After calling Ed to quote the excavation of a retaining wall trench and hauling away of old retaining wall timber and dirt he visited my home promptly within a few days and gave me the best quote. He also quoted building the entire wall (without asking) for a good price compared to other bids. Ed quoted separate prices for the excavation and to build the retaining wall out of stone block. We agreed that these would be two separate job-quotes. Ed said he could work on this the next day because he was slow at the time. I approved the excavation work and said I would consider the wall quote and promised to call him the next day with an answer. I called Ed late the following day and said I was interested in his proposal, but would like some references on previous walls he has built. He had none in my area, but said he would give me some in Washington County. We had an appointment to meet at 7PM the day he performed the excavation work, to inspect his work and discuss his proposal to build a new wall. Unfortunately I had to cancel due to a medical problem and ended up in the hospital for 4 days. I called Ed 45 minutes before the appointment to cancel and said that I would leave a check for the completed excavation work left in the doorway. The excavation work was very satisfactory. I have been leaving messages for two weeks to move forward, but have yet to have a return call. Not very professional and has proven unreliable for my purposes. I have moved on.
