The owner personally took the measurements and prepared the quote. S&S is a Trane dealer and supplied a Trane system (80% single speed furnace, 4-ton A/C). The lines leading to from the A/C to the blower were also replaced due to the different type of refrigerant being used as well as a poor installation job on the original lines. S&S's quote was the best of 3 for the services being performed and type of system being installed. The installers showed up on time and completed the job in one day. The owner personally registered the system with Trane and provided me with the warranty information. I waited until now to write the review in order to see if the heater works properly, and it has been running well for the past month.

I did not find them on Angie's List when I looked. They were recommended by a neighbor. He was very thorough. We had a lot of questions because we are new home owners. We just bought our home and this is our first home. It has oil heat and a heat pump so we had a lot of questions regarding the furnace itself and all the things on it. He was very helpful and answered all our questions. He also took an extra time to look at other things that we asked him about outside of the scope of what the service was for. He was very responsive in answering all the questions we had and took a look at the things that we had questions outside the scope of him just looking at our furnace and our heat pump. This is our first time getting our furnace serviced.

I cannot say enough positive things about S & S. Their customer service is like something from another era. Dianna is the office manager and she is amazing!!! Install went off without a hitch. Guys were respectful and made sure our 3 dogs weren’t able to escape while going in and out of our yard ed is the gm and he is also amazing. Great follow–up after install as well. Would 100% recommend without away hesitation.

Two younger men came to remove old AC/Heating unit and install newly purchased unit. They arrived 30 minutes early to my delight. Wore shoe protection and brought sheets to protect flooring. Installation only took a half hour, so I could go back to work earlier than expected. Employers were knowledgeable, answered questions and very respectful. Would recommend to family and friends!

The work went very well.  The service tech was extremely friendly and readily answered questions posed during the service work.  The generator has been running it's scheduled exercise without any problems since.

My forced-air gas furnace stopped working properly (was circulating air in the house, but not heating).  I contact S&S on Monday afternoon to let them know we had no heat.  The person I dealt with, Diana, was really great and understood the urgency.  She got two technicians out there by 8am the next morning (we were okay overnight with an electric space heater -- I had the kids sleep on the floor in my bedroom).  Craig and Dalton were nice, polite, respectful (they even put booties on when they came in the house to keep my floors clean).  They identified the problem and got the furnace heating again by 8:30am.  In the middle of this, I had to take my kids (elementary school aged) around the corner to the bus stop, but I didn't think twice about leaving them unsupervised in my home.
After getting the furnace working again, they completed the usual preventive maintenance items and also diagnosed the problem with the whole-house humidifier that is attached to the furnace air intake (it needs a new solenoid, which they don't carry on the truck, but they'll get back to me with a repair cost).
They let me know that part of the problem with the furnace is that the heat exchanger is starting to fail (the system is 23 years old).  They taught me how to reset the furnace if this problem happens again, and said to plan to replace it if the problem happens more than a couple more times.
I definitely will recommend S&S and will certainly get a quote from them when it is time to replace the system.

Outstanding quality of workmanship, very detail oriented, clean and friendly

We came home to a warm house Sunday evening.  They met me after work on Monday.  Emailed an estimate that night, and started the work first thing Wednesday morning.  They were done Wednesday, about 2:00.  Charged me the exact estimate.

Human error. I had changed a filter in my heater and unbeknownced to me I had flipped off an emergency switch which shut down the system. Jeff came out the next day (on a saturday) to fix the system and found that I had flipped the switch. So, all in all, nothing was wrong. Jeff drove 40 minutes from Abington to find out that it was as simple as flipping a switch (because I insisted that the switch had not been touched) and he took it all in stride. This is the kind of service that has us convinced S&S is the ONLY way to go when repairing or installing heating/air in Philadelphia. Anyone else would have been peeved and would have charged us for his time. S&S treats us like family. I only hope that Jeff doesn't block my calls next time we have a problem! :)

They were very thorough and took their time with me, and explained everything in detail. They are a very honest and family based business. Their work was very clean and organized.

February 28, 2008- I called to schedule an appointment for a quote, left voice mail. February 24, 2008 - S&S person called back and wanted to stop by on this day to look at HVAC system, I agreed. March 10,2008 - I received quote. March 18-April 4, 2008 - I left several voice mails for S&S to contact me regarding scheduling a time for installation. April 13, 2008 - I received call from S&S stating that the parts were on order. May 21, 2008 - I received a call from S&S stating that they would be there on the same day to install. May 22, 2008 - I received a call from S&S stating that they would need to be here on this day too and that they would be done on this day. May 28, 2008 - I received a call from S&S stating that they would need to finish up the installation. June 2, 2008 - I received the bill. Overall Experience: This vendor took too long from the time I called for a quote to the time for installation. The price was reasonable but the customer service was not very good. I was also under the impression that the installation was finished on 5/22, but the vendor did not call to state that, rather, they called the following week to complete the job. We are still in discovery of this product installation and do not know if the product is working correctly as we did not receive a "How To" walk through. The vendor stated that once the air filtration system is at maximum capacity, that we could call them and they would show us how to clean the filter; not sure how long it will take to schedule that too.

S & S Heating & Air Conditioning is a small, 2 man operation, which in my opinion is destined for success. Jeff Scolis is a hard working, honest person who knows his trade and works hard at it. His partner, Ed Smith, specializes in the heating end of the business. I asked Jeff to send his partner over in mid September to check out our gas furnace prior to heating season.

S&S = Ed and Jeff. Ed was my initial contact, and made himself available to fit my schedule when discussing the job. S&S was able to start on short notice, and completed the work in 2.5 days, and it was done for $5000 less than the closest estimate. Ed placed emphasis on proper sizing, energy efficiency of the design and Jeffery on ensuring minimal ductwork and quiet operation. Ed answered my call about an unexpected noise with an in-person visit that same evening. (was normal operational noise of clean effects unit). They've subsequently inquired about system performance (we were pending the warm weather), and offered to follow up with a visit for any necessary adjustment. Both are approachable and professional, and clearly take pride in the design and execution of the system. The system works well, I am very pleased and have no doubt that they will stand behind their work.

Before Angie's List, we did the old pick a name out of the hat and keep your fingers crossed. It actually worked in this case. S&S is a small company run by two men, Jeff Skolls and Ed Smith. Jeff is the contact while Ed is the technical guy. Let me tell you, they are great, prompt and reliable, courteous and friendly. Their price point was competitive with any other, and they prefer the quality of Trane products. Of all the projects I've had contractors do over the years, this was one that was done with precision and care. About 4 months after installation, we had a problem with a transformer and they showed us 2 hours later to fix the problem. VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
