The Process up to Install:
I called up for an estimate to replace my windows in August and within a few days they came out. I was told I would get an estimate in 2 days. After four passed and I emailed them to see why I hadn't heard from them, I got scolded for not being patient, because and quot;these things take timeand quot;. I let this slide, because the price they gave me was very good. So good that I was able to replace all four windows, despite thinking that there was no way I could afford to do so. I signed the contract, sent in my downpayment...and didn't hear from them for something like 13 days. Given that the contract stated they had a month to install from the contract date, I lost patience and began to call to have measurements taken. The process was supposed to be sign contract-have precise measurements taken-order the windows (their responsibility)-and then once the windows come in, schedule the installation. Now by the time I heard back from them, after I called and left two messages (after over 2 weeks of hearing nothing from them) half of the allotted time had gone by. When I called, I spoke to one of the most rude women I have ever had the misfortune of speaking to.
I always start conversations with and quot;Hello! How are you?and quot; the response I got was and quot; What do you want?and quot;, in a snippy tone, without any regard for the fact that they didn't know who I was, or why I was calling...since I hadn't said anything beyond and quot; How are youand quot; yet. I complained about this immediately when passed to another individual but as every time I called I got this treatment, it seems to have fallen on deaf ears.
Now, after leaving two messages I called again and finally got to speak to someone who I needed to...his response was and quot;Oh I was just about to call youand quot;, and then he scheduled the measurement process. The measurement process took under 10 minutes and should not have taken as long as it did to take place. Then further waiting and no returned calls before I finally got a hold of someone about whether or not the windows had come in. I was told I'd be informed when they did so we could schedule an install (I was apparently the only one concerned about staying within the contract timeline). I was not called that day, but I finally got to speak to someone to schedule the install. Phew, it was going to happen within the timeline. My concern, for those of you wondering what the big deal is about the timeline was twofold: if the contract was broken, the price could in theory be raised, even though I was not the one in violation, secondly...it was getting cold out and gaping holes in the side of my house wasn't an ideal start to true fall temperatures.
The Install:
Despite the trouble I had getting the guys to my home, once they were there the process could not have been better. They were on time, and did (as far as I can tell) a fantastic job. They were even respectful of my inconvenient request that no shoes be worn in the house. The windows were in pretty bad shape and I imagine it was not a simple job. If I were forced to complain about this part of the process, they did not clean up sawdust on the inside of the house (limited to the kitchen window) and two of the windows need to have touch up paint and filled in chunks of plaster. I'm not wildly upset about this as the house did not come in great shape and I have to fix everything anyway.
Afterwards:
I noticed a draft coming from one of the windows just before hurricane Sandy hit our area. I called to report this concern. Needless to say getting a hold of someone was again very difficult. I finally got someone to come and take a look at the window, the week after Sandy hit (luckily no damage for me). I was told that there was nothing wrong with the install so it must be a problem with the window itself, they were going to contact the company who made the window and get back in touch with me. The getting back in touch with me part, never happened. I, quite frankly, have given up trying to contact them about this. It's not worth the frustration on my part anymore.
In summary: The work that was done seems to be quality work. The customer service is lacking. My decision to say that I would not use the company again is based off of the hassle of the process and the rude answering staff. If I could just have the work done, without talking to the staff I would probably use them again...but as that's not possible, I'll be looking elsewhere for future needs.
I called Blakeslee Home Improvement, and Robert Valenti wasted no time in coming out on 8/8/2012. He investigated the problem, and informed me that the roof was finished. The original company who did the installation of the Sunroom never bothered to put sheeting or roofing tiles on the roof, also never bothered to connect the downspout from the house to the Sunroom. They just took advantage of my elderly parents, and ran with the money.
He informed me of their heavy schedule, but would fit us in. He did, within a few weeks he and his crew were out to repair the roof that another company never wasted their time to finish. It's looks wonderful, they even matched the tiles to the roof of the house.
This company is AWESOME. If you want good / great/ excellant work done, give them a call.
