Instead of the cable company running the cable straight outside and down the siding (ugly and likely to leak) I opted for "fishing" the wire inside the house through hidden wall spaces. They left a large enough pull space to add additional wires in the future with minimal additional effort. This allowed me the option to pull additional wires myself (further cost savings) or have them or another contractor come back and do the work for me.
The reason for the work was that the house is over 22 years old and has older coax "RG59" wire which does not work as well for the new digital cable devices as "RG6". The cable company told us to either replace the old wire, or they would come and drill out through the wall to drop the wire from the second floor to the basement (and charge us for it). Either way, our existing wiring was causing issues for adjacent homeowners, so it needed to be done. We elected to do only one bedroom upstairs, and I did all the downstairs connections myself (suspended ceiling in the basement is a blessing).
I asked for the additional Cat5 Ethernet wire to be pulled at the same time to allow for Gigabit Ethernet connection from our in-home network storage in the basement to a possible video streaming location in the upstairs bedroom. Wireless had worked before, but we noticed video getting jumpy when multiple people were using the wireless. A wired Ethernet connection avoids the wireless bottleneck, so this was a good investment in my opinion (and it only added a small fraction to the total cost of the job).
My only concern was the estimate process which was interrupted by other jobs at the company. After the initial inspection, the estimate was not emailed in the time specified. It took a few return calls to get the information needed and to convey the updates for payment method. But it all worked out as we expected in the end.
We were generally pleased with the work performed by Miller Electric and would recommend them to others in the community.
The gentleman who came to do the work was prompt, polite, efficient, and tidy. He explained the modes and features of the items he installed, and made sure to test them thoroughly before he left (including checking for vibration noise on the fan). He offered me the choice of keeping my old appliances or having him dispose of them for me.
All in all I was very pleased with the service I received.
scheduled to come to my house within a couple of days. He was
professional and fast. No problems. I'd use Miller Electric again.
Since then we have had them out to perform other minor electrical services such as install exterior lights, wire in a sump pump and repair a broken ceiling fan. I cannot find the receipts associated with these services but these items were done according to our needs and we have had no further problems with any of these items.
