When we hired this company just to move some big pieces of furniture, I thought we were hiring moving professionals. the crew was one guy with experience and two high school/college kids. The lead guy had his cell phone in his pocket the whole time playing loud music. When we got to our new home, I asked the driver to take his time backing up our ~600 ft driveway because it was new and if he drove off the edge it would crack. Neither of the two guys got out of the truck to help guide him. He drove off the edge, cracked it and tore up our new sod. Moving in the furniture they put holes in the wall carrying in furniture and marked up the steps. They also put scratches in our dining room table and chairs. After they left I noticed our 55” LED TV was bent after they had charged me extra for wrapping the TV.
In my opinion, the three guys were careless and had no respect for our property. It seemed like they just wanted to get done. The next day, I called the owner and he came over to inspect the damage. I did not have a good interaction with the owner. His solution was that he would fix everything. After building a custom built home and the work his crew did moving us, I was not interested in having him do any work on our home. .
Fortunately, I bought insurance. I had to file a claim to repair the driveway, the holes in the wall, the scratches in the dining room table/chairs, and a new TV. The move cost around $1000, the claim I submitted and paid was for close to $4000.
"By definition, a customer is someone who purchases goods or services from someone in exchange for compensation. This is not Town & Country's customer. We would have liked him to be, but he chose not to be. We use language in our contract that is standard in the industry. The practice of the moving company to have to pack, move, and unpack boxed goods for the coverage to be honored is set forth by the American Moving and Storage Association, not by the whim of Town & Country Moving. The reason being, who can say when an item was damaged if the moving company did not pack it, move it, and unpack it. If another moving company decided to waive this protection, sure it is their rite, but it is not Town & Country's obligation to do the same. The clause that the potential customer contested was furnished to him ahead of time and required his signature. The potential customer chose not to use Town & Country. Therefore, this is not Town & Country's customer. So how does Town & Country suffer when it followed the approved practice of the AMSA and satisfied the moving needs of the complaintants four neighbors."
"There was a snow storm on the Friday and Saturday in question. Rather than just not show up on the day of the move, we rescheduled all work in advance of those days to not cause any of our customers an inconvenience. Other customers who were contacted in the same way appreciated this. Historically, our customers prefer to not have their goods moved in the rain and especially snow as moisture is not good for furniture finishes. Did other moving companies work that day? Maybe. Were they doing internal moves that would not expose their customers' goods to the elements? Quite possible Town & Country DEFINITELY did not schedule other "larger jobs" to replace this customers.."
