They did a very nice job. The end result was excellent, and the follow up afterwards was fantastic. They were meticulous and quick.

Both jobs went perfect. His crew were super clean and left no trash on the job.
The stair railings look top notch.
The paint looks great.
I did not get other local bids and may have found someone cheaper, but why bother
when you know the job gets done on time and there are no excuses for extras.
I will continue to use him on all my jobs.

Overall the work went well but the two areas that I am not satisfied with are the texturing that was done in the master bath. The work was inconsistent - in some places there is a lot of texture and in others, not much. It just doesn't look very professional. The other problem is the guest bath on the main floor. This job was painting over wallpaper. The seams on the wallpaper show especially on the wall one faces as they enter the room.

The master bath I did not notice when Kirk came to inspect. The guest bath was evident to Kirk but my understanding was that they could not have done anything to fix it. I wish I had been warned about this possibility beforehand and I would have asked for texturing on the walls.

In any case, most of the work was done well and I appreciated the work. I am not sure if I'd hire this contractor again.

First of all, the owner himself, Kirk Harbeck, came, to make the initial contact. (I make this distinction because it is not always the owner who makes the time to make this important initial contact.) We discussed my needs/goals, and my financial concerns; and he did the measuring.

Within three days, I had estimate in hand. Because of our initial conversation (and the fact I also had two other estimates in hand), I knew the estimate was reasonable.

Work proceeded as planned - no surprises concerning working hours, etc. - and was completely finished by the afternoon of the fifth day.

Along the way: One painter did most of the painting, and he did an exacting and beautiful job; e.g., where the ceiling and wall meet, there is a distinctive straight line.

I appreciated the painter's input (based on umpteen painting jobs) regarding my misgivings concerning a particular color. I'm glad I listened to what his experience had taught him, and I'm glad his employer gave him the freedom to share this with me.

The finished work is beautiful. I am happy!

Initially, project went well. The demo was good. One of the things we hired this company for was reinforcing the floor under the tub as we were putting in a new one that was deeper. He subbed this out. We were not told that the floor under the tub was 1/2 inch off level until the tub was in. This should have been corrected and was not able to be corrected without a total tearout, which we chose not to do. When we had other issues specifically related to this company's work, the owner refused to take responsibility for them and informed us that he was not the contractor. Apparently, that meant he wasn't responsible for his work! It's been a while, so I can't remember exactly what all the other issues were, other than things like sanding drywall with the bathroom door open until we stopped them. Rather than try to work it out, he took himself off the job. We had to have the next contractor do a lot of repair work after them, which he did reimburse us for. I have no idea what kind of work this company does in the painting department, but I would absolutely steer clear of them for anything other than painting.
Response from ECOARTISAN PAINTING & RENOVATIONS
"This was a job where the homeowner was trying to act as the general contractor on her bathroom remodel. She had originally hired us to tear out a wall, make a floor ready for a plumbing contractor to install a bathtub, and then paint after the plumbing work was done. She changed her mind repeatedly during the process, gave the plumbing contractor and me conflicting information, and to make things even more difficult, had to leave every day to go to work. She would give her stay-at-home husband instructions to give us. I was getting increasingly nervous about the communications breakdowns that were occurring, so I politely told her that this was not the way we work and that I would prefer to stop at a good finishing point and get paid for the work we had done and she could hire another contractor. She agreed to this and we agreed to a fair price which she paid us. One thing I’ve learned is that there are some jobs we should not take. I think it is in our best interests and our customers’ best interests to determine if we are a good fit as far as personalities, expectations and communication styles. We work very hard to keep the excellent reputation we’ve built up and when I send out a proposal I include multiple references and really make it possible for potential customers to see the quality of our finished jobs and talk to our previous customers to see how we are to work with."

