the service staff was great, and so was my salesman. He listened then asked me what I wanted to do. I told him I would take something that didn't make so much noise. I ordered another computer and went to the service area to collect my receipt.



My salesman came up to me at the service counter and said his manager had agreed to swap out my power supply at no charge. I didn't ask for this and was amazed and happy that they would even offer. The service folks swapped out the power supply quickly and I am not writing this review on my newly quiet computer.



When so few retailers care anymore, it's wonderful to find one that really does. Thank you Fry's..............

Dropped it early evening Saturday, picked up Monday evening ( we thought it would be ready Sunday but it took longer), everything is working well.

Fry's in Wilsonville is like most of their larger stores - pretty overwhelming selection of computers, software, appliances and electronic gadgets/equipment.
If you're looking for low-end but serviceable laptop, desktop or appliance, this is the best destination I've found in the state. Their strength of vast selection can work against the consumer, though; the store is so large it is only reasonably easy to navigate, and, although the staff's attitude is helpful, there are not enough of them to help on crowded weekends (think and quot;nearly-Costco crowdsand quot;) and their opinions on equipment vary a lot by individual, often disagreeing with Consumer Reports or CNET reviews. Best method I've found to use the store: Do your homework upfront regarding brand names and specifications, then go to Fry's to get the best price. If you're rushed, talk to more than one salesperson (the individual salespeople often don't like this) and consider several opinions.
Their repair shop is knowledgable, thoughtful, but opinionated. Without asking, they will upload the free versions of anti-virus software and anti-malware products. If you can't specify technically what you want, to be fair, they are left to their own guesses when repairing your pc or laptop, and actually, everything they've done (including the uploads) were what I would have done if I had read more on the subject.
When in doubt, especially if they have an on-sale but little-known brand, I recommend (only in this one instance) you buy their warranty - but remember you have to deliver your purchase to the shop. One other recommendation - follow their sales ads and wait for your product to come up, then go early on the Friday or Saturday when they start the sale - they run out of sale items!
Overall, Fry's beats Costco by a lot on selection, Wal-Mart and big box stores on both price (not so much but noticeable) and selection (very noticeable), and loses to all of them on store organization. Overall their salespeople are very helpful but once in awhile you can hear someone talking over their head. If I am in the Portland area usually I can my considerable computer needs filled for the best price there, and sometimes break my rule and don't check the competitors - so far I haven't been stung!

Bought some computer upgrade parts

The actual purchase went fine though I have had problems with the actual system. I am just not happy with the customer service at the HP end of it. It was either in India or Pakistan and some of them were easier to understand than others, but I spent at least sixty hours trying to get the computer fixed.

The phone I purchased was very nice. It's got just about anything you could want. I haven't had any problems with it and it's great product. The service we received when we were shopping at Fry's was great, they were very helpful.

After exhausting all avenues with the manufacturer, they finally replaced it with a new, very nice computer, which I appreciated very much. But the time, hours each time I called and talked to tech support while they walked me through the process of trying to fix the computer and effort I spent was amazing. Beware of "good deals" at Fry's!

SALES PEOPLE REALLY DON'T KNOW THAT MUCH ABOUT THE ITEMS THEY ARE SELLING, BUT THE STEREO I ENDED UP BUYING IS A REALLY GOOD ONE, GREAT PRICES TOO, JUST A LITTLE BIT OF A DRIVE BUT WORTH IT.

THEY SOLD US THIS KIND OF MEMORY THAT WAS SUPPOSED TO WORK WITH OUR COMPUTER. THEY ASSURED US THAT IT WOULD BE COMPATIBLE, BUT IT WASN'T SO WE HAD TO TAKE IT BACK.

WE PURCHASED A BIG SCREEN TV FROM FRYS. THEY WERE VERY HELPFUL WITH THE SELECTION, NO PRESSURE SALES. THEY DELIVERED THE TV, MOVED IT IN, SET UP EVERYTHING AND SHOWED US HOW TO WORK IT.
