After several weeks of calling for an estimate for my driveway and parking pad , Charlie finally came out on 4/17/23. Great estimate, friendly, lots of good service promised. Contract signed and sent in. I was told I world get a phone call the third week in May so I could move trailers and camper out of the way. No call ever came. It is now the second week in June, still no call. I have placed 10 calls to a business phone and left messages each time. I have even called a "cell phone" number and left messages, no return calls. My concern was to get an estimated time frame when the work would be done as I travel and needed to move vehicles around. NO RETURN CALLS at all. If they don't want to do a job, at least have the courtesy and professionalism to make a 2 minute return call to a potential customer. Not happy at all and would not recommend them

Everything went great and they did a great job. Their men were very nice and were professional. They in stalled the plastic pipe like I wanted and tamped the 2A modified stone down. Rolled everything down before paving. The driveway looks great and did a little extra in front of my mailbox for me. Cleaned up pretty well. Tom Hick was very nice!

It’s looks great. They were here at the time they stated. Started right away and kept at it until it was done. They checked with me every step of the way to make sure it was to my liking. I am very happy with the results. My driveway is now back to its original size it was 30 years ago. Thank you Hicks.

We have an extremely long & steep winding driveway that hadn't been sealed for quite a while. To say that Hicks Paving did a good job for us would've be an understatement -- everything about their customer communication and actual workmanship was truly outstanding! When we asked for an estimate, I heard from Charlie Hicks within a few days. We then had to wait for a few weeks due to unusually wet weather. When we finally encountered a semi-dry spell, they immediately gave us a date and time -- and they then arrived exactly when they said they would. Almost to the minute. How often does that happen when you hire a contractor? Hardly ever. Their 3-man crew then carefully prepped the driveway. Blew off all leaves and other debris. Edged a few areas where mulch and grass had encroached. Then sprayed the entire driveway, several turn-around areas, and even the narrow strip of asphalt in front of our mailbox, with a heavy coat of sealcoating oil. We have several stone walls adjacent to our driveway, and they were extremely careful to not get any of the sealcoating on any of our stonework -- nor on any of concrete strips where our garages met our driveway. There was no need for any cleanup after they were done. About 2 days later everything was dry to the touch, and it looked like we had just installed a "brand new" driveway. Yeah, Hicks Paving's sealcoating job actually looked that good! We've lived in this house for about twenty-five years, and over that time we've had our driveway sealcoated at least 6 times. But the last job by Hicks Paving was, by far, the best sealcoating job that we've ever encountered -- and they were also a pleasure to work with.

In the course of preparing my driveway the company was securing other work in the neighborhood. The were able to get a driveway across from my home. They started that driveway before mine was finished. Because of that the company ran out of product and a portion of my driveway had to be patched. It looks patched and sloppy. Mud marks and workers foot prints are evident throughout the driveway and are embedded in the driveway. Needless to say I am very dissatisfied with their work.

Tom and his team were very professional during the initial meeting and during the paving work.  I appreciate them clearing the fill they removed to level the driveway...not much remained when they finished the work except a smooth driveway.  We are very happy with the result.

They only critical feedback is the number of calls it took to schedule a meeting, which I found from other paving contractors, as well.  I fully understood it was the end of the season and I'm sure all were very busy.

In the end, we are very excited for our new driveway and would use Hick's Paving in the future.

