The contractor stated he had 27 years contracting experience. He gave us an estimate and appeared to be knowledgable about the work we wanted done. He was very accomodating with the requests he was given. He got started a few weeks later than expected, but some of that was due to the delay in the supply deliveries. The siding went on well with no problems. The porch work turned out nicely, but I had to explain how to put the decking down. We wanted the porch framed in as the rough end boards were too unfinished. The crew did not start laying the decking in the center of the porch working outward. Instead, they started on one end and there was a short cut piece on the opposite end that made the porch look lopsided. So we had them remove all the boards and center them so there was equal spacing on both ends. Then we had them frame the edges for a finished look. The windows were measured incorrectly. Instead of measuring the existing windows, the contractor measured the window framing. They had problems getting the windows in the hole as they were too tight. Once in, they were off center to the brick work. The left side of the windows had about a 3 inch space and the right side had about a half inch space. This also affected the window trim on the inside of the windows once that was put up, as there were gaps between the windows and the framing on the inside. New column posts were put under two porches. The vinyl trim that goes around the top and base of each post was never nailed down. The 6 top trim pieces started falling down the posts after a few weeks. My husband had to nail them up. A subcontractor that our contractor hired to put a new roof on our patio, put in screws that were too long and they came through our ceiling about one half inch. When told about it, they came back and cut them off, leaving brown burn marks on the ceiling, as well as when the nails hit the porch carpeting, it burned screw imprints in the beige carpeting. They stated if we bought the paint, they would paint the ceiling for free. I did not do this as I didn't feel we were responsible for purchasing paint when that wasn't in our remodel plans. He also cleaned up nicely afterward as we never found nails or debris in the driveway or yard. Overall most of the work was done okay. I felt for 27 years experience, it should have been done without my need for input, but I guess everyone has their own idea of how a project should be done.
Description of Work: The contractor built a small porch, put in all new windows, doors and siding on our home.
