General Remodeling
I phoned the provider on a Tuesday, and they were very polite. They were able to begin working the following day (Wednesday). When the workers showed up, they looked as if they had just rolled out of bed and were bickering with each other right in front of me. Needless to say, the professionalism was questionable.
The job foreman walked me through the work that was going to be done (ripping out carpet & drywall, carrying items from the basement into the garage, hauling away refuse, etc); however, no discussion was centered around pricing...probably due to the fact that I had insurance coverage for an incident like this. I should have asked, I know; however, I was still in shock that this had even happened in my home.
The work was completed in a day's time, and they left several high-powered fans and 2 large dehumidifiers in my basement to run 24-7 for 10 days...powered off of my electricity. Workers would repeatedly visit my home to take 'measurements' until they believed the fans/dehumidifiers could be removed.
A month later I received an invoice from them to the tune of $4,400! I only had insurance coverage up to $5,000. I lost a lot of personal items during the ordeal, to the tune of approximately $6,000....this left me with $600 to fix my basement after ServPro had been paid.
Needless to say, I was floored by the cost for such a cleanup! This didn't even include any restorative services either. Do they charge differently if you have insurance??? I'm not sure, but had the cost been discussed up-front, I would have done most of the work myself.
