Jade Smith Paving

Horrible! The original site visit, the seal failed in 8 months. The cracks weren't properly filled and sealed. I have two different sizes of berms. I contacted the owner and he apologized and said they got a bad batch of seal (as i wasn't the only customer that this had happened to) and would come out when it was dry to re-seal my driveway. The second time they came out to re-do their work, which was only the top seal, it failed in 4 months. The cracks were never addressed. Now, the cracks have gotten longer and wider. I contacted the owner after the 2nd re-do, and he said they would come out when it was dry and re-do for a 3rd time. He said he didn't know what happened, but would come out when it was dry to re-do for a 3rd time. As of today, 9/22/17, I haven't heard from him. He has not returned any of my phone calls or emails. (Original job started 07/14 and last email contact i've had with the owner was on 4/19/16)

I had three bids on this small project. All the bids were within 10% of each other. Jade was the lowest, but by such a small amount that it really did not affect my decision. Rob the estimator came out and clearly understood what work I wanted them to do. Their quote was the most thorough and described in detail the work that was to be done and included a few details like applying hot seal that was not specified in the other two bids. I don't know if the others would have done this, but Jade Smith specifically included it in their quote. The were able to schedule me within about a week of me accepting their quote (which was great). The three fellows who did the work showed up at the time that was scheduled. The completed work was neater and better formed than that of an adjacent neighbor's rain berm which was done a few years ago. They cleaned up the street when they were done so everything looked great. I am very pleased with all aspects of this work and would use Jade Smith in the future.

They did a great job. The reason the asphalt failed was the original driveway was not graded correctly. This caused the water to pool in the middle. Smith's corrected the grade so the water now drains off to the side.

After being scammed by Rose City Paving, I contacted Jade Smith to remove the lousy work RCP had done, excavate an additional area, provide rock base and provide new asphalt paving. Their estimate was prompt and detailed, listing areas to be removed, asphalt thickness and type and hot sealing at the county road. I revised their proposal to ensure there would be no gaps in what was expected and JS responded promptly. JS subcontracted the excavation work (see separate review of Ted's Excavation), but did the rock base and asphalt paving work. They arrived on the day of paving on time, but had to wait because I had signed the contract and sent it back by email, but JS had not sent back to me a copy signed by JS. Since RCP scammed the thickness (putting down 1" where it was supposed to be 2" minimum and screwing up the drainage by putting in a belly where it was supposed to be a straight plane), I went over the contract and the items of most importance to me with the person in charge. Their crew seemed a little slow in getting started, but responded well when I expressed any concern with the base work. When the actual asphalt paving work started, they were well organized, efficient and had little clean-up to do since they did not scrape their shoes or asphalt rakes on my concrete curbs or dump asphalt into barkdust areas like RCP. The completed job drains perfectly. One year after the RCP paving, the surface was grey colored and raveling so bad you could twist your foot on the surface and pop up rocks with ease. One year after paving by JS, the surface is still black and as sound as the day it was laid.

They showed up on time, had reasonable pricing and did good work.
