In early June 2023, I hired D & J’s Custom Decking to repair some rotting sections of my deck roof. They were easy to work with, and I was satisfied with the work. The following week it rained. The roof now leaked across the entire part of the roof they had repaired. I called David about the problem, and he told me he would repair the issue, possibly that week. That was the last time I heard from David. I called both his office and his cell phone over ten times. After a month I sent him a certified letter notifying him I planned to file a complaint with the state licensing board if he did not return to complete the project. He signed for the letter. I still have not heard from him.

If I could give a rating higher than "A" I would. Dave was a true consultant, which is so hard to find. He would offer suggestions and listen to our requests, giving us his opinion on how to make our dreams a reality. All his guys were PRO! Showed up when they said they would, finished when they said they would, open to ideas and alterations. Best contractor experience ever. Please message me for pictures or additional info.

D J did the design that was innovative and excellent. He thought of things we wouldn?t have thought of. He opened up the entire front of the house. In fact, it?s so attractive that people stop while driving by and comment on it and ask for his name. We are kind of up from the street a little bit and so there are steps that go back and forth down to the street. It has got a platform, a little bench on it and it has a flame mahogany color. It?s quite attractive as well. In fact, that?s the third deck he has done for us. We have one on the side of the house and one at the back of the house as well. So, this is our third experience with him. We are having the finish applied to it right now since it is two years old. The guy who is doing it said that he was really stunned with how beautiful it was when he was working for my neighbor. It?s a very dramatic change in the front of our house. We have a northwest contemporary that is about 30 years old and it has very closed front that was stylish then. So, this has changed it dramatically. The mahogany wood is also beautiful. It also has wood cap railing. So, it?s really stunning to look at and D J is excellent. He is here in West Linn as well.

Very well, on the whole. I was not happy with the initial approach to attaching the skirts (used screws) so they re-did with stainless steel finishing nails. Estimate was right on the money, and the consulting I got in discussing the project indicated a level of experience that was WAY ahead of the other three companies I talked to.

Pros. Generally good workmanship and quality materials. One issue with new ledger over downstairs window, remedied to our satisfaction. Little "collateral damage" to walls, landscaping, other areas of property. Cost for final product. We had three quotes; cedar, mahogany and composite. The mahogany quote was solidly in the middle, but looks and feels better than either alternative. Cons. Communication. After the initial sales/contract/commencement phase, we were pretty much in the dark most of the way. Took way too long. A solid month (on an easy site and NO marginal weather days) for this size project seemed excessive. Although we paid extra to have this job permitted and plans drawn and submitted, one element of the deck (upper privacy panel) was placed off-spec, by two feet. Contractor did offer to remedy, but we believed the potential for damage outweighed the difference in appearance.

David was prompt in meeting with us to discuss plans and we also met at his office, where he told us in detail about the different types of deck materials. The design of the decks (his ideas and our thoughts combined) is exactly what we wanted. The crew was professional, friendly, and thoughtful (asked if we wanted to imprint our kids' hands in the cement;very nice!). We absolutely love our new decks and have gotten so many compliments on them. They're absolutely beautiful.

Dave was friendly, available, and very willing to listen to our input in developing a plan. The work crew was on time, courteous, hardworking, and kept the the work site clean. We are extremely pleased with both the beautiful craftsmanship of the deck and first rate construction of the foundation beneath it. We found the project very reasonably priced and would recommend this company without hesitation. We plan to have them replace another deck next year.

I THINK THEY DID A FANTASTIC JOB. THEY WERE VERY PROFESSIONAL, VERY NEAT, AND VERY DETAIL ORIENTED. THEY DIDN'T LEAVE THINGS LYING AROUND. THEY KEPT A NEAT WORK SITE. THEY WERE ALWAYS OUT ON TIME. THEY DID WHAT THEY SAID THEY WERE GOING TO BE DOING, WHEN THEY SAID THEY WERE GOING TO DO IT.
