First they did not have them then when I called back I was told vet
would call me shortly as the vet was on another call never called me
back when I called again prior to end of office hours was told I was on
the list to be called and still no call an hour after the office closed. I am considering going to a different Vet.
They did not inform me to keep up with regular check ups only periodically, I told them that he was acting strangely and it went ignored, this went on for a long time and because he was continuously there for other minor issues, I thought it was under control. First I was told to increase then I was told to decrease then he was getting very bizarre extremely hyper, he would not eat he would shy from his dish like there was a monster there. I called the vet again and again, and my regular vet many times unavailable so I get this same kid vet Dr Shin, the one who prescribed the steroid recommended by Dr Lane, and she was now getting annoyed with my concerns as was Dr Lane it was as though I was making up the symptoms. Instead of being concerned and telling me to come in and see why he was getting like this maybe do tests and see what else might be happening Dr Shin gets on the phone real rude says "what do you want" like I am taking up her precious time, I did not even want to talk to this neophyte in the first place!!! She tells me that that dog is just acting up like a 2 year old child because he is spoiled and I give into him when ever he wants something and I run every time he acts up. I was so upset by this girls lack of concern and boredom by my terrible ordeal, that I wrote to Dr King the owner hoping to get some assistance and to inform him that as a customer of his for over ten years that I was really disappointed an hurt by this nasty person and horrified that I was left out in the cold with my pet that was obviously in some kind of distress!! He ignored me like I was nothing, had my regular vet call me and apologies for this rude girl.
I decided to take my dog to another local vet it turned out that the dog had renal failure and major liver issues possibly brought on by the drugs they can't say for sure but it was never monitored properly. They fact is my dog could not eat got a horrible fever and had to be put down. He went very fast after all of this started my heart is breaking they where so cold and uncaring they did flinch to leave me in the dust with my little dog so sick. Funny part is I had friends warn me about Steinbach and I did not listen
Beware of the continuous changes in vets the constant flow of right out of vet school jerks, care you get in that place coupled with the absence of the owner it is a recipe for disaster for your dogs and cats :(
When I was recommended to Steinbach, I was very excited because by the time that I get off of work on Fridays and drive to Philadelphia, most kennels and animal that are closed for the weekend. And this place was open late nights and on weekends. And because it wasn't that there was no question that they could properly administer my dog’s medications.
I used Steinbach on three different occasions to board my dogs. The first time that I use them I had to go away for 10 days with my parents so they could visit family. The staff was very personable when I checked my dogs in dnd were very thorough about making sure they had all the necessary documentation and information, and that I understood exactly what was going on with my dogs. When the kennel attendant came to get my dogs I asked him how often they will be walked as my dogs are used to a pretty rigorous exercise routine. The response was I'm not sure usually it's whenever we have time. This bothered me a great deal but I didn't think it was a big deal. When I retrieved my dogs they were washed as part of a complementary cleaning from the kennel. I was relatively happy with the experience. When I got home I realized that they had handed me back the insulated bag that was supposed to contain my pets’ medications but it did not have her medication in it. Immediately the next day I called them to inform them that my dog’s medication was not returned to me and that I was out of town and I would not be back for a little while. They assured me they would hold onto my dog’s meds for me until I got back into town. When I came there they could not find her medication at all. I wasn’t surprised since it had been quite a while before I was able to return, but they did assured me that I would be able to have the medication replaced. I called on numerous occasions to ask about how to replace the lost medication
afterward that, and was told I would get a call back about it when the person who handles those types of problems was in, but it never happened. I was still okay with the overall experience there and didn’t have a problem with coming back a second time several months later. I made sure that the staff understood my concern about losing medication and they were very diligent about making sure it was returned this time. I was extremely happy on that occasion with my experience with the animal hospital.
However on the third occasion that I use Steinbach Veterinary Hospital, I had a very different experience. When I checked in my dogs I had the same good experience with the staff and I felt very comfortable leaving them there for the weekend, especially after a much better experience the last time I had gone. I had a particularly hard time getting my family situated for the time that I would be gone, and traffic trying to leave Philadelphia was awful. Thankfully, some of the Steinbach staff had stayed for an additional 45 minutes after they closed just so that I could pick up my dogs. I was very very grateful to them for that.
The problem came when I had arrived and my dogs were returned to me. The bill was almost 3 times what it was supposed to have been. I was so shocked. When I asked why the bill was so high, they said that my dog's vaccinations were out of date and they had to vaccinate them. When I saw the bill, they had not only vaccinated my dogs with vaccinations that they had already received by their regular vet, they also charged me for the doctors exam, testing for parasites, disposal of the hazardous waste, and bathing both dogs, which is supposed to be a complementary service. I was absolutely shocked since I generally keep on top of my dogs medical records especially with one being a diabetic. I knew that one of my dog's needed to be revaccinated soon
and had both of them to their regular vet that and their wellness exam a few days earlier. I didn’t think to bring the new records because, I thought they were still current for the next week or two. I didn’t realize I was mistaken about the dates those vaccines were due. I informed the staff that my dogs were already up to date on their vaccinations as per the boarding agreement for their
facility. I had also informed them that I had not asked for any additional services and that I was under the impression that the bath they got after boarding was a complementary service. The staff had responded by saying they would not have given them any of those services and vaccinations without my concent, but when I checked in, no one had made mention of this issue and I had certainly not asked for any additional grooming services. I was also upset that no one called and asked me if any of this was okay. They insisted that they talked to me about this when my dogs were checked in and that they had tape they could review to clear this up. The staff assured me that I could call the next day and speak to the office manager and/or one of the vets and figure out what had happened. I left with my dogs, still very upset, but confident that this was a simple misunderstanding and could be easily cleared up, especially after hearing there was a tape of our check in.
The following day I called the office and as soon as I was able. The office manager told me she was just reviewing the tape from the day that I checked in and that she could not hear the staff member ask me whether I wanted the grooming services and didn’t hear any mention of the vaccinations or vaccination records. She also said she couldn’t hear anything I said at all. I told her that were up to date and I hadn’t brought new records because I thought that they were still good from their previous vaccinations on the records they had. I also wanted to know why I was not notified prior to all of the services rendered to my dogs and that I had no idea that any of this had gone on until I went to pick up my dogs. At first the office manager was fairly nice but as the conversation continued and I was pointing out more and more problems with the bill, she began losing her patience and so was I. I told the
office manager that the fact of the matter was I was very limited on funds, and had I been notified of the problem with their records, I would have retrieved my dogs and made arrangements with friends or someone else for the next few days and that there was no possibility that I wouldn’t have had any of that done at their facility one way or another because they were more expensive than
my regular vet. She said she was going to talk to the vet about refunding and that she suggested that I just be quiet before she says something that some of the vaccines that was not needed for boarding (Lyme’s vaccine) and possibly the test since they had already been treated for the disease in the last year, but that the other vaccines were absolutely necessary for boarding. Losing my patience at that point, I pointed out how often those vaccinations were
supposed to be given and that if their policy differed from the standard revaccination
schedule prescribed by other veterinarians they should make mention of it in
there boarding agreement. At that point she told me that she didn’t want to
Champion my problem anymore and that “I should take what I can get and be quiet
before she says something she is going to regret and might get nothing back”. I
was extremely angry and insulted at this point. I told her that if I wasn’t refunded
I would take this to small claims court, to which she responded ?
We've been very happy with the care our pets have gotten here and would definitely recommend them.
