We had a significant gas leak in mid December and the gas company put in a temporary line that had to be permanently fixed in 10 days. I got multiple estimates, including from Mark Blackburn. Mark was professional, stated this is all they do and are very good at it and gave me an estimate over the phone. He stated the cost and what was included, which made sense to me. All other estimates I received were higher and the companies did not instill the confidence I felt from Mark. I selected Blackburn and was extremely pleased with all aspects. They scheduled a timely replacement, were able to use the existing gas line and not dig up my entire lawn, and were true to the cost (no unexpected costs or nickel and diming). The quality and service was excellent. Thanks Mark.

On the positive, they were able to do the work on short notice and the gas line replacement was fine. However, cleanup was sloppy, Dirt pilled up against the siding of my house and against the air conditioner. I had to call to have them return to seal up the wall penetration of the gas line. They also walked with muddy boots on several items in my basement and we were billed on the high end of the estimate.

Very well. I did have to wait two days before they could do the work, but it was worth the wait. Most other installers would have dug up my driveway to attach the new gas line to the house. He found a way to place the new meter in front of the stoop without disturbing the concrete driveway. It saved me a lot of money. Work was done in a day and they cleaned the area. I highly recommend them.

I can not express how happy I am with the service that I received from this company. Mark was very professional and compassionate in our time of need. He came and gave us a quote the same day that we called and was there the next day to complete the job. He was about to get our gas back on and the job done in 4 hours. His team was very professional and neat. They had to dig us my front yard and a small area on my porch but they placed everything back so that if you didn't know we had to have the line replace you would not know. I have recommended them to others and will continue to spread the word of how pleased I am with the service that I received and the service that they provided.

Blackburn had by far the lowest estimate and I was very pleased with the quick turnaround to replace my gas line.  It was shut off by the utility company due to the gas coming into the house from under a crawl space.  They had as minimal of an impact one expects when a gas line and meter has to be relocated and under 2 sidewalks and a retaining wall.  I will use them again if needed.

Columbia Gas shut off our gas without warning on a Sunday night. Mark responded to my call quickly, came out Monday morning and was able to give me a price and come out the next day. This was a complete lifesaver. Mark and his crew showed up promptly at 8:30 the next morning and dug out the old line, replaced it, and left everything looking better than they had found it. I really cannot recommend their work enough. Thanks, Mark! You saved us from going without hot water fora  week or more.

Kevin was wonderful. There was a leak in gas line. First he had to locate the pipe and rerouted the line so it wasn't under concrete and re connected to heater. He also adjusted the heater so it lite when it was supposed. The pool guy originally told me heater was broken and attempts were made to repair it. Just making the problem worse. Kevin couldn't have been more helpful and changed his schedule around to fit me in.

Extremely prompt, polite, and courteous. Called him in the morning after the gas company shut off gas service due to the leaking service line. Mr. Blackburn responded immediately to my message and said he would come that morning. He and his son arrived by 1030 and replaced the leaking riser by 1:00. I had my gas service back by 2:00. They were a pleasure to deal with.

Blackburn Gas Installations is a company you want to deal with for a really crappy situation like having a gas leak in the line running between the curb and your house. When I called Mark, he answered the phone. I called five or six other Angie's List, very highly rated contractors and not a single one bothered to answer the phone or call me back. Not only did he answer the phone, but he came out the very next day to give us a quote. We only had a 7 day window to get the work done before the gas company would shut off our gas completely, so we were very anxious to get the work done quickly.
Mark, the owner, is very, very nice. He's chatty like me, so we talked for a bit and you can tell he's just a nice guy. After looking at the depth of our yard and how long the line would need to be, he gave us a very honest quote which wasn't even 1/3 of what we were expecting (and dreading). I have one friend who was quoted $6000 for similar work! We were terrified by the prospect of having to spend $3000 or more for this and Mark really put us at ease with his quote.
Mark took care of calling all of the proper authorities and the gas company to come do all of the markings and set up the appointment for Columbia to come do their final inspection. We didn't have to worry about a thing. His crew arrived on the day he told us they would, right at 9:00, which I wasn't expecting on a day when the roads are covered in ice and there were numerous backups on all of the major highways.
The two guys worked hard in very cold, icy/rainy weather, took a quick lunch and finished up their work.
Unlike what we were expecting, only two holes were made, one at each end of the line (at the meter and in the yard). We didn't have to bust up the walkway to the house, we have no long trenches to fill in. They cleaned everything up so even though it looked like a mess while they were working because it's just a messy job, it looks good as new. A little sprinkling of grass seed on one hole and some mulch over the other and it will be as good as new.
Thank you and your team SO MUCH Mark for your honesty, fair pricing, kindness and hard work! You are really a lifesaver. My husband and I will be referring you to anyone we know who runs into gas line issues in the future.
For anyone considering other contractors, don't waste your time unless Mark tells you he's too swamped to take on new clients. This guy is THE guy to call and you will not find a better person to work with. You just won't!

All you single female homeowners, listen up! If you’re anything like I am, you cringe any time you have to acquire a contractor, or even take your car in for inspection because we are so much more susceptible to being ripped off. I’m especially wary because a “reputable” car dealership had me paying for unnecessary repairs at inspection time for about 4 years before I caught them red-handed, but that’s another story.