1. It took a day or so for them to return my call.
2. It took a few days until someone came to give me an estimate. (I called ~9 contractors and I managed to get a total of three quotes ranging from $12,900 to $17,500)
3. I was told I had received a favorable price because there was another sizable job close by and they would try to couple my job with the other one (in regards to timing). Their price was the lowest.
4.The son (Charlie) was the person who showed up to give me the quote. I'll admit, he was very nice, but he seemed like he was selling it a bit and since he was on the younger side, I was a little apprehensive. He sounded like he knew what he was talking about, but contractors saying one thing and doing something ?less? when it came time to do the actual work have burned me in the past. I had some fear that might happen in this case, as well. (it sounded a little too good)
5. I selected them to do the work. When I tried to get in contact with them to discus scheduling, it took a couple calls. The desire to couple my job with another job didn't quite work out as planned, not surprisingly. Some circumstances are out of their control... After a week of bad weather, they showed up 1.5 weeks later than originally planned. (again, under the circumstances, I didn't think that was bad.)
6.The night before the work was to be performed, Charlie showed up to discuss my expectations/details for the scope of work. The project was a little tricky since the parking area in front of the garage slopes towards the garage and parts of the driveway had a bad pitch that needed to be fixed.
7. On the day of the work, a large crew showed up with a surprising amount of relatively new equipment. They were very eager to make sure our needs were met and that we would be happy with the outcome. Again, in the past other contractors not delivering on their promises have disappointed me. Being the low bidder, I feared they would skimp on the stone, skimp on the asphalt and/or not do a good job with the grading. I was more than pleasantly surprised. They spent a significant amount of time making sure the grading was perfect so the water would drain away from my garage, and in one section of the driveway they had to add 8-12 inches to get the pitch just right. (my property is all on a slope) They laid down fresh stone and then paved the driveway with a generous 3" of asphalt. I could not be happier with the quality of work they performed! They had a hard working, friendly crew. I would definitely hire them again!

In three words:  dishonest, manipulative, unreliable.
The details:  Tom Hicks gave me an estimate for a residential driveway paving in August, 2015. For five weeks I tried to get a contract so that he could begin the work before October. I made arrangements with him NINE times to come up with a contract ?
each and every time he broke the appointment and provided a lame excuse ? ?shorthanded today?, ?not in the area?, ?how about next Monday??, etc., etc.  Well, on that ?next Monday? I asked my wife to leave work early so that she could be home to sign the contract Tom promised to deliver.  Guess what? ? HE NEVER SHOWED, and worse, HE NEVER CALLED!  The next day I called his office and spoke to his wife ? she told me she would call him right away and get back to me within 15 minutes.  Guess what? ? SHE NEVER DID!  The whole operation is a dog and pony show, nothing but smoke and mirrors. These guys are your typical ?I PROMISE to do the work, BUT NEVER WILL? contractors.  Needless to say, I?d advise any who?s looking for an honest and reliable driveway contractor to look elsewhere!  Run, don?t walk, away from Tom Hicks!!!

After receiving an estimate and indicating that I wanted them to do the job, I was told that I needed to sign a contract for the work to be done. I tried on three separate occasions to have the estimator meet me at my home to review and sign it. In each case he said "I will call you later today and we'll set up a time for me to come by." He never called back and never showed up. This went on for about about 10 days. During the last call he said "I will come over today and get it signed." Again, he never showed and never called me back. In every phone conversation I had to remind him of who I was and where I lived and what the job entailed - acted as if he'd never been to my home or spoken with me before.

My husband and I received several estimates to get our large driveway paved. We agreed on Hicks Paving for the job as the price was extremely fair and reasonable and we trusted they would do a good job. Tom was responsive from the very beginning. He always answered our calls or promptly returned them. This is one professional Outfit and we were highly impressed with the crew and the equipment. I especially like that it is a family run business and they all "get their hands dirty". Tom and his crew were incredibly professional, helpful, and punctual and most importantly, the work is beautiful.  I would absolutely recommend this company to anyone.

We had a pretty big residential job for Hicks.  Our property had a mud pit for a "driveway". And I mean about 120x 12 feet or more of 8" deep, awful, foul mud that we couldn't even park in/on anymore. We called Hicks for a free estimate (having already received 2 estimates from other well-rated Angie's list paving companies). Charlie Hicks came out the next day (a Saturday) to look over our property. Their estimate was $500-1000- less than the other companies. They were very friendly and prompt and professional. They're a great family business. They ended up having an opening for that very next Monday (only a few days after I contacted them).   They arrived right when they said they would and finished the WHOLE job in ONE day.  They scraped off and hauled away a good 8+ inches deep of mud, grass, soil, and stones. . .then laid down the new crushed stone driveway and parking pads. They rolled it flat and even curved out the edges (which required a little more stone). It was easy to see they pride themselves in doing a beautiful job. I was worried that maybe more of our property would become a mud pit during the process, but they left my property in better shape then when they started.  I couldn't possibly be more pleased with the people I dealt with or the job they did. I would recommend them 100% to anyone looking for a big or small job.
