"102 positive reviews, and then this? This customer requested a free estimate on freight damage, citing my advertising of free estimates. However, he was NOT requesting an estimate in good faith or in the spirit of competition. He was requesting it to collect money from his insurance company, with no intention of having the furniture repaired. He wished for me to visit his home, inspect the furniture, and write up a written estimate on his letterhead. For free. This was not an estimate, it was a service, for which I told him I would charge a fee. But, on the off chance that he intended to ultimately have me perform the repairs, I told him that I would reimburse the fee at that time. So the estimate WOULD in fact be free if he truly intended to have the repairs done. This protected me and it protected him, if he was legitimate. But he wasn't legitimate. If he actually intended to get the work done he would have accepted my terms because he would have had the fee reimbursed to him. This is all in my email to him which he reproduced in his review. (See above.) So, he was angry that he got caught in his game. And for this I got an "F" posted on Angie's List. Frustrating."
"After more than 90 straight A reviews, I was a bit perplexed by this customer's straight B review. Then I realized she had given me a B on punctuality. She brought her chair to my shop, and picked it up--I never even had an appointment to visit her. So "punctuality" could not have been an issue. Evidently, as a matter of principal, she does not ever give A's, and simply awards B's to all categories without reading them. Also, just for the record, repairing the crack in her chair was $35, not $80. I also touched up various flaws for $45, thus a total bill of $80 (her B grade on price further suggests that her B's are simply automatic.) Unfortunate reasons to have a now-blemished record."
I couldn't be more pleased, as the blemish has all but disappeared!
Ryan is something of an artist and a perfectionist with this kind of restorative work, would use him anytime for this kind of work.
Thanks!
"The charge of $800 need clarification. I typically charge far less than $800 to refinish a dining room table top. However, this case was exceptional in that it was a truly massive table, plus two leafs, and included pickup and delivery as well."
At first, Ryan quoted a cost of $180/chair, but when he discovered that the upholstered seat and back could be removed, he reduced the price to $150 each. We very much appreciated his cost-consciousness. He did a wonderful job of matching the finish of each chair to the finish of the other furniture in the room where it would be placed, based on samples we provided. Both chairs look great, and it's impossible to tell that they haven't always been the colors they currently are. We're very happy with the result and recommend him highly!
We were really pleased with Ryan's work. My husband had told me that one of the chairs could not be repaired, but Ryan did and it looks great - and now my husband admits he was wrong. :-) Ryan is very professional, he is easy to work with, he appears to be a master craftsman, and his prices are reasonable. Would definately use him again.
