I cannot say enough about Mark and Carl Petka in reference to their work and to their characters. These two gentlemen were kind, patient, and professional. They met with me several times before beginning the remodel of my kitchen to answer any questions I had and to ensure that they were absolutely positive about what I wanted. They began work on the exact day that they had estimated, and they were punctual and worked hard every single day for three weeks. They finished exactly on time and the kitchen is absolutely gorgeous! It’s even better than I thought it could have been and not one detail was overlooked. You wouldn’t expect that one of the most reasonably priced estimates could possibly produce the best work but, clearly, it can. When I told my friends that the Petkas had estimated that they would be able to completely remodel my kitchen in three weeks, nobody believed me. Other friends are completely flabbergasted when I tell them that I never had to try to track these guys down to get them to finish work - the mere fact that they showed up on time every day was, to them, unfathomable. Perhaps everyone has been so jaded by contractors who show up as they please and leave jobs unfinished for weeks at a time. To them, I would recommend Mark and Carl Petka.

Everything went very well. Mark and Carl did a wonderful job along with their tile contractor. They were always on time and did quality work. They started and finished the job on time which was very important us. The price was also reasonable. We only had one small issue that was quickly rectified. They kept us engaged throughout the job to ensure everything was to our liking. we would definitely hire them again.

If my wife and I could give this team an A+++ we would. From start to finsh, this father son team was punctual, enthusiastic, professional & neat. We have had major home renovations done before, but what made this experience special was the attention to detail & excellent communication. My wife and I never felt suprised, and were always fully aware of how the project was going, what the goals of the day/week were, and any challenges encountered. We felt completely comfortable trusting them to keep us updated on any items requiring attention, and to manage our expectations accordingly. Everyday they left the work site spotless, and were happy to debrief us whn convenient for our schedules. Project included gutting original bathroom, re-orienting and expanding the shower, knocking down & re-orienting non-load bearing walls, plumbing, venting, electrical, tilework, granite/marble, painting. We will definately re-hire this team again for our next major home project, and hope other angies list members will do too.

To say that working with Mark and Carl was a game changer is a gross understatement. From day 1, their communication, professionalism, craftsmanship, and cleanliness were second to none. They were on time, worked throughout the day, and even came back on Saturday to finish on time. I could not have been more pleased with their work and overall experience. A+

Petka Remodeling is the BEST!  They made our 1950 kitchen come into the 21st century!  Once we called them they returned our call that evening and were here the next day to give us their estimate.  They removed out old cabinets; installed the new ones.  They coordinated with the plumber and electrician so that they could move our appliances.  They told us were to go to buy our counter top and wells as the back splash.  They installed a new ceiling and crown molding as well as baseboards and quarter round.  They also prepared our walls for painting.  Carl and Mark were here each morning at 8:00AM and worked they entire day.  They had out entire kitchen completed in a week!  If we had known them beforehand we would never had purchased out cabinets without their input.  They are honest and do what they say they are going to do and finish the job when they say it will be done.  I am already looking forward to seeing them again next year to have them install some doors for us!

Excellent! Just one truly outstanding job. I'm a retired Navy Captain, and if I were writing up a fitness report on them, I would say "Outstanding in every respect!" I couldn't have been happier.

It went very well. They did an amazing job working with us through the design phase. This was all new to us and they were very patient and professional. They gave us suggestions and ideas which we hadn't previously considered. We have 2 dogs and were very pleased to see that the Petkas were dog friendly. They were very prompt each day, even with all of the snow. They went out of their way to keep the other areas of the house clean and free of dust during the remodeling. The whole project was completed on time and at the cost quoted to us. There were no surprises. The finished product was amazing. We were extremely happy with all the work. So much so that we have scheduled them to return to do further work in our home. We highly recommend Petka's Remodeling.

