We had a similar experience to the other reviewers here as far as the testing is concerned--the test was scheduled promptly, it was very thorough and the report is extremely detailed and was provided within a week. They did find lead in the house, including significantly elevated levels in basement, which was recommended in the report as a priority for remediation. Unfortunately, despite numerous calls, emails, and promises to follow up, we never heard back from the owner after receiving the report. We did not received any contractor recommendations or specific guidance on completing the remediation, therefore I cannot give higher than a "fair" review, as we face the daunting task of cold calling contractors and hoping we can find someone to competently do the work.

Mike S. was amazing. He spent about 2 hours methodically going through every room in our home to test for any lead hazards. Mike explained every step along the way and made us feel extremely confident in his knowledge and abilities. Great experience, gave us total peace of mind with a small toddler in the house.

My wife and wanted a lead inspection on a 3000 sq ft. home with a short contingency period, 15 days including the week of Thanksgiving! Bruce's firm was the first on Angie's list and I can see why, he agreed to perform the inspection that Saturday and provided the report to us the following evening, including lead wipe samples fedexed for 24 h analysis. Can't argue with that kind of punctuality.
Bruce was extremely thorough in his inspection, he spent over 6 hours on the premises and took ~500 measurements. Of course he found lead, but it made a huge difference to know exactly where he did find it and where he didn't, for instance one child's bedroom contained very little while another quite a lot, the insides of the windows were generally lead-free but the sashes and sills (friction areas) had lead paint. Most significantly he found that the tiles in the kitchen - a post-1978 renovation - were coated with lead-containing paint or glaze. Most people don't bother with the cost of lead inspections but for those with young children who understand the risks of lead exposure, this information is really important.
Finally, as a professor of chemistry I can state that Bruce did an excellent job of explaining what he was doing, how the measurements are taken, what the results mean, and how we might prioritize corrective actions. His report is not only detailed but fair and balanced, neither exaggerating or under-representing the risks of what he found. As a residential home buyer I highly recommend his services for anyone considering a historic home.

I selected Bruce on Angie?s list based on his high ratings. He
was very helpful in explaining the options, process and pricing for the lead
testing. I was impressed by his flexibility and able to complete the inspection
within few hours of the initial call.
He provided an excellent service and speedy turnaround in order to have
the results back within few days. I will certainly use him again in the future.

The inspection went very well. He offered two packages - one for $300 and another for ~ $800. The $300 package was sufficient for our  needs. He spot checked areas of concerns, and we were able to pick up on a trend of where the lead paint was located. The $800 package included a thorough inspection of every room and a detailed report.

Bruce was great. First, he took the time to thoroughly explain the services he provided, what he thought I needed, and what it would all cost. He then carefully examined my home for lead and allowed me to follow along asking questions.  Finally, having found some lead, he then suggested a number of solutions and referred me to various providers. I would highly recommend him to anybody who needs to have his/her house checked for lead.

I chose to call Bruce to do the lead testing on my rental property due to his having good reputation in Angie's list. I was impressed in the excellent service he provided. He thoroughly checked every wall, doors and windows. He explained everything while he was doing the inspection. It took him hours to finish everything. I will definitely hire him again to do the lead inspection on my other property. Thanks, Bruce!

My wife and I were doing painting work on our house and unfortunately, we left some painters tape on for too long and pulled up some of the existing paint.  Since our house was built in the 1960's we had no way of knowing what may contain lead paint.  We contacted Bruce of Atlantic Lead Consultants via email through Angie's List 2 hours after his listed business hours.  Not expecting any response until the following day, we were pleasantly surprised when Bruce called us a few minutes later. We arranged a visit for the following morning, 13 hours later.
The next day, we had some terrible rain, causing traffic jams all over the major roads.  This did not stop Bruce from being precisely on time, despite having to drive a bit to our house.  Bruce proceeded to conduct an extremely thorough exam of our property and delivered a written report within two days.  Throughout the entire exchange Bruce acted with respect and professionalism.  I'd highly recommend this quality service provider.

Quality/Professionalism - As other reviewers have said, Bruce provided a great service and was very professional. Our house is three stories and Bruce probably spent seven hours at the house doing readings on all different surfaces. He was very kind and explained to me in detail what he was doing. He also provided insight on other questions I had regarding how to hire a quality painter. Overall, I learned a lot from Bruce and was pleased with the report and recommendations he provided.
Price - I liked that Bruce told me upfront that the cost would be $1000 (due to size of house) and that there was not a chance of this going up. I have worked with other service providers who have added additional fees and there was none of this with Bruce. Considering he was at our house for seven hours and then provided a report, I felt $1000 was a good price.
Responsiveness - Bruce was very responsive to my questions via phone prior to me booking the service.
Punctuality - Bruce was very communicative about timing. He was coming from another appointment a bit farther away. Initially he gave me a timeframe (between 9-10), but he called to say traffic was bad and it would be more like 10:15. I felt he was very good in communicating his timing, which I appreciated. He was also quick in providing his report after the inspection (3 days later).

I'm sure many of you will understand when I say that we were terrified at the thought of having lead in our home. Our 15 month old had a blood test that came back with elevated lead levels. We had just bought a new home, and were so concerned we talked about selling it. Thankfully Bruce came to the rescue and eased our minds a great deal. He took 254 readings with the XRF (x-ray fluorescence) machine. We were very relieved when most of the tests can back negative for lead. He was there at least 5 hours I think. It was a very educational experience, and it is obvious Bruce knows what he is talking about. I learned about lead in history, how the machine works, how important it is to remediate lead properly, and how big the fines are for not doing so.
I initially was looking for someone who would perform both the testing and lead remediation; however I am much happier having had a thorough assessment, and in knowing that the results won't be biased by someone wanting to do the abatement. I felt very relieved after the inspection; however,  I was even more impressed with his report which is outstanding in it's comprehensiveness. With so many positive reviews it's not really like Bruce needs mine, but I felt it was necessary. I hope to never need his services again, but it certainly took a weight off of our shoulders. You won't find such positive reviews for another lead inspection specialist out there, and I can only hope that someone as qualified takes his place when he retires.
Quick tip: If you have Aqua for your water they will send you a kit to perform a free lead test on your water.

I had been looking for a lead inspector for about a month and had been referred to the Philadelphia Health Department.  I did try at the Health Department, but I didn't get a sense that the assessor would be able to provide a permanent certificate.  I consulted Angie's List and found Bruce of Atlantic Lead Consultants, Inc.   I sent him an e-mail, and he gave me a date of availability. We were snowed out on the first date and rescheduled. I had already spoken with Bruce by phone. He gave me a lot of information on what to anticipate.  The inspection would take close to four hours.
On the day of the inspection, Bruce arrived right on time.  He spent some time  explaining the inspection process.  The one thing that stood out about Bruce is that he educates you as he inspects the premise.  I was having a duplex inspected, and the whole inspection was in three segments: common areas, first floor apartment followed by the second floor.
Bruce is very thorough.  If you hire Bruce to inspect, be prepared to stay with him during the inspection and be prepared to learn a lot about the inspection process.  He was correct about the four hour time frame.
He arrived at 9 and was finished by 1.  Bruce is very professional with  ha a really affable personality.  You feel comfortable with him right away.  What could have been just a time consuming experience was really a good experience.  I would recommend Bruce to anyone who needs a "good"  and knowledgeable inspector.  I was lucky to get a really good inspector from Angie's list.  Also, keep in mind, I had a time trying to find a lead assessor, especially one that has the credentials that Bruce has, and could provide a permanent "Lead Free" Certificate.  Not all of them are certified to do this type of risk assessment.
