2. The owner and designer, Dave Cerami, suggested a 12 inch marble tile for the master bath walls and floor. as well as for the floor in the second bath. He described the tile as carrerra marble when he presented the option. It was not carrerra marble, but a more porous marble. Do not use their suggestions since they will not stand behind products they recommend and will claim that this is what happens with natural stone products.
3. Upon completion and after numerous mistakes by sub-contractors, the bottom row of marble in the shower darkened. We were told by HomeTech that this is what marble does. We stopped using the shower for 3 months and allowed the tile to dry out. They recaulked the shower walls and shower floor and that corrected this problem.
4. Then the tiles in the shower walls began to show stress fractures and eventually cracked. We stopped using the shower again for months and they finally agreed to replace the cracked shower wall tiles and the cracked pie shelves. When the tile contractor removed the tiles, the nails literally came out with his fingers and the seams were not taped. The nails they used to go through the double layer of wall board and hardy board were not long enough to keep the walls from moving and the tiles and grout from cracking repeatedly. They replaced the tiles but did not repair the wall's stability.
5. The 12 inch marble floor tiles started to show stress fractures within 6 months. and the cracks have now come to the surface. The tile installer complained at the time of installation that he was forced to place a 6 inch wet bed since no subfloor had been added. HomeTech's explanation was that was how the floor was done 50+ years earlier upon the last renovation. They recommended the 12 inch marble for the floor and then suggested we should have put a smaller tile.
6. Do not trust their design or product suggestions and beware of the notebook. They refuse to replace the cracked floor tiles blaming the tile and never accepting that their installation techniques caused or added to the problem. Their answer is to blame movement on a 85 year old house settling and the nature of natural stone products. Two year nightmare!!
"Thank you for the honest review... Although we had not moved forward on this project, we were never provided with the slightest ballpark figure of the customers budget limitations and designed, and quoted, as per those preferences. For the scope of the project, the figure that we came up with was not unusually high and was par with the caliber of the home itself. The customer had selected some high end finishes, and we were redesigning multiple rooms in the house with a lot of remodeling planned for as well as new materials. We suggested to quote alternate substitutions to bring down the cost without compromising the clients preferred design, although were not given the opportunity. We appreciate the opportunity, and would be willing to work with your budgeting needs if provided with one in the future."
