The contractor removed all the insulation in the attic and then proceeded to treat any mold due to the condensation from being vapor locked due to clogged soffit vents. They were then to replace the insulation exactly as it was, part of it bat insulation and part blown-in. As they started to replace the bat insulation, they used craft faced bat insulation which was only R19 rated when we had R30 existing. Then they also tried to double it up in some places with the craft face between two layers which again created a damaging vapor barrier. Please note, I had R30 insulation with no craft facing that existed in the attic and they stated that it would be replaced with the same. While replacing the bat insulation they then broke through our ceiling which needed repair. They did repair the ceiling.
After they stated they had completed the project, I checked their work? They had compressed the bat insulation under wires and cross members completely eliminating any R-value; they had the craft face between multiple layers (they shouldn?t used craft faced at all); they used R19 rather than the R30 that was existing and contracted to replace; when they replaced the blown-in insulation, they used less than half the existing R30+ value and replaced it with less that 4 inched of blow-in in most areas.
I refused the quality of work they provided and demanded them to come back and do it again to the specification contracted to do. With that, I insisted that they not send back one of the workers that were doing the work as he was using foul language all day in ear-short of my two young girls in the house. In addition, he was new and didn?t know anything about insulation installation. The manager then calls my home stating the workers are on their way back to redo the work and the worker I asked to not enter my house again was one of the workers returning.
They returned to the house with bat insulation in their truck that was for 16? knowing my attic needed 24? bat insulation. I was told ?it must have been whatever was in the truck?? They tried to use it on sections in the back corner hoping I wouldn?t see it leaving large un-insulated gaps. I have pictures to prove this. After demanding it be completed correctly, they then cut extra pieces to fill the gaps which then left other smaller gaps and very, very sloppy coverage. They then added more blown-in insulation and tried to add the appropriate R-value and left high and low spots throughout.
Over all, I would not recommend this company to anyone and can?t imagine what work they do for customers that can?t get into their attics due to age and accessibility to check their work.
Garage door replacement was subcontracted to Thomas Giel and John Neslon handled the case. They were great, easy to deal with and professional.
For some minor work (fixing a gate and painting around garage door), Firedex sent their own workers and they were a disaster. They rescheduled on short notice, not a single step of the work was done correctly the first time and the gate was finished correctly only at the very end when they wanted my signature for the insurance. They eventually completed the work but it was painful and a lot of unnecessary waste of time to deal with them and get them do what they are supposed to do.
I would definitely avoid them in the future.