A couple of weeks ago a neighbor smelled natural gas, called Equitable Gas and it turned out that I had a leak in the piece of pipe that comes up out of the ground and into the meter. The gas guy immediately turned my gas off, and said he figured the cost of the repair to be between $200 and $600. I was somewhat relieved, although that is still a lot of money when you are trying to survive on unemployment. I asked the gas guy if he could recommend a contractor who wouldn’t try to rip me off because of my gender, and he said he wasn’t allowed to give names but that there were 3 reputable contractors whose last name started with the letter “B”. I tried Googling for gas line repair contractors in the Pittsburgh area that had company names that began with a “B”, but only found one. So I found 5 in the Pittsburgh area and made a list with the idea that I wanted at least 3 estimates.

Contractor 1 was too busy to come out, but gave me an estimate over the phone, which I was a little nervous about because I didn’t see how it could be very accurate without someone onsite. In addition, they wouldn’t be able to send someone out to do the work for two days. Their estimate range was $200 to $300 above the numbers the gas guy had given me.

Contractor 2 arrived within a couple of hours of my call and his estimate was DOUBLE what the Equitable gas guy’s high end was and significantly higher than Contractor #1. I was immediately suspicious, told him he was higher than Contractor #1 and said thanks but no thanks. Not surprisingly, he called back an hour later and said after further consideration he thought he could do the job for $400 less than his highest bid and oh by the way, he just HAPPENED to have a crew finishing up with a job and they could be here within an hour or so and get the job done that day. But of course I had to give him an answer within the hour, so that meant I wouldn’t have the chance to get any other estimates. I wasn’t comfortable with that, and I didn’t like the fact that he didn’t give me a reasonable estimate when he was here. I had a strong feeling he was trying to take advantage of me so I decided I would only use him is no one else could do it.

Contractor 3 promised to have someone show up in the afternoon, but they never showed.

Contractor 4 wasn’t answering his phone so I left a message, but he never called back.

Contractor 5 was too busy to even give me an estimate so they told me to call Mark Blackburn. I called Mark and he was at a job in the North Hills but promised to stop by as soon as he was finished. I called him back a little later in a bit of a panic because I didn’t know if I should wait for him to come or just give the job to one of the other contractors. He asked me what their bids were, and he said he couldn’t be sure but he thought he could do it for significantly less. He was very kind and said that if I couldn't wait for him he understood but that I would probably end up paying too much. I appreciated the time he took to help me reason through my options, and I decided to wait for him and I am SO glad I did. He showed up, gave me an estimate within 10 minutes, and his was 50% less than the highest bid, and $200 less than the lowest bid, and THAT contractor wouldn’t have been able to start the work for 2 days. Mark and his son started the work around 3:30 and finished at 8:00. He was happy to answer all of my questions and I actually enjoyed talking and joking with them. This was by far the best experience I’ve ever had with a contractor.

Save yourself the time and effort. Just call Mark and don't worry about getting multiple estimates. He won’t play games with the cost, and he’ll get there, get it done, and get out. He’s an honest and hard working man, and his son is following in his footsteps. I would absolutely use him again, and if anyone wants any additional details about my experience I’d be happy to talk to you.

TRUE PROFESSIONALS!!!!

I spent most of my career as a manager and tend to be very critical when reviewing any service. The first words that come to mind when reviewing Blackburn Gas Installations are professional and outstanding. A gas line leak in the dead of winter is a very stressful situation but this company put my mind at ease and corrected the problem quickly. I hope I never need them again but I am very happy to know they are out there.

What did I like about the companies I contacted. One, they were the only one willing to come out and give me an estimate in person and very professional. The price is in the budget and they were less than the other quotes I believe it's on top of your list. When they did come out, they had measured from my house to the street for budget, and the one guy who was that other guy called, it was a plumber in Manhole, I forgot his exact name and they were afraid to deal with Columbia Gas. They guaranteed me that the day they fixed my pipe, they would be able to get Columbia out here to inspect it and get it turned back on, I gathered 2 companies could not. They were able to show me a job they did in person also, that's Blackburn, the owner came out and that was me, genuine, like I said professional, I called them after the job, he was able to make time to come out, see what was needed, looked the job over carefully, he was able to give me an estimate, he didn't charge me extra if I wanted to move my meter inside or outside, it is right now inside but to move it outside, he didn't want to charge me extra like the other companies did want to do that. I'd recommend them to somebody. They might repair waterlines too, I think they do.

They were fast and professional. Everything was good. They did what I asked them to do. They did it quickly. There was no fuss. Actually, moving the water line to put it on the outside was extra and they had no problem doing it.

Blackburn Gas responded quickly to our gas leak which occured between the meter and the street. Mark was very detailed in what he was going to do and how he was going to do it. His price was complete which was great since there were no surprises at the end. His crew, who were very polite, arrived on time went to work diligiently, and finished quickly. They provided advice going forward and cleaned up after themselves. I would recommend them for your work.

Noticed a noise that sounded like running water in our house. We determined it was not leaking in our house, that it had to be somewhere between our water meter and our house. Called Equitable Homeworks(since we thought we had water line protection). Mark Blackburn was the plumber assigned by Equitable to work on our problem, when Mark arrived, it was determined by Equitable that our water line protection would not cover the leak Mark said he would look at the issue anyway, and give us his opinion with options. He came back the next day and hooked up a temporary water line from the meter, and set up an 811 1-call to get permission to dig. A few days later he was back. They dug where they thought the leak was and found it pretty quickly. They were able to fix the problem within a few hours, and we have not had any issues since. Recieved the bill in the mail a few days later, and we were pleased with the cost of the project and his willingness to allow us to pay it off in up to 3 payments. Thank you Mark and Matt for your honesty and professionalism.

Worked was completed without incident. As the holes for the "mole" were being dug, the crew dug out separately and saved my grass and topsoil. Once the job was complete they backfilled the holes and put the grass back in place.
