CERTAINTEED CORP

Purchased a new roof and the installer used CertainTeed dimensional shingles, 30 year guarantee. Only 7 years later and every shingle is cracked. The entire integrity of my roof is now gone. I put a claim in with CertainTeed and was denied stating that the only problem with my roof was the "decorative portion". Even if that was true, and I was not getting water leaks all over my house, I DID NOT PAY FOR A FAULTY "DECORATIVE PORTION". CertainTeed is not honoring any warranty stating it's only the appearance of the roof in question. I have 3 separate quotes right now from separate independent roofers, all of them have stated the roof shingle is faulty, and needs to be replaced. CertainTeed claimed that the roofers ?just want to get a job?. In the meantime, the bills are racking up and it?s going to cost me another 5K to fix this and I have no warranty assistance. Stay away from CertainTeed. Look at competitors.

We contacted Certainteed and they asked us to send in a sample of the shingles as well as paperwork, the reroof estimate and any pictures we had and so we did. We received correspondence from Certainteed that they had tested the shingle samples we sent and that the shingles do not threaten the integrity of the roof. We spoke with Mr. Hammerstone about this correspondence and explained to him that one of their approved contractors had come out and inspected the roof and told us the shingles were defective and we would need a new roof. We are confused because the information is conflicting from both sides. Mr. Hammerstone stuck to his contention that nothing was wrong with the shingles and extended our warranty for five years.
