Since moving into my house in the summer of 2012, I've met my share of unreliable landscapers. I am SO happy we (eventually) found RM Outdoor Living. They are local and very responsive. They let me know what to expect, when to expect them, and will let you know if schedules change. They provide great advice about all things landscaping, and the prices are reasonable and up-front.
In the wintertime, they are a godsend as well with regular plowing. They are really on top of it, no matter what the season. There are some very unreliable landscapers around here that don't return phone calls, don't do work on schedule, and are genuinely unprofessional. I urge people to try H&M and see how good landscape service SHOULD be.

Robert's great. I don't have any complaints at all. My interaction with them was very good. The work turned out awesome and great. They do phenomenal work. They show up on time and they clean. Their punctuality is fine. I would absolutely use them in the future.

I made an appointment with the firm to discuss a patio extension project.  No one showed up for the appointment.  I phoned and the person I spoke to was very apologetic but said he had no record of the appointment.  He asked whether I wanted to reschedue and I told him no because I did not think this was a good way to start a business relationship.

I will be brief.    RM Outdoor Living did an outstanding job - well beyond my initial expectations ( which were high ).   Our driveway spans a creek with a  stone bridge whose foundation had been slowly eroding  since we purchased our house in 1981.   In addition, one of the buttresses had collapsed and the other was possibly on the verge of doing the same.   I became increasingly concerned and this year it deteriorated beyond what I was able to tolerate.   Robert ( owner of RMOL ) came out to give an estimate.    We discussed the situation and he formulated a plan which I considered sound and affordable, so I hired him to do the job.    Because of his tight schedule he could not begin for a few months.   Meanwhile, I had noticed a bad review on Angie's List and became a little concerned.  Thankfully, I didn't put too much credence in that review since the scope of jobs differed and RM's plan seemed to be what I needed ( and, quite frankly, I couldn't find anyone else willing or able to do the job in an affordable or  timely manner ).    To my surprise, the plan we discussed and the finished product seemed to differ in my favor.   I had hoped only for reinforcements so the bridge would not collapse.   What I got was not only substantial reinforcements but ones which seemed part of the original bridge.  They had  replaced the damaged buttress and reinforced the other.   The fix completely blended with the original structure.    I could not be more delighted.   In fact, I couldn't wait to show and tell everyone I knew about our new bridge.
After worrying all these years, I am now convinced that our bridge will outlast anything else on our property, conceivably even our house.   Thank you RM for a job well done.

The price above is only for the "stamped" concrete job since that is our concern at this point. The date above is approximately last time Robert bothered to get back to us. The job started in 2011 and problems started a few months later. He has been putting us off for a few years now. He was here working for several weeks into months on and off.  We needed the walls and columns built before we added a new deck. There were times that he didn't show up and the work took longer than expected. When we originally discussed the stamped concrete we looked at samples and colors together and agreed on both. When the concrete was being completed the color and texture wasn't what we discussed. Robert said that was the texture he thought that we wanted and once the concrete cured it would be the color that we wanted. Neither of these things were true. While working on the concrete there were some rainy days.  To my surprise he was putting down concrete in the rain when I came home. I questioned this because it obviously would ruin the concrete. He said it wasn't raining hard enough to make a difference. After the concrete cured the color still wasn't what we had wanted but Robert said he would have to rip everything back up and we would miss the remainder of the summer in our yard and his schedule was to packed he wouldn't be able to get to it for a long time which would hold up the contractor who was building the deck. We reluctantly let it go and kept the color .By the following spring their were long cracks through each block of concrete even under the part protected by the deck. The steps were cracking and actually crumbling along with the top of the concrete. We contacted Robert several times before he finally came out. He tried to blame it on winter(concrete lasts for years)and after we told him we had another concrete guy look at it who specifically said either it was done in the rain or not mixed properly(I know he worked in the rain because I questioned him about doing so)or perhaps both as bad as it was. He also tried to say that concrete isn't his thing and he shouldn't have gotten into trying it. He advertises concrete work and told us that is what he did. Now tried to back peddle..not our fault you did it wrong. He agreed and apologized and said he would correct it. He never came...we kept calling and still nothing. After a few years of ignoring us and delaying us he finally came out last spring(2014) and agreed to temporarily fix what he could but to re-do it he expected us to pay for the materials. We were shocked and after discussing he agreed to stand by his work. He was supposed to show up to correct and still hasn't. Now all of the concrete is literally crumbling..a slab of it is lifting and is completely uneven and we can't even walk on it it feels like sand under your feet. We are very concerned about the other work he has done. Take my word for it you may not know how bad of a job he actually did till a few months or a year later and he will not stand by his work no matter how much he tells you he will. he will just put you off. He will not even return our messages or calls and just left us with this incredible mess. Pics of our house and concrete are on his website showing the concrete work.I will include the pics of how it looks now. You won't believe it. The steps are crumbling where we are afraid to use them. There are concrete pieces everywhere and now is scratching the floors inside of the house as well.

