we had used Mountainwood Homes 2 years ago to do a bathroom model. recently a pipe leaked through the ceiling from the bathroom above into the bathroom below. when we called them (Robert, the owner) , they were very responsive, even on a weekend night as he called right back. they organized plumbers and dry wall specialists immediately and the whole job including painting was done in about 1 week. The service was fantastic and the job was clean and efficient and was worked around our schedules. many thanks to their wonderful team, including David the project manager.

Great experience with Mountainwood Homes. Our remodel was completed on time, on budget, and quality was on point. Our project manager, Chad, was a pleasure to work with and the quality of the subcontractors was consistently impressive. Specific work was a complete gutting of the kitchen with all surfaces/cabinets replaced. Appliances were a mix of new and old and range was moved to opposite wall. We'll need a new upstairs bathroom/walk-iin closet space at some point and would confidently use Mountainwood for that project and others in the future.

Initial contact with the estimator and product designer was excellent and very professional. Kudos to Ivan and Jean! Execution of the work with Jim, the project manager, was where things fell apart. I'm not sure if the PM was involved with too many other projects or just didn't know how to coordinate a project but multiple problems occurred. Details of decisions made with the designer were not followed up on by the PM and passed on to the suppliers/subcontractors. The company uses Buildtrend software to document all design decisions but apparently the PM didn't check it. When asked about it he said,"I don't have time to look at that". Little communication from the PM resulted in subcontractors not showing up when scheduled, showing up with no notice, or all showing at the same time. When they did show up they seemed confused about what they were supposed to do. Since there was no Mountainwood supervision present their coordination became our problem to make sure the correct information had been passed on to them. Out of sequence work scheduling and a lack of information flow caused difficulty for the subcontractors and a substantial amount of rework. The project took about 3 weeks longer than scheduled. I could go on and on about the problems and our growing frustration. In my opinion the bottom line is this; the company could have a class act if they had better quality control and follow up of their field employees that actually perform the work and interface with the customer. The final product was a good one but it didn't have to be so frustrating to get there. I would not use them again due to these reasons.

Planning:
We had almost every aspect of what we wanted on Houzz, and the planner didn't review this. The quote ended up being off by $5,000 and we had to remove a planned family room fireplace remodel from remodel.

Drawings of the cabinets and layouts were not provided until a week prior to construction start date. We didn't know what our cabinet package came with or if we were going with drawers or cupboards. The biggest surprise was that we thought our cabinets went all the way to the ceiling - and they did not.
Designers:
Were supposed to contact us and set up all appliance, stone and lighting dates within a 2 week window, and that did not happen. I had to call to confirm the counter top appointment, and the lighting and sink had to be done on-line by the owner after the appointment at the store.
Construction:
We were not notified that our calendar had been set up and that we would only have one user ID for 2 people for the portal service.
Appliances arrived the first week of construction consuming an entire bay in the garage. This wasn't ever communicated by any Mountainwood employees at any time nor through their portal service.
Paint: Cabinets were painted 3X. The first time and then touched up a second time after the granite was installed on the island, and again a 3rd time after the cleaning crew came through for a final clean up. The paint still has an adherence problem. Mountainwood Homes was notified on May 28th, has seen the fading and chipping on all the cabinets and has not provided a root cause or resolution plan.
Response from Mountainwood Homes
"Thank you for your feedback. While we were aware of the need to address the paint, we appreciate you letting us know about the other concerns that did not meet your expectations on your kitchen remodeling project. We look forward to coming up with a resolution on the painting at our meeting scheduled for today at your home with the paint representative. We value your time in making us aware of things we can improve upon. It is our company philosophy to make continual improvements to our proven processes. We are striving to build clients for life and apologize that we did not meet these expectations."

From the initial sales process, through design choices and all of the work, all Mountainwood Homes people (Robert, Heather, Jean, Steve and all workmen) truly listened to us and worked collaboratively with us on all choices and details. Both Heather and Jean were tremendous to work with on the design – their suggestions reflected clear understanding of our tastes and preferences (from the rest of our house and talking with us) and we are delighted with all design choices and the result. If anything, the result is better than our initial dreams of the perfect master bathroom! The first step of the project was to protect our home and we were pleasantly surprised at how completely they did so, including not just covering stairs and flooring into the bathroom, but also covering ALL stair rails and walls and floor from the front door and the garage on the lowest level, up to the bathroom, which was on the top level of our 3-story row home! Workmen were prompt, professional, skilled and personable. Steve, the project manager, was on top of scheduling, notification to us of any changes, and regular monitoring of the workmen and progress. He responded promptly to every request or question from us. Tile work was the most critical skill, and Alex their “tile guy” was awesome, meticulous in his work, fun to interact with and extremely helpful in suggestions about specific tile layout and options. Final clean up was very well done, and done according to our timing needs. This even included a hardworking housekeeper who did a thorough job of final cleanup – floors, baseboards, plantation shutters, etc. To us, this was service “above and beyond”. We enthusiastically give this recommendation for Mountainwood homes as the best contractor we've ever worked with.

Very impressed with all areas of the kitchen remodel. It turned out great!
They have designers that were extremely helpful in picking out fixtures, colors and designing the project.
The supervisor was on top of everything. Sub contractors were well managed. People showed up on time, did what they were supposed to do and cleaned up when they were done.
Everyone was a pleasure to work with.
