If I could give them no stars. I would. Our experience with this company was beyond horrible. Away from several broken pieces of furniture, they were rude and at some point they sent a very nasty, threatening letter with no signature but so inflammatory that we had to engage the police. Bottom line, do not use this company. They were a nightmare! If you have an issue you can be sure they will not help or try to rectify the issue. Arrogant, entitled and no care for what chaos they put on the client.
Response from O'Brien's Moving & Storage
"Uh-oh crazy Rebecca the Review Queen is back! Apparently, Rebecca has terrible luck as apparently, she has had poor service and left at least 8 nasty reviews within the past year alone, including a cell phone store, a marina, 2 doctors, a gym, a Starbucks for cold coffee, the U.S. Postal Service, and a hospital where she disgracefully belittled the education level of someone that waited on her. Now O'Brien's for the 2ndtime! We move several thousand people and families each year, and we are very proud of our reputation and service. Not every move goes perfect, but the vast majority goes extremely well and if there is an issue that we caused, we attempt to remedy it. Then there are people like Rebecca, who hop on a keyboard and think it is OK to say whatever they want about other people, lie, and hurl accusations without any merit or proof, leaving us to have to defend ourselves. The Rebecca saga began when we attempted to get payment for their move. We require anyone paying by credit card to pre pay their moves 3 days in advance, to make sure there was adequate funds available. Well, theirs wasn't. 2 of 3 credit cards Rebecca gave us got rejected for lack of available funds. Subsequent attempts to process the credit cards failed, and Rebecca refused to answer any our calls to rectify the situation. Despite that, in good faith we completed the move over 2 days; a move that was a complete disaster as you admitted that you were not fully prepared for your move, and we had to complete the packing. In addition, the house at destination was not complete as there was several contractors working on the house, as well as a painter, and cleaning person, and a mysterious family member that kept following the crew around. Then we get a call the next day from her husband stating the priceless jewelry was stolen suspiciously from a jewelry box, followed is by a call from you stating the same, and accusing us of the theft. Amazing that this allegedly occurred after not paying 2/3rds of the balance on the move. Despite that, the manager instructed you to call the police and file a theft report. He also informed you that the police would probably then want to interview all of our workers all of whom are experienced, and fully background checked, as well as all the contractors, the painter, and the cleaning lady that was present. We then followed up with the police department and had one conversation with an officer and we offered to give them the name and phone numbers of each employee. We have never heard anything from anyone since. Worse yet, Rebecca the Review Queen decided to go on Google and Angie's List and leave a terrible review, accusing us of theft of over $100,000.00 worth of jewelry! Without any proof. We became very suspicious for many reasons: the value of the jewelry kept changing, the magical jewelry box was actually handed to the husband, as we want jewelry, wallets, etc. to be transported by the customer themselves. Then this jewelry box with all the alleged expensive jewelry was merely set on a bed in plain view for everyone to see, including the cleaning lady that was in the bedroom, as observed by one of the movers. A couple of weeks went by and we heard nothing further on the alleged missing jewelry, nor did we receive the payment for the move. So we sent you a letter stating that we felt that the missing jewelry claim was merely an attempt to get off paying for your move, which is called "theft of service". In addition, we take all attempts of fraud and slanderous statements without proof very seriously, and that continued nonsense from you would result in us taking legal action. That still stands! So finally, almost all of your items were put were you wanted them, with no damage reported. The few remaining items were put in the garage, as that room was not completed. We received a notice from Angie's List several days after the first move that you need"