We were negotiating an agreement of sale on a new house and needed an estimate for rebuilding the front porch and steps.  We spoke on the phone and I explained that we needed the estimate as part of our negotiations and inspections and that I had a deadline by which I needed the estimate. He said he could do it within the next couple of days, which was fine, and he would get the estimate to me before my deadline. We told the Sellers to expect him within two days.  He never showed up and never called to say he couldn't make it after all.  Not reliable at all !!!!

We called Robert McHale to get an estimate for this job.  He arrived on time and sat with us giving us some ideas that we hadn't thought of for the project.  Robert and his team of men arrived at our home on the scheduled date, and remained on the job through to completion.   Robert was very professional and courteous, as were his team.
They arrived with all of the equipment that they needed, including a port-o-potty.   They worked neatly and cleaned up each day at the end of the day.  The job was estimated to take about a week - the timeline was met!
The job looks exquisite!  Everyone in the neighborhood has commented!  I would highly recommend RM Outdoor Living

Everything was done on time and as scheduled. Attention to detail was above and beyond expectations. Great care was taken to avoid any damage to the pool fence, the pool and the surrounding lawn. Excess concrete was used to create accent items that we're not in the scope of work or the contract. We will definitely use RM Outdoor Living to replace our entry walk which will be our next outside hardscaping project.

The work was very professionally done. Robert and his team worked very neatly and completed the job well within the time frame they had indicated. It was obvious that they had a significant amount of experience in rebuilding similar retaining masonry walls

I was particularly impressed with the way in which they constructed a drainage system  in behind the wall the lack of which had most probably caused our old wall to begin to collapse.

At the end of the day we were extremely pleased with how the job turned out and would strongly recommend them to others

Experience was very good.  The team was professional and responsive to our questions and requests.    The project started on time and was completed on time despite several days of rain.   Robert, the owner of the company, is on-site and available for questions.
We plan on having the team return at the end of the summer for additional work.

This was the second time we used Robert McHale.  He rebuilt a stone chimney for us as well.  His calendar is busy, so it can take a while to get a project started, but it is worth the wait and he focuses on the job and is quick once he starts.

Last summer, during Irene, we discovered that we had a leak. A roof inspection revealed that the problem was the chimney, and I hired RM Outdoor Living to repoint it and repair the chimney cap. Due to the location of the chimney and the fact that the roof is slate, the job was quite challenging and it required the use of a boom truck. The price was very competitive and they went above and beyond to do the best job possible. The original contract asked for the chimney to be repointed from a certain point in the wall all the way to the top. Once the job was finished, Robert was not satisfied with how it looked and decided that the whole wall had to be repointed at no additional cost. The workers were very punctual, professional and left the site clean. Usually I do not enjoy having to deal with contractors, but this company made everything as easy as could be.
Ten months later I hired them again to build stone steps from the driveway to the front porch, where there used to be a planter. Robert found this beautiful stones and they did a great job laying them, it looks as as if they have been there all along from the time the house was built. I have gotten so many compliments and I'm very pleased with the result. I highly recommed this firm.
