Worst experience of my life. I hired Cook Plumbing to gut my old bathroom including removing wet bed plumbing. The demolition went okay. The old radiator was removed and replaced in another location. I was told that because of the new piping the floor needed to be raised. The subflooring was greenboard over upended 2 x 4s. Because the subflooring was so badly laid, the travertine tile floor began to crack almost immediately. I had chosen hand-fired Italian fields tile and designed an intricate border pattern consisting of a stack of 13 separate listellos. One of the listellos was a checkerboard pattern. They actually installed the checkerboard pattern with white next to white and black next to black. They said there were no arrows on the back telling them how to lay the tile. It was a checkerboard! Doesn't everyone know what a checkerboard looks like? I insisted that they rip it out and redo it. They fixed one row and not the other. When I came home to find that they had grouted over the tiles w/o fixing them, I fired them. I had another contractor finish the bathroom. I discovered then that the floor never needed to be raised. The new contractor explained that a pipe only had to be turned 90 degrees allowing it to lay parallel to the floor. (Imagine a suitcase handle upright and then turned on it's side). My floor is now in the same position it always was. The entire floor had to be redone with cement board and new travertine. The Italian field tile in the shower was completely installed incorrectly. There is a 3/4 inch gap in the tiles in the corner of the shower. Basically, to get the shower right, it will have to ripped out and redone. Several weeks after I fired them, the new plumbing behind the shower began to leak and had to be repaired. They also tried to install baseboard molding without removing the sink. They also severely damaged the back of my $1500 Cole and Company sink when installing. The ceiling below the bathroom was also scheduled for repair. When the floor was redone by the new contractor, he removed 100lbs of fill left behind during the demolition. If he hadn't removed it, it would have all fallen into the living room when they were repairing the ceiling.
Description of Work: Hired to gut and remodel a 1930's era bathroom.