From the first time I contacted Petka's, both Carl and Mark were great! Very quick response time on emails and phone calls. Carl and Mark came out to the house and provided a free estimate for the job. Once we decided on Petka's, the work started within a week. Carl and Mark worked full 4 days installing new drywall and trim in what will be our first baby's bedroom. I would definitely recommend Petka's remodeling ( I have already told two work peers about their great work). Thanks

This was the second time we used Petka remodeling for major construction in our home (in 2010 they remodeled the kitchen, insulated the garage, added insulation to the attic, replaced the attic fan in 100 degree heat, and added flooring to the attic), As always, the Petkas brought the job in on schedule and on budget. That alone is worth it's weight in gold, as living in a house while major renovation is going on is never fun. Most contractors do NOT come when they say they will, will start a job then leave you hanging with everything half done while they start another job and often have and quot;change ordersand quot; meaning you pay more than the original estimate. The Petkas were neat, clean and professional, arriving by 8:30am despite the hour commute to get out to us and tidying up the work site each day before leaving.
Our dog Ranger is aging and a little testy. Rather than asking us to lock him up for the duration of construction(which we would gladly have done), Mark Petka won him over by bringing Ranger a biscuit each morning. Carl Petka kept us on schedule with reminder calls about counter top color and paint color before starting the job. Our construction occurred in two phases, about three weeks apart. Phase I was conversion of a tiny cluttered space into a functional office/drafting room that at least two people could use at one time without sitting on each other. At the same time, this room needed to have LOTS of storage space. (All that clutter has to go somewhere, right?) With the Petkas help, we designed a room with floor to ceiling cabinets on one side and a long countertop on the other, with cabinets above the countertop. The counter needed to be constructed of indestructible material, as my teen daughter is an aspiring artist and animator, and is also cyber-schooled. We chose Magenite (like Corian). The original color we selected for the drafting countertop was unavailable, so several telephone calls were required before the material could be ordered. However, since Carl had called us for the color choice well in advance of the construction start date, we had time to dither over a second color choice without pushing back the start date or delaying the project. Carl and Mark built the cabinets from scratch, and they are beautiful! As the job progressed (it took about two weeks) at times there were decisions that had to be made that we simply had not considered, such as whether we wanted adjustable or permanent shelving. The Petkas asked their questions in advance of the need for an answer, so that we had time to think about it before deciding without holding up the work. Because of their extensive experience in interior home renovation, the Petkas were able to make suggestions that significantly enhanced the appearance and functionality of the space, such as adding under-cabinet lighting and extra outlets. Although the Petkas themselves do basic electrical work (such as moving our thermostat from one side of the wall to the other, as they did for us) this required an electrician. However, no need to panic(OMG, where are we going to find an electrician on such short notice!), because their electrician came all the way out to Lincoln University when requested and completed the work in a timely manner so that general construction was not delayed. At the end of the project my husband and I could not believe the transformation in the room. The Petkas literally made something from nothing, and in two weeks solved storage and work space problems that had plagued us for over three years.
Next came the installation of hardwood floors in our kitchen and what had been and eating area and family room. Since we had delayed making the decision to proceed with this phase of the work, we had to wait a few weeks for the Petkas to have the time for our job in their schedule. This was just as well because it took us about three weeks to get the office completely set up and get ready for Phase II construction. The largest room on the main floor consisted of the kitchen and eating area with a linoleum floor and a carpeted family room area. Our goal was to convert this busy and cluttered room, (which looked very small with all that furniture and different flooring) into a single light, bright airy room that flowed from kitchen to eating space, inviting both relaxed family dinners and more formal dining. This would free the current formal dining room,( a fairly large and almost completely unused room) to become a comfortable family room, thus giving us functional living space throughout the first floor. (Space, the final frontier!) There were many challenges to achieving this goal. The first was matching the previously existing hardwood floor in the hallway and the office.. Another challenge was trimming the hardwood so it conformed to the irregular shape of the hearthstones. The final challenge was working around US and all our STUFF. Since the original floor was linoleum, the appliances were sitting on top of the linoleum, which had to be removed. In addition, we had a lot of furniture. Far more than could fit into the soon-to-be-family room, which already housed all the dining room furniture. We also have more chachka than a Hallmark store. Carl and Mark patiently moved things out of the way, things we did not move because we had looked at the stuff so long we literally didn't see it anymore! Meanwhile, our two cats and Ranger(the testy dog) supervised everything from underfoot. Part of this job required removal of a light fixture, moving a ceiling fan, and moving the switches that control the gas fireplace. Despite the fact that I forgot to call the electrician (!) he was able to accommodate us and came out to do the needed work in time for Carl and Mark to patch the holes in the ceiling and wall, again without delay in the construction schedule.
The Petkas used top quality materials and craftsmanship to create gorgeous cabinets with multiple adjustable shelves in the office. They were able to match our existing hardwood floors exactly so that transition from hallway to great room is seamless. The Petkas were able to create a perfect edge where the hardwood floor met the stone hearth (see photo)). If you want a quality product, delivered on time and on budget, hire the Petkas.