An especially soggy Oregon spring kept this project from moving forward for an extra two months. Kirk always stayed in touch either by phone or in person. He was waiting for a window of good dry weather which would hold for at least a week or more before beginning the painting. The first day of painting was Tuesday, June 22, 2010. Kirk brought his two painters, Steve and Chad and introduced me to them. He told me what they would be doing over the next few days. They painted by brush and roller a "film" type product over all the windows, so that they could be sprayed. They then taped either paper or plastic on the house siding surrounding the windows so that the spray would only be on the windows themselves. They covered everything that had the potential of being accidentally sprayed, including plants, hand rails, faucets, light fixtures, etc. The second and third days, they sprayed the all of the windows, with two coats of paint. As they moved around the outside of the house, Kirk was constantly coming inside and opening the already sprayed windows, moving the sashes up and down or moving the French windows out to varying degrees, all to make certain that none of the windows were painted shut. On the fourth day of work, which was Friday, June 25, Steve and Chad spent the day removing the "film" from the glass on the windows. It was quite clever , the way that the film coating worked, in that they cut around the edges of each pane of glass, and peeled away the coating, which came off like a piece of plastic wrap. It left the paint nicely covered right up to the edge of the window panes, and had the added bonus of leaving every window spotlessly clean, as the film attached itself to any dirt that was on the glass. This was an incredible amount of work, as my two French windows across the front of the house have 24 panes of glass each! And there is no window in my house without at least 6 panes of glass in it. They finished this work and cleaned everything up (which they did every day), and allowed me to have windows to look out of again for the week-end. On Monday, June 28th, they arrived early (8:00am was a late start to these guys!), and began covering all the windows and everything else, in preparation of spraying the body of the house and garages. They had previously painted the bottom 12 inches or so of every side of the house and garages, so their spraying would stop short of the foundation (or the ground). They finished the first and second coats of spraying on Monday. On Tuesday, they followed up with brush painting all the remaining areas, such as the gable ends, gutters, soffits, trim, etc. and they painted the accent color on the entry doors. This project used three paint colors - the body color, the window and trim color, and the accent color for the doors. They came back on Wednesday, June 30th, to spot paint anything they missed (and I could not believe the attention to detail exhibited by Steve and Chad - they are amazing!!). They collected their ladders and left me with plenty of extra cans of paint carefully labeled; they went around and picked up any tiny scraps of paper or tape - they left the premises spotless. These very professional painters left me with a brand new house. I cannot stop looking at my beautiful house. This house was in bad need of a face lift - it hadn't been painted in decades and it looked it. The quality of workmanship of the terrific team at EcoArtisan Painting made all the difference to my old house. My neighbors have all stopped by to "ooh and awe" and I invited Kirk to put one of his "promo" signs out in front of my house. They should be very proud of the caliber of work that they produce. They obviously take pride in doing an outstanding job and it shows. Thank you Kirk, Steve and Chad!! I am so happy with the outcome of this project. I would highly recommend Kirk Harbeck and his team of magnificent painters at EcoArtisan Painting. They're the best!!

It is lovely and definitely a big before and after. The price we paid was very reasonable and was approximately $600. The fire place we had was from the 70’s, deep mortar joints, horrible marble and a deep piece of cherry wood for the mantle. It also had a worn out brass fireplace front. We had him do Venetian plaster which is a burnt orange color for our 5 feet fireplace. It is just warm and beautiful.

A wonderful experience and I love the look and feel of the rooms. Kirk Harbeck and his crew did an incredible job and seemed to have "majored" in customer service. I have never felt so safe and secure with strangers in my house....secure enough to go to work. I would highly recommend this company, interior AND exterior work. I will schedule more rooms later on this year.

An incredible experience. An incredible team. I made an appointment with owner, Kirk Harbeck, for an estimate proposal. He arrived exactly on time, explained the preparation procedures which included power washing the entire house. He decided, at no extra charge, to power wash my backyard deck. Watching the weather report the actual painting would begin on Wednesday, April 22. His team arrived exactly on time and went right to work preparing the house. (Covering all windows, outside faucets, front door, trees and shrubs, aggregate walkways and the roof) The entire house was finished in 3 1/2 days. No remnants of paint spray and they cleaned up each day. Because of the exterior job I asked about interior painting. Kirk gave me another estimate and time schedule for the rooms I wish painted. That job, too, is complete and I will write another report on "interior" painting

Kirk cam out promptly to estimate, was always in touch by cell phone. They cleaned up, kept the work space neat. Kirk did a good job matching our existing paints and stains (house is 15 years old).

Kirk responded within a few days to the referral made through a colleague of his. He arranged immediate appointments that he was on time for. He came over discussed paint, plans and took measurements. Within a few days he had an estimate with contract emailed to me. The contract was signed and he began and completed the project within agreed upon time frames. Kirk was always reliable and could be counted on to be honest, informative if something needed readjustment, and responsible. He repaired minor damage to an outlet and made sure ever thing was cleaned up after his day and completed the work to both his as well as our perfection. He was very conscious of our family's needs and started and completed his day with good work ethics. His work was exceptional and I will definitely welcome Kirk back into my home for additional painting projects. My company continually remarks on the excellent job done. I am proud of his work and recommend him highly.