We used this company for our recent move. We just had the hardwood floors refinished in our new home and reminded the team on multiple occasions to please be careful with the floors. After they left we noticed two parallel skid marks starting in one upstairs bedroom, continuing into the hallway and then into another bedroom. One of these marks was in the shape of a tire track, clearly from a handtruck. When we noticed the damage, we thought maybe the wheel mark could be easily cleaned off or buffed out, so we reached out to the flooring company first. They took a couple of days to come out and see it. Unfortunately the solution involves buffing and putting a new coat of poly over the whole surface, and we were quoted a cost of $1300. We contacted Oâ Brienâ s with this problem but were told it would likely not be covered because it had been several days before it was reported. My husband offered to forward them the email he sent to the flooring company the day after the move documenting the damage and they were not interested. We were told to submit a claims form, which we did and also included with it these photos clearly showing the tire track of a hand truck. We received a letter stating the claim was denied due to company policy that any damage must be reported while the workers are still on site the day of the move. My husband called to try to talk to an actual person about the denial and was told that the workers used protective flooring. I personally witnessed them use protective flooring only on the first floor, not upstairs where the damage occurred, and I personally witnessed them use the hand truck upstairs in those areas. To me, this is a clear admission of negligence from the company - the workers knew or should have known to use protective flooring where the hand truck was being used. He was told that a supervisor would contact him to discuss the issue, but never heard back. He called again a week later and was told that actually, no one would be calling him back, the claim is denied, and the supervisor decided not to return his call. We can understand the necessity of this policy to protect the company from customers who try to claim damages well after the fact that were not caused by the movers. However, clearly circumstances may arise in which damage is not uncovered before the movers leave from the job, particularly as there is pressure to release them from the property as the pay-by-the-hour continues until that point and it is not realistic to examine every item and room in the house. We were very disappointed that the supervisor simply refused to call us back, as any business with integrity should at least be willing to speak with us, review the concerns on a case by case basis, and do whatâ s right by their customers rather than hiding behind this policy so they donâ t have to stand by the quality of their service. If a mistake was made we can understand that, but the company should be willing to address it.
Response from O'Brien's Moving & Storage
"Hi Liana, Per the owner, we wanted to apologize for what transpired during your move, and also for the lack of proper communication after you called in about the floor damage, which quite frankly can be just as frustrating. You are correct in the fact that property damage claims have to be noted and shown to the crew during the move or during the end of move walkthrough, and this is for many reasons. Frequently there are construction people, painters, cleaners, etc. present during the move and the days after. Also new furniture is often delivered after the move along with appliances such as washers, dryers, refrigerators, etc. Weight equipment, ellipticals, treadmills etc. are many times purchased and delivered after the move. In addition and most importantly, with any new or refinished floors, the polyurethane must be allowed the proper time to "cure", or harden. That time-frame is typically a minimum of five days for walking, and a week for setting items such as furniture on it. During a follow up call with you yesterday we asked you when the final coating was completed, and you stated it was the day before the move and that the floor installer indicated that the floors were good to go. Therefore, no amount of protection would have prevented marks or indentations to the floor that was not allowed the proper time to harden. Quite frankly, we are now concerned about indentations wherever any heavy items such as furniture or beds are setting on. Despite this, we are disappointed with the lack of prompt and proper communication with our customer service manager during this process, and we will be sending a monetary goodwill gesture to assist with the floor repair."

We had a scheduled move earlier today, and one of the movers did not read the paperwork ahead of time showing that we had cats and showed up despite being allergic. We were told they were going to find another person to help, but they left without speaking to us and told their dispatcher that they couldnâ t move us because we had roaches and needed to fumigate. A salesperson came to our house two weeks ago to give us an estimate and clearly saw that we didnâ t have roaches. Iâ ve tried calling twice and the dispatcher has directed me to the person who schedules the crews and it has gone straight to voicemail both times.
Response from O'Brien's Moving & Storage
"The circumstance with your cats was caused by the original driver calling off sick and us having to replace him with another driver. The salesperson did not indicate that there were cats in the home and for that we sincerely apologize. The replacement driver is allergic to cats however, that concern was easily remedied when the decision was made that the driver would remain outside to load the truck while the other members of the crew brought items out of the home. Unfortunately, as you know, the real issue was that all three crew members noticed what appeared to be cockroaches as they began to move your items causing the move to come to a halt. As there are multiple apartments in the complex, there is no way to determine the origin of the cockroaches but that is irrelevant. For several reasons, the most important being the fact that we cannot move any items once cockroaches or any other potential type of infestation has been discovered, as the truck and moving pads can become infested causing issues for the next customer’s move. The crew did not leave without speaking with you. They remained on-site and called the office wherein a member of the dispatch team spoke with you and informed you that the apartment needed to be fumigated. You were also informed that once the apartment had been fumigated, we would return and proceed with your move. That offer still stands, however we have not heard back from you to reschedule."

They estimated for 3 guys for 2 days for my move down the street. They sent 6 guys for day one and still required 3 guys for day two, increasing the final cost by over 30% for estimate. The customer service address was terrible. Never was transferred to anyone with decisioning power. I would never recommend this company. I have moved across the country several times. This was the worst set of movers I have ever used.

We had a long-distance move to Florida. They did a great job packing. One problem that we had, is that you have to plan for extra hotel expenses because they moved us out sooner than expected. We had 3 extra hotel stays with a pet. The second problem we had is that they rushed our unloading. They had four guys moving our possessions in faster than we could think where to put them. The Obrien driver/mover in charge claimed we were always changing our minds. We are both executives and do not change our minds. The Obrien driver was rushing us. He revealed himself to us when he said he wanted to get on the road so that he could get North of Jacksonville, Fl, to beat the rush hour traffic. By default, we put a lot of things in the garage which we later had to move into the house. We are both retired and it was a lot of extra work to move the furniture into the house. Third problem. We have antiques and our main dresser had all four legs broken because they did not unload and remove the drawers before moving the chest into the house. This chest laid on its side with clothing in the drawers. I finally fixed the chest myself just so I could get our master bedroom in order. They also broke an expensive antique table which will hopefully be covered by the insurance. Maybe this is just what to expect when moving long distances.

