Once we became serious about this project we searched both Angie's list, and a listing of local contractors. We ended up with five interested bidders. Four were from contacts we made through Angie's list, and one was a local contractor that built a few houses near us. After receiving bids, we settled on Catalyst Construction (found on Angie's list). Catalyst Construction hired Gordon Klobas to complete the demolition of the bearing wall, all the framing, window installation, and siding. The initial estimate was our project would take four to five months, and I'm happy to report, it only took a little over four months. The work seemed to be paced very well. We really didn't have any significant gaps or lags in work. Once the project began, it moved along at a very good pace. We contracted to have most everything done with the exception of the surround sound system and painting (those projects we completed ourselves). I have to say overall, this was the smoothest construction project we've ever been through. Gordon is very experienced and his work product was excellent. We are very pleased with how everything turned out. The project finished within 5% of our initial budget, and most of that additional expense had to do with extras we added, and some conditions our previous house plans failed to describe. Communication was very good on this project. We are very happy with the overall experience of this project, and are very happy with the end result. We would be happy to have Gordon complete a future project, and would recommend him to anyone completing a similar project.
Description of Work: Gordon Klobas worked as a subcontractor to Catalyst Construction who we hired as the general contractor. Amount above was for the total job, since the subcontract cost was not detailed in the bid. Gordon Klobas completed the demo work required for the remodel, the framing, window installation, and siding of the new addition. Here is a description of our project: 20' x 30' two story addition and complete kitchen remodel. Lower story of addition included a new living room, and upper story included a master bedroom with vaulted ceiling. This project required the removal of a 30' bearing wall, and installation of a large support beam in order to provide a clear span in the new living room. The kitchen remodel included removal of old kitchen cabinets and appliances. New kitchen was built to roughly twice the size of the old kitchen and included installation of new cherry wood cabinets, granite counter tops, tile flooring, tile back-splash and new appliances. We also had a new window cut and installed in another living room.
