared, but no gutters were adjusted, no endcaps resealed, no loose brackets were secured.