Horrible, stay away!!!!! Brand New Furniture completely destroyed Over $ 7, 000 dollars worth of furniture completely ruined and offered 357 as a settlement. We paid over $3, 000 for the company to move and store our furniture. The movers smoked cigarettes. Did not wear masks, and scuffled when asked to put one on. Left cigarette butts in the street and on our lawn. Took many breaks...Got there late at 9:15 and by 9:30 were on their first break without removing one piece of furniture. Do not even think about hiring this company. I wish I would have known. Showed up in a beat-up ran down van...I should have trusted my gut and sent them away. Now I am stuck with damaged furniture. One of our pieces is water damage on the bottom and is completely cracked.

Stay far, far away. We arranged for OBriens to pack our remaining items and move us 1/2 hour away to our new home. Although they were very flexible with the amount of date changes due to our close date being pushed out repeatedly, this is where the positive review ends. On day two, they changed out the crew and except for the lead guy, an entirely new crew was called from a different moving company at the very last minute. This caused them to be 2-1/2 hours later than I was told to expect them with no communication to let us know. Toward the end of the pack on day two, the lead guy continued to get more and more agitated with my requests to pack up items that They forgot including telling me flat out that he was not going to pack them. However, unknown to me until later, he took our remaining items and dumped them together unprotected into a wardrobe box. The box also was not sealed on the bottom so when they got to the house, the box fell out from the bottom, dumping our belongings on the floor of our garage, breaking several items. They also picked up and moved a tool cabinet full of heavy tools without removing anything and packing them separately. The entire shelf collapsed during the move. Stainless Steel garbage cans were dented, furniture was scratched, and our refrigerator dented. Additionally, two of the crew members had an altercation at the new house which came very close to a fist fight between two of the workers, including quite a bit of vulgar language. One of the crew members had to take a **time out** I have never in my life witnessed such an unprofessional crew. We decided not to take the $500 insurance they offered since we packed about 80% of our belongings including the most fragile items. I am so glad we packed most of it ourselves, because I cannot imagine the damage we would have had to deal with if they packed everything. We received a whopping $82.00 for over $2k worth of damage that was their fault 100%. I am shocked that a moving company responsible for your most precious possessions takes zero responsibility for damage done by unprofessional and uncaring movers. The movers clearly did not care about the safety of our belongings.I would not go near this company again with a 10-foot pole.

I paid top dollar to have these people move me. They cancelled the first date due to a snow prediction that did not actually result in snow but would not honor the original date. 2 of the 3 movers were very nice and tried to compensate for the third guy who had a very short temper and was throwing my boxes around. The company topper was when they were attempting to get my $1200 sofa through the door, which called for the door to be taken off the hinges. Before the 2 smart guys could do this, the rude one tried to shove the sofa though the door, ripping the fabric in the sofa in 2 places. Had to fight with the office to get a paltry amount that was not enough to get the fabric repaired.
Response from O'Brien's Moving & Storage
"We thank you for the feedback on the move. At O'Brien's Moving & Storage we always strive to provide professional service to our customers. We do apologize for the cancellation of your move date prior to the date of the expected weather. However, when the forecast calls for inclement weather in the interest of safety we re-schedule the move to another date. We do our best to accommodate your original move dates and closing times to the best of our ability but the physical safety of our drivers and crews is our primary concern in changing dates. In regard to the claim mentioned. We have a claims department and are happy to process your claim based on what coverage you had purchased prior to the move this coverage would have been reviewed during your estimate you may have added additional or opted out of additional coverage. We do apologize for any damages that may have occurred however you did have a top moving crew, so if you would be able to call the office and identify the gentleman on your crew that day, I would more than happy to address that person directly so we can provide better service in the future. Please call our claims department at 800-XXXX ext 319. We will happy to answer any further questions. Thank you."

Obriens movers sighed and complained all day about the move. They quit at 6 pm due to apartment complex rules, but made no plans to move my desk, window units, lg area rug, two mantels, queen mattress and bed frame and more. I had to hire another movers to finish the job. Demanded full pay. CROOKS.

"We thank you for the feedback on the move. At O'Brien's Moving & Storage we always strive to provide professional service to our customers. However, as the customer you are also responsible for securing certain moving and or parking permits for the day of the move and providing any complex rules or regulations prior to the day of service. When you failed to secure no parking signs for our trucks, it made it impossible to complete the job in the time required by your complex building. We offered to come back the next day to finish the services and you declined that service. Also, you only paid for the actual working time of crews since you initialed at the start and stop of the move so you only paid for service we provided."
