When the owner (John Hockensmith) came down to do the estimate we discussed how we wanted it done. We requested they use mortar for between the bricks and he agreed this would be best. We discussed what we wanted it to look like. With the porch they decided (without our knowledge or consent to put brick pillars down the steps (which we said we did not want) Apparently they used cement and not mortar (We did not find this out until recently when we tried to get the problems repaired and they could not remove the bricks without destroying them). Not long after they did the work we found out that the front and both sides are not level and are totally out of proportion. The floor of the porch is not level and slopes down and we have a large puddle there when it rains. We also requested they put a sealer on the brick to prevent moisture from getting into the brick. They did not do this and now the bricks turn green. We have since been told that the company routinely uses second hand brick and not the high quality bricks we paid for. The mortar they used for the lower walls around our foundation to secure the stones they put up is now falling out and we have a leak in our basement as a result. The concete pavement they replaced cracked and started to crumble the first time our neighbor's kid used his scateboard (it was supposed to be okay to use at that time). The expansion joints they used for the pavement going back our alleyway have fallen out and we now have gaps in the concrete with nothing there. We called the owner (John Hockensmith down to discuss the problems and were assured they would take care of he problems (we are still waiting). Since we didn't get a response from him we called him down to do an estimate on what it would take to repair the problems and he looked at the pavement, the porch, and the foundation and he did some measurements to work up his estimate and he said that who ever did the work originally was an idiot an didn't know what they were doing. We said I am glad you agree since YOU DID THE WORK. He just shut his mouth and left and we haven't heard from him since. I highly recommend no one uses his services. I know I won't.
Description of Work: We contracted with this provider to build a new porch with roof in brick as well as redoing the stone work around the house. In addition we had the front pavement replaced.
