Tim is the consummate professional. He's very thorough in his inspection, and he writes clear reports with excellent pictures. His report on the termite damage was much better than that done by our original inspector. He explained everything he found so I felt like I had a good picture of what needed to be done. When he returned, my contractor was so impressed with him that he took his contact information to refer him to future customers who needed engineering reports.

Tim did an excellent job with my home and pest inspection. He was quick to respond to my inquiry and the inspection was scheduled within a few days. On the day of inspection he was well prepared and performed a detailed and thorough inspection. He answered all of my questions and offered several helpful tips about my new home. The report was prepared and delivered within a few days and was extensive. Everything in the report was laid out very clearly with photo evidence. I would hire Tim again and recommend him for home inspections.

I would like to strongly recommend Tim Niles. Mr. Niles did a wonderful job. He came to the house, did a detailed review, spent the time to patiently answer all my questions and presented me with several options to repair the damage. He also did a survey of the rest of the home to be sure I wasn't overlooking any other problem. In just a few days in provided me with very detail drawings on the repairs needed. Tim responded to all the questions I had and when I took to my building inspector who agreed fully with Tim's plans. From his drawings I was able to purchase all the materials I needed and make the repairs.

We purchased our first house about 5 months ago. We recently started to notice cracking in the ceilings of almost every room. There was also previous cracking to sections of the exterior brick. Being brand new homeowners of an 87 year old house, we didn't know if these things combined were something to be concerned about or not. Having of course first turned to the internet, the thoughts there ranged from it being nothing to worry about to fears that it could mean a structural failure. To put our minds at ease, we called Nelis Inspections. From the first phone call, Tim was incredibly professional and patient. He was also incredibly responsive and came out the next day to conduct the structural assessment. He walked through the house with us, listened to our concerns, and answered our questions. He then took some time on his own to go through and take measurements. Ultimately, he felt that the ceiling cracks were completely normal seasonal cracking, not unusual for a house its age. He recommended some cosmetic fixes if the cracks were aesthetically bothersome. We also had him take a look at an interior wall we had some concerns about. After we ripped out the carpet, we noticed a sizeable gap between the wall (bowing out) and the floor. He did express some concern with this and made appropriate recommendations to correct the issue. Overall, we were completely satisfied with Tim's work, explanations, and the report he emailed the following day (complete with pictures). For $300, it was absolutely worth the peace of mind we received in return and we highly recommend Nelis Inspections. To conclude, had we known there was such a thing as a "structural engineer/home inspector" combination, as Tim is, we would have gone that route from the beginning - especially with purchasing and older home.

Tim was a fantastic home inspector for us.  We found him through his website while looking to buy a home in Pittsburgh.  We were worried the home might have had some minor foundation issues, so we hired him, since he's both a home inspector and a structural engineer.  It just made more sense than hiring two different people, and since he was able to do both at the same time, it saved us time and money.  He gave us two reports, a regular home inspection report and an engineers report. Both were easy to read, very thorough, and clearly laid out the issues with the home and made recommendations on how to fix them. I would absolutely recommend him to anyone buying a home in the Pittsburgh area, particularly if you're worried it might have structural issues.
