In the end I believe a root problem was the dad (Don), with whom we made the sale and agreement, made promises he never told the son (Scott). I had a few very specific concerns/desires that Don and I discussed ahead of time. We wrote them down and initialed them. Amazingly, he also put them on the final invoice as if they'd been done! In fact they were not. And when Scott saw the final invoice at the end of the project he said he'd have approached the job differently and charged more. My expectations: In the end, the house would be yellow, not blue. There was evidence of mold under the eaves, I asked that it be bleached during prep. We had put on a new roof last year, I asked for specific measures to protect it. There was on area on the front deck where the siding had wax on it from some candles. I asked it be cleaned. Three sides of the house are T1-11, Don agreed to my request that although they intended to use a sprayer for applying paint, that the grooves would actually be actually brushed. It was clear that they intended to paint over the mold. The mold resistant paint was supposed to take care of it. I had to ask and watch for it to be cleaned. They sponged it off but did not use bleach. They did nothing extra to protect the roof and it did sustain minor damage. No extra effort was taken to clean the wax. The primer was supposed to take care of it. At the end, when they thought they were done; There were many spots that were still blue! This seemed a no brainer to me. The grooves had not been brushed; Don said he meant only as needed. There was paint spilled on the deck and not cleaned. The deck was damaged in two places, but Don said the deck was substandard and should be torn down anyway so he wouldn't do anything. In the middle of things I wrote a pretty "hot" letter which didn't probably help, but it had become clear to me that they had zero intention of doing anything that we'd agreed on (in writing!). When I finally demanded that at LEAST the whole house be yellow (seems reasonable?), Don said he had done what was "industry standard" and threatened to sue me if I didn't pay up. Scott was to pay one more visit, which he did, and I must say Scott I think really did try hard. But as I said before, when my wife at that point showed him the invoice with specifications from Don, it was clear he'd never seen it. You can see pictures if you like.

The work was sub-par. He put the faucet too far back on the sink and it is hard to wash your hands. It was impossible to tell them how we wanted the granite laid. He had to lower the dishwasher because of this. They had difficulty installing the stove. It was a very sloppy job. Some things are not functional and I have tried to contact them but I cannot get them. They left putty everywhere. They scratched our new sink. They had a general disregard for any suggestion that we had.

DON WENLUND CAME OUT TO GIVE ME A QUOTE AND HIS SON SCOTT CAME OUT AND DID THE ACTUAL WORK. (HIS MOM ANSWERS THE PHONES).
