Manicures/Nails
The owner at this salon has so much to be desired. She doesn't understand customer service and the coupon program she'd entered into and will argue when the print clearly states the details. When asked details about body scrubs, she is vague and then you find out they are extremely expensive when you push and push for the pricing - double what other salons in the valley charge. I had a pedicare with a girlfriend there, and the owner berated the technician for something she thought she did wrong in front of us. She would not listen to the technician's explanation which sounded plausible. It was rather upsetting to us all.
When her nail technician didn't show up the next manicure appointment she attempted to do the manicure herself. I would rather have come back another day, if I'd known in advance that she knew nothing about how to cure the nails with the UV machine. She kept complaining she was not trained, but could "figure it out", resulting in all ten nails having wrinkled smeared polish. She kept saying, "Doesn't this look nice?" over and over, as if to convince me this horrible job was okay. She wasted 2 hours of my time actually doing them over just as sloppily as the first time. Instead of the usual nail dips to wash and clean the nails, she told me to use the bathroom sink, where there weren't even paper towels! It was bizzarre and the most horrid experience I'd ever had. It required a return visit to complete them the second time, and they were done over by a professionally trained technician, Lisette.
Since I had purchased several deals, I returned for a dual massage with one of my friends to be done with two massage therapists. You might wonder why I returned there, well, it was convenient for my friend who worked nearby and we'd planned on this after not having seen each other in a long time. I had made a strict request that the owner was NOT to be one of them, and I was assured by receptionist/manager the owner would not be involved. Not so....
My therapist again was a complete gentleman in every way, doing everything to make me feel comfortable and relaxed, knowing how the owner acted the last time. But again problems because the owner kept interfering and making agitating comments. She actually took over my friend's massage w/o notice, burst into the room while we were still undressing and started barking at us because we did not remove our bras! Over and over, she repeated herself, "You can't have a massage with your bras on! How can I massage you properly with your bra on!" I found this behavior to be extremely unprofessional and rude, not to mention removed all sense of relaxation and healing potential. My friend was very self-conscious about her body since the birth of her children caused her breasts to sag; she did not want to strip naked in front of me or anyone. I've had numerous massages in the past, and massage therapists simply unhook the bra when one is lying face down, and have never even said a word about removing the bra.
My therapist offered us the standard complimentary glass of wine they gave with the other services prior to starting the massage; my friend wanted the same plus a glass of water. The owner began screeching loudly for a full on verbal attack, "What do you mean you want something to drink???? How can you possibly drink when you are lying down??? You can't drink while having a massage!!" My therapist told her that we were grown women, and could drink what we wanted, when we wanted, and that she needed to stop talking. It got SO bad, that my therapist had to physically push her out the doorway to remove her from the room to get her to stop attacking us verbally. I've had massages at at least 8 other establishments in the valley before and since these horrible experiences at Spa Soleil. They were all wonderful, the therapists caring and conscientious. I told them of my experiences here. Each one of them had already known about her personality problems because they quit working there or friends in the business had told them. I learned a great deal about getting references now prior to purchasing Double-Take\Groupon deals. I wish I had contacted Double-Take Deals after the first bad experience, for they would certainly had refunded my money. How in the world could someone imagine someone in a spa service business could behave this badly, but I have several witnesses. Sadly, however, this owner has learned how to get reviews removed or filtered out from other review sites such as Yelp! I'm hoping this will not be the case here on Angie's List.
Additionally, I learned from two of the employees that when she offers a Double-Take Deal, she takes the "discount" out of the technician's pay, leaving them with near to nothing earned except the tip, which often is small because of her rude interactions. Meanwhile, the owner collects her full value. Appalling! She decided to run the ad, the discount should be taken out of her profit, not the person actually doing the work.