Carl and Mark are great. They completed the entire project in three weeks (exactly as promised). Every afternoon when I
came home they told me what they would be doing the next day, and it was always done. They are both personable and professional. Their work is of the highest quality. The kitchen they delivered was beautiful and functional.

They were very professional, on time, and worked a full day 5-6 days each week. We were very pleased when they completed the job several days earlier than expected. At the end of each day they cleaned and organized the space and their equipment. They consulted and asked for updates throughout and offered great suggestions. They are very friendly and have great personalities and it was easy having them in our home for several weeks.

Carl and Mark completely remodeled our kitchen - from demolition all the way through to a perfect paint job and finishing details. Not only did they help us envision what the space could be, but they gave us a detailed quote, stayed on budget, did extremely high quality work, and finished EARLY. All around, an absolutely fantastic job. A year later, I still think about them every time I walk into our fabulous kitchen! Great people - incredibly professional and skilled.

I chose Karl and Mark based on their past ratings on this website, their very competitive estimate, and the fact that they are a father and son team who perform all the work themselves. That last point is a huge difference relative to their competition -- and it was nice to know, well in advance, WHO would be showing up each day. I also liked the fact they are committed to finishing one project at a time, not running between jobs and leaving things unfinished for weeks on end.
My experience was exactly as promised. They showed up promptly each morning, worked a full day every day, and the quality of their work was very high (across all aspects of the project). The project did run longer than originally anticipated, but that was largely because of additional requirements I added when they arrived the first day. Overall, their estimates (time and money) were fairly accurate.
Bottom line: They are truly old school guys, and I would recommend them regardless of the size of your project. And I will certainly be giving them the chance to bid on my next projects as well.

Based upon previous good experience with Petka Remodeling I asked them to insulate and drywall my garage ceiling. My garage is located underneath my kitchen, so the work was complicated by the need to accommodate all the pluming and duct work feeding the kitchen. In spite of the cold, they completed the work on time and on budget. I am happy with the result and difference it has made in the warmth of my kitchen.

I called Petka remodeling based upon the recommendation of a coworker that had him remodel her kitchen. They are extremely responsive and accommodating of your schedule in discussion of the estimates. They were happy to answer any questions I had and discuss with me my options without exuding any pressure on me. They are very hard working and meticulous to assure that it is completed properly. The work was completed to my satisfaction per the promised schedule and agreed to price. I am very satisfied with the results.

from the first visit,to the end this was a very professional team.a lot of pride goes into what they do.they only do one job at a time so they start and finish on schedule.they worked at our place for a month, always on time and in touch with any questions.they offered some ideas, which we gladly incorporated.they left each day having cleaned out any debris.we truly felt we got more than expected and certainly our moneys worth.would we use them again? we have already contracted for more work,no need for us to seek bids on future projects, they will always be our go to people.
