Dan, the owner of the company came to review gutters at my townhome.  His estimation was that the gutters were undersized and some needed to be added for excessive water flow from the roof.  I think his diagnosis was a good one.  The work was done and the problem was corrected.  I, then, this year, asked him to visit another property, since he had also installed gutters here.  The snow storm from last year had bent the gutters in several places and they needed to be bent back.  I mentioned the possibility of installing ice shields and he agreed.  He also discussed the fact that shingles could be damaged in the ice shield installation and, therefore, other replacement shingles should be ordered.  Since the shingles were installed in 2001, he said we would have to find something that was a close match.  However, he said, that since my home was large, it couldn't be perfect, so not to worry about it.  I found this comment an issue.  It was a problem, since the first thing that would catch your eye when you looked at the home, was the fact that singles had been replaced sporadically on the roof and they did not match.  This comment changed my attitude toward this company profusely.  In fact, I then closely examined the job he had done on this home and realized that he cut costs in the following way.  A small run of gutter which was approximately 20 feet long had been pieced.  Also, a downspout on one side of the building was not functioning properly, since the stucco behind it was soaked after a rain.  Upon further examination, I found water leaking out of a downspout at a seam where sealant had been applied, which was obviously not functioning properly.  I called Dan a few days after our meeting and left a phone message that I had changed my mind on the ice shields, however, I still needed an estimate on correcting the bent gutters,etc.  It has been a total of 10 working days since my call and he has not returned the call.  I suspect when he realized the job was not large enough, he put me at the end of his priorities,.  I am a realtor and referrals is my business.  Not.
